I'm still able to buy at 3.44 and sell at 3.66. As I've pointed out before I even have 2 friends in Japan that say the price over there is still 2.33 - 2.66 in trade rooms.

just because it is 'easy to sell' doesn't make the price wrong. if anything it makes the price even more right. even if you massively overprice something you will still get an occasional buyer who doesn't hunt for the best deal or is rich/metal farming and simply couldn't care less.

You're gonna need a lot more than that. Keys are an easy sell at 3.66 right now.

Key prices crashing? Never heard of it.

I've been trading for over ~2 years and I've never seen key prices drop in relation to refined. And I don't see it happening unless something big occurs, specially in relation to metal.

The only thing that can happen is if Valve steps in and somehow gives refined a unique value. Some special craft or something...

He meant the other way around. Like 3 refined crafting into a hat does, in a way. But considering you can get two craft hats for 1.33 refined each stíll doesn't fill a purpose.

Thinking aloud here. What if having metal being worth less and less in the secondary market is a plan? They want store items to be sold. If keys are so expensive metal wise, the fastest way for a regular player is to buy them from the store, assuming this player plays occasionally and just wants to try his luck unboxing a few crates. How long it takes to harvest ~4 ref with 1 account? ...

To answer your last question first, about 8 weeks of weapon drops. Anyways, if Valve wanted to make more store revenue, they wouldn't have released the steam community market. They'll still make a ton with their "seasonal" keys (which seem to be more and more frequent), but I'd be very interested in the sum they've made with their 10% +5% "fee." The community market is also one of the reasons key prices jumped again. With it's release just before the winter sale, people needed keys to cash in on cheap games. If metal was allowed to be sold at the same time as keys, it wouldn't have boosted key prices. Granted, there still would be some increase, I just don't see it being as drastic as it was.

It seems to me that Valve is making money in both sides. Metal worthless increases store and community market sales. And both generate money. Specially in promotions (winter, summer, halloween). Adding refined to the community market seems odd, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened. It would be like fabricating money. They give weapons to everyone for free, people make metal and sell between themselves, and they we get a % of each sale. And the more idling accounts are created, more money would be generated and gone to their pockets. Fun, eh?

True, but we also never had a site like this one to report prices too. I think the the crux of the situation is that the last suggestion to bring the top end to 3.66 was wrong. Should have been 3.55. Which would mean that the price isn't really dropping, it was just listed wrong for a day or 2. perfectly understandable since people are not infallible. :)

I hope you're not serious with upvoting this based on that alone. Go to outpost, and most sellers are selling for 3.66. Trades for less are sold out in minutes. Selling for 3.66 requires me to bump a trade 2-3 times, even with the massive amount of other people selling for the same price.

Upvoting this suggestion is completely ignoring this. Although I'm sure we all want Key prices to drop again, me included, right now the current price is the price Keys go for.

Really? I've never personally seen a 3.55 trade open for very long. Might just be because of the sheer number of people selling keys that I simply missed the people who still had some...

Still though, selling at 3.66 may take a few bumps, but its entirely possible.

Also, prices are listed in ref or keys because thats what people use to buy them. NO ONE will use Refined to buy a Strange Gunslinger, thats why its price is 32-33 keys and not 110-115 ref or whatever it is that range of keys would equal in refined.

You are right. One can't simply find keys cheaper than 3.55 anywhere. Selling at 3.66 is hard, but not impossible. Buying at 3.44 is hard too. But, 3.33 is a lie. It should be 3.44-3.66.

Upvoting should not be based on tf2fiance where they simply divided the ref by the number of keys in the market to get there value... reasons why you get a value like 3.46 The point of backpack.tf is to prove that they can not sell for the 3.66 price as to remove it from the range.. using tf2fiance means nothing.... cause say one day everyone just said screw it and crafted hats with ref. That number would drop a lot now would you propose a price change then? Probably not because it be an unneeded crash.

i'm not sure what to think of this. The last key suggestion passed because it made a lot of sense; this one is the first suggestion in a long time that would lower the price of keys that isn't a complete troll. Imma stay neutral on this one.

there is no any reason to rise or keep the key price just because it went up many times

first off, no need to be rude; secondly, the market decides key prices. people can complain about key inflation all they want, that isn't going to change the demand.

I completely agree. Even though this might not seem like a major change, it will lead to keys lowering in price, thus sellers will sell them for even less, thus keys deflating faster than a sex doll in a prison gang bang.

Not specific to this suggestion, but while people keep making suggestions based on tf2finance's today (or current hour's) price, which naturally fluctuates and will keep that way, there will never be peace. Just use a reasonable time span and settle for its average. Otherwise every single day will have a different suggestion.

What is the reasonable time span? Well, you got me. But it definitely shouldn't be less than a week, or even 2 weeks, in normal circumstances (no holiday sales, etc).

Nice debate going here. What if someone sells 1 key for 4 ref because some random guy in desperate need of a key will pick the first trade he sees (the one with 1 key = 4 ref)? Trade owner goes here and suggests 4 ref per key and all key sellers will obviously upvote that. Everyone'll be like "Oh, look! He sold a key for 4 ref, that means I can too!". With this perspective keys will only keep growing up in price.

Well, since that time I learned a lot about backpack.tf pricing. In my original post I was generally talking about keys and their rising price. Everytime they rise by 1 scrap but they don't go down in price though. Sellers just raise the price by 1 scrap and wait until some idiot buys the key for x ref +1 scrap. It goes to bp.tf and voila, new price for a key is x ref + 1 scrap. This is an endless cycle. keys will keep rising.

Of course keys will keep rising...and they always have been. It's an extremely complicated situation that revolves around a messed up supply and demand. Many of us study the situation in depth and try our best to understand why it is happening.

Yeah you have good proof and the keys shouldn't rise up think how hard it will be to get one!
