Actually was on "Achievement Idle Mayhem" (Some reason on trade server search box) and I joined in the last slot. Thought it was a trade server, said "Buying keys for less than 3 ref." Some guy asked later, "Was someone here buying keys?" and I said yes. he asked for 2.88 for his keys. I told him I was saving metal for buds (which I am, I don't lie for profit.). He said that he'd give me one scrap less, 'cause it wouldn't make a difference. Real nice guy.

Because I do not have proof of my past trades, but my backpack is proof of my current trades of selling keys at 3.11 then I will say this. Today I sold a bud for 28 keys, I put those up for trade 3 hours ago and in that time I have had approximately 7 people adding me for a purchase of keys. The first few were just a couple, say 1 or 2 at a time, but my last trader (Within half an hour of posting the trade) added me to buy 15, asking for a discount but I said that I had already sold 6 with no problem. For the proof of these trades, it is in my backpack with 9 keys left, and 66.77 refined.
Now that makes up 30 keys total doesn't it? That's because i've had 2 people add me today to sell 1 key each for 3 refined.
While we all hate it, keys can definitely be bought and sold for 3-3.11 so i'm going to have to upvote

There is a ton of trading done on other servers as well? Granted most takes place but there are ALLOT of servers that trading occurs on. So if your saying that your sample from 4 servers is more than the entire TF2 community at one time?????
It's impossible to track any trade, if you're not Valve.
The method employed is extrapolation. It can't be very precise but it's atm the best we can do.
So what is the point for you, when keys stop inflating? Because under the logic you are going by, keys WILL be equal to buds in price, what that price is, idk, but by your logic it will happen.
No, buds will stay within the range of 26-28 because buds are a limited source. Keys are being pumped into the Mannconomy almost every second. Keys will always be rising. Never, ever has keys and buds been proportional.

2.66 ref is already impossible with out idling accounts or incredible luck to get multiple hats. If it's that crazy to you to have to pay 3 ref per key, idle another account... oh wait, that's only going to further drive up the cost of keys as refined becomes piss common.
Quick metal: Sell Winter crates.
Also: Idle accounts/real money. However this is where the TF2 economy comes in and generally children aren't allowed to use these methods so it's not an option for many TF2 players.

To those who are complaining about this based on arguments such as "The price of keys is too damn high!" do you have any evidence that this isn't happening? Also, stop blaming this website for increasing the price of keys in metal.
Its happening because the website rises the prices, and then we look to the outpost of all places for price voting evidence, y'know, that place that will take whatever the actually price is, and then rise it by 1 or 2 scrap. Its infinite inflation with no real way to stop it unless the admins decline it, which I doubt they will ever decline a vote to raise the price of keys because they haven't shown any sign of hesitation in the past to accept them.

I don't sell keys for profit at all. I'm not happy that the price is going up whatsoever, but unlike most of the other buyers around here, I'm willing to admit that it's happening.
you know key sellers shouldn't be supporting the inflation either right? it really hurts their business when people are less likely to pay for the asking price.
It's not a matter of supporting or not supporting prices going up. It's a matter of recognizing that there is incredibly high demand for keys with Nice/Naughty Winter crates already dropping. Prices going up now are to be expected. We are likely to see them drop back down to 3 ref after the event though.
I don't see how the new crates increase old key demand. But tf2 traders are well tf2 traders...lol
People trade 2 regular keys for 1 specialty key. This increases demand for regular keys. People who are unable/unwilling to buy the special keys from the shop will be willing to pay more refined to get their hands on regular keys guaranteed to convert (or wait directly to buy the special keys for refined).

Nobody wants to pay 3.11 refined, just like nobody wants to wake up in the morning to go to work. They still do it if they really want keys. 3 Refined is an easy sell now, you'll get rid of all your keys at a decent rate. 2.88 is lightning fast, 10 people will add you in less than 30 seconds. I don't have sufficient evidence other than my personal experience, so I'm going to pass on voting at this time.

Nope. Monetary value of keys is not that big a factor in key price. With more people buying for higher prices, people are feeling safer buying for higher because they know if they don't profit they can always sell keys to another person for the same price they paid.

Guy has 200+ keys in BP, hoarders are pushing this, I was selling for 2.88, that turned impossible. No even at 3 Ref seems impossible. I just had a guy add me to sell me 15 keys, in mid trade he stops and says, wait i want 3.22. told him to fuck off. He put a trade up a few min later for 3.33.

This is really bad, but I have to upvote this one. I really would like to see the price drop, but it's still increasing. I had 8 keys, sold them all in one server to 2 different people for 3.11 and 3.11 and some weapons. I can even add a screenshot for proof.

Hmhm, selling them for 3 ref was very easy. I tried to sell a few for 3.22 today and had no luck. Therefore I would be careful. But this is maybe just me.
3 refined in an instant sold out. I looked for many pages and I couldn't find a single one with stock left.
3.11, on the other hand, never sells. I saw hundreds upon hundreds of keys unsold at 3.11. It's weirdest thing that ever happened to keys.

As much as I hate to admit it, I put a key up for sale for 3.11 and immediately got at least two adds, and ended up selling it for 3.22. May be a fluke because I don't sell keys regularly but thought it was interesting...
I do think this new price is okay, given what I am currently finding in my trades.
I don't usually engage in skepticism, but I can't trust the TF2 economy, especially after the sudden hype for series 30 crate items, which have been slowly creeping back down. I think the keys will continue to rise, and then reach a catastrophic loss of interest, where they will go back down to 2.77. People are only into what is going up, but eventually, like the housing market, there comes a time when stuff is so inflated that nobody can and/or wants to buy it.
That's exactly what i think. As for myself, i've already lost all interest in buying keys. I've never bought keys for more than 2.5 ref, and i never will. I'd rather keep my refineds, since i have no interest in unboxing.

Of course people are gonna buy them quickly for the price they are, that doesn't mean you should put the price up. People only buy them at that price because that's the price that's been voted for. People could vote them to 10 ref and if everyone asked for 10 ref, they'd go for 10 ref. Anyway they should be going down now the Market is up and keys are much easier to get a hold of for less. I know there's people who are gonna disagree and post a load of "evidence" or whatever but the fact is TF2 is a sellers market so the price is going to keep raising as long as people are buying, it has to stop somewhere.

ok so i am looking through literally EVERY SINGLE FLIPPING TRADE on outpost and each one says Selling keys at 3.11-a rediculous price. There are more selling at 3.22-3.33 with fair success, 3.11 and under keys are sold out, I haven't even gotten a single buy today at 3.11.

Don't base prices on tf2outpost. The sellers highball, and the buyers lowball. Let's at least attempt to keep the price stable. People take the current backpack.tf price, and then they run with it. IMO, backpack.tf caused this mess in the first place.

As much as I do hate keys going up so fast, I do lots of people buying them for 3-3.11 ref. I've also bought some keys at 3.11 ref. Some people even bought them at 3.22 ref.
I sell keys at 2.33 when i sell them. Quit worrying about profit. Its a fucking game
