we may not like it, but you're right. Getting a key for 2.55 is now considered a good deal and 2.66 has been adopted as the standard price
@ chris
We're still somewhat lucky as people do 2.55 + 1 weapon, but that won't last for long.
There are 7600+ keys in stock at the warehouse, for 2.5 ref ... hmm, just no.
If you can add me on steam and link me to all the people selling @ 2.5 ref.. I would gladly add them as I have a lot of metal. **I don't know how to use tf2wh, and I don't plan on to.
Thanks!
It's very hard to find keys @ 2.55 nowadays... 2.66 seems to be the new standard price, unfortunately.
It's not even possible to trade Refined Metal for Keys on Warehouse. Pointless to even quote that price. The Warehouse is always overstocked on Refined Metal. The only way to get credits is to sell other items to them and at their exchange rate on other items, the price of a key is most certainly not 2.5 ref.
Despite that, it's possible to buy some keys for 2.55 refined, but the vast majority of keys out there indeed sell at 2.66.
I'm voting against this because keys are a cornerstone of this economy and we should try to regulate their price somewhat.
People are only voting no(-) because they don't want the price to be 2.63 (approx), but the truth is, they have been being sold for 2.66 Ref for the past MONTHS, and on spreadsheet, it still said 2.44-2.55, but people still had luck selling for 2.66 Ref.
Voting yes or no really won't do anything, because the community will continue selling them for 2.66 Ref, and more.
There are people selling them for up to 2.88: http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/3247606
You don't have to convince me. I've personally sold hundreds of keys for 2.66 refined each. I could have sold thousands if I wanted to, but I have no use for that much Refined Metal.
Despite that, the price of keys is too important to raise without a general consensus. Too many people have their wealth invested in Refined Metal to raise it.
It's not too difficult to find keys for 2.4-2.5 if you don't use TF2O.
@ Haleton Sax
Please add me on Steam and direct me to those selling Keys for 2.4-2.5. I have a bunch of metal I can trade for keys.
@Chancellor Puddinghead
"I'm voting against this because keys are a cornerstone of this economy and we should try to regulate their price somewhat."
wtf, no. The market regulates their price through supply and demand. If you believe what you're saying, and want to keep key prices down, put your thousand keys up @ 2.55.
The OP is right. Halflife of a 2.55 trade is under 1 minute, usually snapped up by resellers who know they can sell them for a profit of .5 scrap quickly, or 1 scrap slowly.
The purpose of a pricelist is to inform truthfully on market conditions, not to deceive newbies or represent collective wishful thinking.
The accuracy of the pricelist is more important than any one person's personal fortunes.
I'm not happy that key prices went up, but I voted in favor of this change to the pricelist, because it has already happened in the market.

http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/2208168 buy 20 and price is 2.5
this was in the first page of my search, i am not surprised so many people downvoted this, it's still very easy to find keys at normal price. Everyone tries to profit off keys, and it's always been like this.
@ Brad Pitt
Did you bother seeing how many keys are in stock? 0
Also, if you notice.. the people that put up 1 key, are the ones selling only 1 key.
This Trade: http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/2208168 -- That guy's stock didn't change for the past week, if not longer.
I've been paying a little attention to this.
@ nak nak
Thanks, but these people still don't understand that the community determines the price, and the price is 2.66 Ref per key. People here think that whatever it's been placed at, is what they want it to be, not what it really is.
@Brad
Check the other side of the market too: http://www.tf2outpost.com/search/18388235
Here's what I got from the first page. All of these are OP donators and buying @2.55
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/3294559 has 515 ref
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/2759099 has 84 ref
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/2572557 has 14 ref
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/3341555 buying only 2
Brad, those trades on Outpost selling keys for 2.55 are out of stock most of the time and the ones that aren't have 1-3 keys at the most. Most people who buy keys want large quantities.
The only way to buy a large quantity of keys is to pay 2.66 refined each.
I think the price we set on this site should reflect the bare minimum price someone has to pay to get any key, so you should reject this suggestion for now. We should have a special rule regarding key price where the price on this site should always be 1 scrap below what most people pay for them.
next keys will be worth 3ref.....
Since when are prices set reflect the bare minimum... people still buy keys @ 2.33-2.44 Ref, but those people ONLY exist in servers + they only sell 1 key tops.
If I'm not mistaken, the price is reflected on what the community sells an item for, not what the bare minimum is. Listing an item below what it's worth won't do anything, because it won't change.
These spreadsheet's are set for people who don't know prices, and by this way.. they think a key is 2.55 Ref, when really... they will have almost no chance in buying them at that price.
This is manipulation.
Voting up even though it's a losing battle. I've sold around 10 keys for 2.66 the last couple weeks with people still hitting me up. Even a lot of people who buy keys for 2.44 turn around and sell them for 2.66 on the outpost, even in the same trade.
I buy keys for 2.33ref in tf2 for 6month.... (today 10keys for 23.33ref)
@ Burglar
And exactly how many people buy keys @ 2.44? Then how many people sell to them? 1 in maybe every few thousand people, if not more.
People just buy for 2.66 when they are desperate.. and that's what it has come to. Barely anyone can now make profit off keys. People are starting to sell for 2.77 and 2.88 Ref per key.
@ korithov ·
Please add me and show me your inventory history cause I don't believe you one bit. Maybe 6 months ago, if I'm not mistaken, keys were 2 ref or so.. maybe a little more or less. (I wasn't playing nor did I have any interest in Tf2 at the time, so I don't know).
Today, even if you did... you got lucky, cause it won't happen again, unless you have a personal seller.. that gets those keys for damn cheap and could still make profit by selling them for 2 ref each.
iz good deal ya
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/3358813 25 in stock 2.55 ref each (10+ keys)
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/2279421 7 in stock 2.55 ref each
When keys went from 2.5 to 2.55 the votes were much more in favour than this one. I will have to close it for now, the people have spoken.
