I wouldn't say there needs to be a difference between genuine and nongenuine, not when genuines are in large quantities on an unwanted hat. Look at the atomic accolade for the most recent extreme example. I can't say I've dealt with the PvZ genuines recently enough to say whether they are in that category, but if you think it sells no differently than regular ones, don't let the green text stop you.
