Yup. Basically all the very first hats are going to be retired and you wont even be able to uncrate unusuals of them anymore. Can't wait to see what people will price something like a bubbling Beanie at.

Can't wait to see what the 1 of 1 Knifestorm Fedora will go for. Or the 2 Misty Skulls of 'em. This is probably the only hat liked [EDIT] of the retired bunch.

All Halloween effects on the soon to be retired hats are going to skyrocket in price.

And there isn't GOING to be a shortage. In my opinion, the number of existing original 9 will mostly stay the same. Considering the number of them that were dropped/crafted and used in crafting (because they're not all that great of hats) pre-announcement, and the fact that after they're dropped/crafted and NOT used in crafting post-announcement, at the end of the day they're still shitty craft hats.

I don't think little demand and big supply is right. There are only a few pages selling these and the last time I heard these are high tier hat.

They're being retired because there's such vast amounts of them existing, so I don't think the supply is small.

This is really funny. No opinion, but I hope everyone realizes that this is what we call a "starter hat". These things outdate the economy. They are fossils,risen from the dust, and destined to return.

I'm not certain that 5 links are enough to reflect the market on a hat the most people just throw away, but it doesn't seem all that inaccurate. I'd do 1.33-1.66, but I'm just going to not vote on this at all.

The only ones that will see price change are unusuals. There's enough unique quality to give ever f2p his very own hat. And vintage will have the same stock either way.

at 56K I don't think there are a lot of these.

That's more than enough for everyone that wants one to have one. Check some other numbers of things pretty much everyone owns.

I was thinking the same. An unusual one of these will definitely cost a pretty penny in the future. Unique ones have been flooding backpacks since the dawn of the universe so the supply of these isn't going to be an issue. In fact, expect more of these to be bought, unboxed and dropped in the next 2 weeks.

I don't think the price of uniques will be affected for a really really long time, but unusuals may(may) increase slighty in a few months after discontinuing.

This is no different than uncraft hats. People rushed for those, and now no one gives a damn about them.

I mean generally. "Some" people will horde them thinking they will be valuable, but that is a long shot. Fez, tossel, milk man, etc are highly sought after hats. Here, we are talking about starter hats which are next to a gibus or alien swarm. There are a ton of them and the only thing going for them is the fact that they will be discontinued. So once again, they are like the starter uncraft hats. By the time they go up in value, TF3 will have came out. Unusual ones "might" go up, idk.

It's hilarious how people are scrambling over themselves to hoard up on V. versions of these hats when their supply has always been the same since the Mannconomy update. And you can technically get old hats if they were a drop in a particular crate series. No, the only thing that's completely retiring is the uncraftable version of these hats, but since they were given out en masse with mann co. store gifts... there's a lot of them.

Anyway, back on topic. I'd think it's too soon to start to raise the price since the update doesn't drop for two weeks, but people on OP will inflate it anyway so it may well be trading for this value (probably more) by tonight. I'm still gonna go neutral on this one.

Actually, the uncraftable versions have been retired since Nov. 30, when they updated the Mann co. store.

Long is actually right, just put a post up for selling one of these hats for 1.33 ref. Ive gotten 2 adds for my medic hat. People/Hoarders are freaking dumb, but they are easy to sell for 1.33 ref (for now at least).

I can tell you that all the hats from the news will sky-rocket in price... I has one Stash in my Store in OP and got added by about 7 people to buy it in a space of hours.

For now I will not sell it and see how market's react, but i can say this is a good price. One of the guys who add me, offer me 2 ref already.

More proof: Bots of scrap.tf normally would be stocked with these hats and now i can't see one in hours!

They dont use the search on outpost, but are knowing what NOW-PRICE is and BlaBlaBla around in price votings on items they even did not trade for hours, days or weeks.

seriously id give it at least a month or two before these need a raise in price, and a year from now i could understand but its too soon. valve announced it today, but we still have two weeks before they are no longer available, so the price suggestion is smart but unnecessary.

although solid proof is given i say downvote.

after some research on outpost i guess it would make sense to raise the price on all of these hats, im gonna keep my -1 vote but hey, it wouldnt be the first time we let drastic inflation on outpost that was caused by rush/panic (whatever you'd like to refer to it as) to determine the price of items.

I'm torn. I can see the evidence of people buying and selling them at the higher prices, but I can't rationalize it.

There are around 45-80,000 of each of these hats floating around, they are not scarce. It's not like all the existing stock's going to suddenly disappear once they retire.

I don't really see the relevance of him buying them after making the price suggestion - the suggestion is still up, price hasn't been changed yet. The only thing that'd be relevant would be if he bought them after the suggestion got accepted (or denied). For now, there's a conflict of interest, to use fancy words. Also, "given his BP value, I don't think he really cares about .22 per 5 hats (1.11 ref)" - remember when everyone hunted down the TF2Spreadsheet creator over 'price manipulation' that amounted to a couple keys? Yeah.

For what it's worth, I'm not voting for this, just wanted to give some counterpoints.

The one in the second link appears to have been sold for 1.33; that's the highest offer and it's not in his backpack anymore. Last link is level 1 i.e. special level, people always overpay for that.

Of course the community would jump on an opportunity like this, but if you notice, all the hats that were mentioned are among some of the highest owned (carouse stats.tf and see which hats stack up to others number wise) and now that these can't be bought or found anymore no one is ever going to craft them knowing that they won't be seen again. Classic example: Essential Accesories. I know they are worth alot more (round 6 keys) but you can't craft them and they are among the few promotional items that can't be crafted or found, yet the price has stayed at 6 keys for the last year.

IDK, I put my dirty Fancy Fedora up on outpost and got 1.33 in like 3 minutes. There's definitely a demand, but it's people sort of hoarding it anticipating a price growth. It's like the dirty update: people selling them overpriced due to an update for like a few weeks, frantic buyers running around overpaying, and then everything goes back to normal.

Heck, I saw someone on outpost offer a key for a dirty batter's.

I find it really funny that no one wanted these hats a few days ago, now the community is in a frenzy to stock up and make profit once they retire. I do believe the price will rise as these people try to stock up, but then it will drop because no one is buying them. The price wont go up because people actually want the hat, only because people want to stock up. cmon people be smart, these hats weren't popular before, and they wont be any more popular once they retire. Its like the bmoc hype all over again..
