Suggestion: Mann Co. Supply Crate Key at 3.33–3.44 ref

Not sure about this actually. With tf2 finance at 3.29, it pretty much perfectly fits our current range, and isn't even in this one. Personally, I prefer to ignore all trades on key suggestions and just look at tf2finance.

I read somewhere in the SPUF that some states/wherever have taxes on virtual goods, like keys in the Mann Co. Store, and it would actually be cheaper to buy it for $2.59 in the marketplace as the taxes don't apply to the marketplace. The more you know.

Another reason being that in europe, mann co. store sells keys are at 1.99€, which would be 2.65$ with current exchange rates.

I was able to find a few people selling for 2.88 before Christmas. Look where we are now.

It's a vicious cycle:

Price raised on pricelists -> people saying "oh it's rising again better raise my already high price to profit" -> everyone follows suit because prices really are rising -> price raised once again on pricelists ->start over

In regards to where keys may stabilize:

It does not matter all that much due to a lot of people's willingness to buy for the price that is now set. Therefore there is no problem buying for higher since you know that it will be easy to sell for what you paid for.

I never buy off retraders though, only from the ones that actually put new keys into the economy, and quite often i get greeted with "OMG you actually pay that much?!?". And every time there's a new price bump i feel it a couple of days later when I have to raise my price to get a steady supply

How is that proof that keys are worth 3.44? That's just a bunch of key resellers from outpost selling for above backpack.tf. They look at backpack.tf and add 1 or 2 scrap.

Here's a thought:

Of course you won't observe many selling trades at 3.22 on OP, because they get bought (and closed) in a mater of minutes or even seconds by those selling for 3.33 and above.

But if tf2finance calculates an average of 3.32, and there are clearly many selling on OP for 3.33 and above, doesn't that imply that there has to be trades below 3.33 to get to that (weighted) average? Maybe not so many on OP, but they sure have to be there. So your suggestion in effect says that the real time tracking of tf2finance is doing something completely wrong. I just can't believe that is the case.

And flooding this suggestion with 3.33 buying trades is no proof. I could surely show many 3.22 (and below) buying trades. If they are successful, THAT is the question here, besides proofing that there are no 3.22 selling trades (which of course is practically impossible to do). So no need for a price change in my book.

On a separate note, why don't we just stop suggesting prices for Keys and rely on the real time tracking of tf2finance. They have an interface to many sites (not just OP) and are able to observe so many more trades than any single human could, even the ones that get closed quickly...

One other thing is that many of the trades done for less, is traded by the very same people that wish to see an increse in price (the key resellers), so ofcourse you wont see them posting the proof here ;)

People STOP RAISING THE PRICES. The reason they get raised is primarily because people try to sell above average on outpost. When this price increases to match outpost, the people on outpost raise to make profit. WITH EITHER ONE RAISING THEY NEVER STOP. If you look at statistics, they started raising drastically around October 2012, just after backpack was created. STOP CHANGING PRICES SO THAT PRICES CAN STOP CHANGING!!!!!!

Sorry man I hate it too but this bp.tf is not a trading dictatorship that changes the prices of keys. Keys have already been raising and it doesn't matter what price bp.tf or spreadsheet puts because NOT all the community are spreadsheet or bp.tf traders. Keys inflate for other reasons than traders selling more than the spreadsheet. Also if this site doesn't reflect the market, then there is less legitimacy for bp.tf. Just bought one for 3.22; outpost trade only, 8 hours, full bump schedule, 19 views. Trader was willing to sell me two but I was lacking in metal.

I know it's only one trade, but I find that outpost-only in 8 hours is pretty damn fast. You want screenshots I'll give you screenshots.

Depends on the item and player traffic at the time (this particular 8 hour chunk was when all the Americans were doing weekend stuff/sleeping).

In my experience anything below 10 hours is fast for the tf2 economy, but that prolly doesn't apply to a highly-traded item like keys.

The point is people are willing to pay 3.33. If they are not sold whatever, in my opinions, the mere fact that so many people are asking 3.33 for a key is enough to override the 3.22 minimum value. Also, in my opinions, I would only need proof of sales when I am raising the maximum value.

I'm not sure you know how people being unsuccessful in buying at a price higher than current means that it is the minimum price. It only applies if raising the price. Your logic is flawed. If lowering the price, you prove that the seller is unsold below the current price.

People are asking for more cause they know it's gonna go up and they'll get more.

People are buying for more cause they know someone's gonna vote them up again in a couple of days so they're buying them before they're gonna cost more.

No, key suggestions do not absolutely raise the price of keys, THE COMMUNITY DOES. It's things like events the also contribute to the raising of keys and the current raising started in October with new hat effects, then the steam market beta also created a huge demand for keys.

If the pricelist price was stable, outpost asking prices would be stable, some would be above it and they'd maybe get it, but most would ask the recommended price.

You just said again that backpack.tf controls the prices of keys, and I'll refute with that the community is collectively raising prices because of demand. This demand comes from the steam market beta because people can not sell metal so they have to resort to the second type of currency, keys. Therefore keys are raising in price because of more demand than before.

Go ahead OP, explain how, if the average price of keys is 3.33, that 3.33 is the low end of the range. Your suggestion would imply an average of something between 3.37 and 3.40.

You can't, and you know you can't, so you're going to keep on avoiding the question. A significant amount of trades have to be happening at 3.22, an amount of trades, at this point in time, equal to the amount of trades at 3.44 Ref. I don't care how many 3.33 Ref trades there are. 3.33 Ref trades cannot change the average, if said average is at 3.33.

Easy Downvote. OP provides no proof that 3.22 is not happening, and completely avoids addressing how the average is 3.33 if a negligible amount of trades happen at 3.22 (like the new price would imply).

Trust me. Admins aren't going to run with this for 2 days. I never even look at OP links on key suggestions; there's a much more accurate tool available which completely disproves this suggestion. And we can't say, 'Let's raise the price, leave the suggestion up for ages and then the price might fit.' We go off what the price is now. Right now, the price is not 3.33 - 3.44.

Isn't tf2 finance an ongoing average? Looking at the graph, it seems like it takes all the trades in between one page update and another (usually less than an hour) and averages them. I wouldn't think that it would include old trades.

I guess it would depend. The one graph stops at midday Jan 11th, and the other stops at the current time. They've both been sticking close to 3.33 since the 9th though.

If the average wasn't sticking to 3.33 since the 9th you might have a point there. And by the looks of it, finance has updated to at least the middle of the day, Jan 11th. I don't know if you can tell time, but that was about eight or so hours before this suggestion was made.

Also, you seem to not know how averages work or something. 3.33 Ref trades can't change a 3.33 Ref average. So at this point, they're irrelevant in calculating it. This leaves 3.44 and 3.22 trades left to influence the average, barring extremes at 3.55 and 3.11. Go ahead and try to get a 3.33 average using 3.44 and 3.22.

When you manage to get 3.33 with a much higher volume of 3.44 trades than 3.22, I'll upvote this.

People sell to scrap.tf for various reason such as to help the site but I don't think scrap.tf really plays a big factor in the market

My answer would be events. If you look at tf2 fiance, keys usually rise at events like holloween, steam market beta, etc.

And after those events their price always drop at the same of before. Still can't get why this Xmas it didn't happen.

Being apart of Backpack.tf and outpost I've seen for awhile now that there is a flaw People on Outpost purposely stay above backpack.tf by about a scrap. So it will rise on and on

If this website is taken down (many people want so due to misconceptions) keys will still rise always will raise no matter what any website says. Because there will always be events that will upset key values.

Plus if backpack were taken down people would just use spreadsheet prices. And they're not exactly.. quite as accurate nor as community driven.

key averaging at 3.33 indicates that there are sales on both ends. Will have to reject this one since it's been pretty (surprisingly) stable for the past little while in this range. That said, while you do bring up many people buying at 3.33, it's in the current range.

If the suggestion had been 3.33, it might have been more accurate that this suggestion or the current price.
