Additional Information:

Link 1 contains several offers of 2 keys per hat, and one person (Stupid Sexy Medic! [MCT]) offering 2 keys specifically for the Pickelhaube.

Link 2 contains another 2 key offer, as well as an offer of 2 keys and a craft hat.

Link 3 contains an offer of 4 ref per hat, which is low but still over 1 key.

Link 4's trade is 4 months old and the trader's backpack is set to private, but what matters here are the offers - several offers of 2 keys, and one of 2 keys and a refined.

I should also mention that none of the 2 key offers seem to have been accepted, which is likely attributable to traders wanting to retain their vintage first-generation hats in hopes of a second price spike after retirement hits. However, the evidence shows that this is what most people are willing to offer for this hat at this time.

what is the point of raising vintage prices? It is just a temporary spike due to stupidity - vintages haven't been obtainable since 2010.

      i think the same

What you don't get is that. People would rather have the vintage ones and demand spiked. And there was people ready to pay more.

I agree, the vintages should technically be unaffected by the announcement.

the OP talks about "restoring proportionality" but I don't think there needs to be any ratio between the value of the vintage and unique in this case.

Can vote the price down later I suppose but for now the evidence checks out. I guess the question is, do we up vote even though its a temporary hype price caused by stupidity? I think we do..

The point of raising vintage prices is twofold:

        1. Evidence from trades indicates that the amount of keys people are willing to offer on these hats has risen. This is the point this price increase bases itself on.

        2. Prices for the unique-quality pickelhaubes have risen since the retirement announcement. Prior to the announcement, they were trading at 1.33 for craftable and 0.33-0.66 for non-craftables. On this website's spreadsheet, unique quality pickelhaubes are now trading at 2 to 2.33 refined, with non-craftables trading at 1 ref - but the Vintage version remains at 1 key, as it had before the announcement. Proportionally, this doesn't make any sense and actually implies the price of the Vintage version of the hat is lower compared to the non-vintage version. The Vintage version must therefore rise in price to restore proportionality and for the pricing system to continue making sense.

The price increased, yes. But I don't get point number 2.

There is no direct and obvious link between unique and vintage quality version of the hat. The vintages have long been limited.

And and a vintage quality item must not automatically lead to some sort of fixed (higer) price ratio with the unique version.

It's as simple as supply and demand. A (for unknown moron reasons) sudden increase in demand will lead to more competition for each hat on the market. So if you want one, you have to offer more than the other guys. That is the increase in price. As the price rises, more supply gets available, because people are more inclined to sell at a high price. When the price can equaly support supply and demand an equilibrium price has been found.

Same is true for the other way around accordingly.

Very simplified and not saying it's the only reason, but I dare to say the main reason.

I agree with this. Plenty of offers out there at 3 keys. Glad someone made a higher price suggestion. Mine was a bit to low.

Actually not to many offers at 3 keys, but this price is just about perfect in my opinion. Tons of people offer 2 keys for it.

            nice proof upvote

While I agree with many people that the price spick is nutty, it's still the price people are willing to pay.

ive seen them usually go for 2 keys unless ur with an unreasonable trader
