Since no one wants to put the middle ground of the two current suggestions, I'll bite the bullet. All of this proof will be taken the other suggestions, credit to them for finding it all.

And last but not least tf2finance is at 3.65 as of 5:45pm Central Time http://tf2finance.com/keys/
Keys are easy to buy and sell at the low end of 3.55 most commonly traded at 3.66 and harder but possible at 3.77, how it should be in my opinion with tf2finance right in the middle.
Please feel free to turn this into the shitstorm all key suggestions turn into (but seriously, please don't). I also don't own many keys or ref. I haven't played tf2 in almost 2 months now, just like keeping prices updated.
Comments are appreciated and I will more than happily close this if there is substantial proof against me, this just seemed to be the general consensus on what the suggestion should be on the last few suggestions.
Half an hour in and people have already started dislike warring each other comments, it has begun I guess :/
Only one of your trades shows a successful buy at 3.55, this one:
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/8594713
The others are just "some guy offered 3.55 on a key and now has one. Which is pathetic proof because he might have paid 3.66 in the end, or just sold some other item for keys (while spending metal).
You still get an upvote but I think 3.55 is wishful thinking.
EDIT: If anybody has proof of people selling for 3.55 or 3.66, please post it, cause I have a shitload of metal I'd convert to keys.
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/8087505
Ok sell me 6 keys @ 3.66 then, thanks (yes, I read your rules and I get how you make your profit but if you want to disprove anything here, sell them for 3.66 straight)
upvote.
Thanks Ear :)
Hopefully we won't need any more suggestions for a while for keys, price seem to be stabilizing in my opinion. A lot less buyers and a more sellers entering the market.
I was about to put up this exact suggestion. I was just getting the proof, when it told me a suggestion of this exact price was already made. I closed my last suggestion because of 100000000 comments saying "3.55-3.77"
nah. Only approximately 10. Most of the posts are just ragers who hate key changes, whether it is going up or down. I dunno. Soon the key may drop.
I was going to suggest this exact price, but you beat me to it... Not to brag, but the proof I've got is actually a lot better than.... well, what you have. Half of it from someone else, and most of it irrelevant.
You're only increasing the range to 3.77. ALL you need to do is show sales of 3.77 since you kept the range of 3.55-3.66.
You did that terribly, no offence. I'm inclined to upvote though, but if this gets closed just because of the level of your proof, I'll jump up and try it myself.
No, all of it are from other people. I never took credit for finding any of it, I actually say credit to them for finding it.
I think it is all pretty relevant and solid to be honest, but hey, that's your opinion. If this is closed, by all means, go ahead and submit your own suggestion. Also, sorry if I am terrible at making suggestions and your proof is a lot better, but I frankly don't care. Key suggestions have passed off less proof than this, I think this will do fine.
Also as Sugoi stated, this site is here to help others, not make yourself feel better about your rep or contributions. If you are going to suggest the same price, linking your proof would be nice. But if you want to keep it to yourself in hopes my suggestion is deleted, by all means.
I understand, but I'm not giving my opinion, I'm stating the fact of the matter.
Most of your proof IS irrelevant, and you should actually listen to why:
The current range is 3.55-3.66. That means you don't need proof of ANY sales in that range. What your suggestion does is expand the high end of the range to include 3.77. The ONLY PROOF that contributes to this suggestion, therefore, is sales of 3.77 ref.
You have maybe 4-5 links that show 3.77. Over? Irrelevant because it's out of the range. Hell, anything that's 3.88+ is practically disproving you. Almost, but not quite. All of the 3.55-3.66 proof is completely irrelevant because that's what the range is, and you aren't changing that. 3.55 and 3.66 IS still included in this.
Make a little more sense? Sorry if I'm being harsh ;c
Why don't you link your proof here to further his cause? Is it because you're being greedy and want the rep when you make your own with your "better proof"? This site isn't about getting to most rep, but rather to make accurate price suggestions. If you are here to get rep, rather than update prices, leave.
I won't do that. If you want to stupidly mistake it for greed, be my guest.
it's my proof that I dug for. I guess that's kind of DIFFERENT for you, since all the proof you got isn't dug up by you.
I don't support you because you can't do that yourself. Now you're asking for MY proof too? MY work that I dug up? Get over yourself.
Uhm you do realize that this site is not for inflating your ego? If you have proof, post it.
If this suggestion fails, so will yours, there is ample of proof in the comments already. Sitting on proof that underlines a current suggestion is bad practice in my opinion.
I showed proof of sales at 3.77, and 1000 people said "3.55-3.77" "No flat key prices" "Earmax is obviously a racist" "Death to earmax" meh, I have heard it all before =/
Well, they were sort of harsh, I agree. But you also removed the low end of 3.55. You'd need to also show they don't sell for that exact amount too. Bad luck I suppose.
Tons of great links to back up your suggested price. Anyone else agree with me?
Thanks man, glad you think it is a solid suggestion. :D

Don'T forget mine (that I made to prove 3.66-3.77):
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/8633695
Basically I feel like the lower end is hard to achieve when buying. At least on outpost. Heck I am having a hard time finding sellers at 3.66.
u need more sold for 3.77 for convince me, since i wont upvote with 5 - 8 succesful sellers
Basically TL;DR of what I said, lol. I agree strongly.
Look into the comments, there are so many successful sellers at 3.77.
I am ready to buy at 3.66 but I do not find any sellers that have keys. If you do, please point me to them.
so many, u mean 5? 6?
Key suggestions typically need like 30+ links with a cumulative amount of sales of over 200 or so if you want a decent amount of links for a currency.
do u want some for 3.66? i can give for u

8636224 offline, but still has stock, I'll try him.
But it confirms that the 3.66 price point gets sold out very quickly.
just bought 3 keys at 3.66 from scrap.tf. Showing that 3.55 ref keys are still being sold. Therefore upvote here.
... Those sales are in the current suggested price amount. Completely irrelevant to this suggestion. Lol..
im replying to zak my friend, thanks
nono. another one is competing for this one. zaks. He thinks it is impossible to take keys at 3.55. I am supporting this one over the other because of this.
Not impossible but its a fluke. I mean scrap.tf doesn't have any keys on sale, which clearly indicates that more people buy for 3.66 than sell for 3.55. Which in turn implies the range should start at 3.66 so supply would go up.
Also I cannot remember the last time keys had a 2 scrap range.
So basically we need to pick between 3.55-3.66 and 3.66-3.77. And I believe the later is more accurate. Make sense?
10 days ago was when we has the last 2 scrap range http://backpack.tf/vote/id/510e9525ba25360907000001
2 scrap range can be accurate for sure. I mean once I bought 12 at 3.33 each while people where sucessfully selling at 3.66. anyhow scrap.tf does have keys, you just have to be patient.
Fluke, lol.
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/3539291
Dont tell me "there are only 2 adds in past week", we all know sellers just add to friendlist instead posting shit. 9 of 10 for sure.
People are listing their sell priced based on this site and the price set here. If this site say price is 3.55 to 3.66 than most will try and sell at 3.77 to 3.88 if not the spread listed, why? Because it is human nature. You could drop the price to 2.33 today and people would start selling at 2.44 and 2.55.
This item has to much overwhelming impact to use the so called "proof" listed in each and every post to raise or lower prices. Trading of keys happens in every possible type of way there is in TF2, to use a fraction of web sites to base a value on is inaccurate at best.
Sellers will try and make a profit off what the listed value is here, they view this site as the only real source for key values. The responsibility of that can not be stressed enough and yet there is a reckless and total disregard for all the factors involved and instead is limited to point sells that account for less than .01% of daily sells.
The price of keys must reflect the value FOR the market and not the buyer or seller. Metal is a major factor in this value but not the only one. One factor that gets over looked is the future, not of the price of keys but what will keep new players coming to TF2 and being active in the market. If they can not afford to 'be' in the market in a reasonable amount of time than why would they want to stay.
I guess what I am trying to say is something this big, this capable of effecting the whole of the economy, should not be left in the hands of players alone or a few 'admins'. Stability is needed, but more importantly, professional research on a reasonable scale. This is not happening right now. Your goal should be to support the market as a whole. Repricing an item daily or even a few times a month is and always has been bad for economies.
People are willing to pay the prices.
Eventually it will pop, but it hasn't.
We don't dictate prices (this has been said multiple times before) we just reflect what people are currently willing to sell and buy them for.
Eventually people will be fed up and not want to pay 27 ref for a key, and then they will start to come back down so people can sell their keys. It is basic supply and demand.
Yes and it seems very few people are even selling keys these days. A side comment on the range (since we have competing suggestions): I believe the key price should have a scrap range. One price for selling, one for buying. Look at scrap.tf. If you were to suggest them a selling/buying price, what would it be. That answer should be the range here.
In my mind at least I read the ranges for "minimum price I could get one for without waiting for days" - "maximum price I could sell one for without waiting for days".
Turns out you can easily get 3.66 (even 3.77) these days, so your lower range, in my opinion, gives bad trade advice to people. Selling for 3.55 would be stupid if you can sell 20 keys @ 3.77 each in 50 minutes (see my trade).
Totally agree, just look at price history:
Accepted 12 days ago
Accepted 10 days ago
Accepted 7 days ago
And 3 suggestion today, not counting past 7 days tries.
I saw how some brad pitts accepred last suggestions before.
They should totally remove pricing for keys, unless its taken from some kind of tf2finance graphs for long period.
Funny how ppls keep saying "this site not manipulate".
We don't manipulate, we record.
Do you know the difference?
Recording 8 times per month.
Banks irl should record it: so ppls buying 1.33$ for 1Є. So we can record some price to 1.4. Ppls will start buy more, some for profit later, some for needs. Repeat.
Ah, so us recording it 8 times in one month is a bad thing.
Sorry for trying to be up to date for you.
Market doing it well (keeping up to date) as did it before, not few admins and 20 links on single site.
IRL currency course reflect economics, not what someone willing to pay for it.
Also, 99.6% pricing accuracy looks ironic (for me).
Thats not my dislikes as it looks. I dont even vote, see no sense at all.
YES!
YES!
HIGHER! HIGHER!
UPVOTES TO PIERCE THE HEAVENS!
Just who the hell do you think I am?
EDIT: He was making a reference to my name, I was responding with a reference as well. Jesus, calm down.
Someone who doesnt realize that some people treat this site like the bible of trading and others a guide. People use this to price above to sell and then buy the "normal" price to make a profit. By increasing this price the profit traders increase prices and then the people here increase to "reflect community prices." Yes, this site has the intention to reflect the prices, but it has come to the point where it controls them if you get the correct vote. Its unfortunately something that cant change. The only way to prevent the inflation would be to stop key trades, because this site allows people to dictate their prices higher and higher.
Using TF2 Finance as a resource for proof here is bull, because as people sell higher on outpost, the number on finance increases and so does the one here. It is a perpetual loop.
Amen! The lack of responsibility to how this site handles the pricing of keys is disgraceful to the extreme. Should be a requirements to be allowed to vote or participate in voting for items like keys, base currency for TF2. For that matter for making any topic to change a price on any item, minimum post, play time, something.
I think it should be more along the lines of an A or B in a high school Economy class and passing a common sense test.
Lack of responsibility? You do realize we take extreme care in reporting what people are actually buying/selling for...right?
Of course not, we are all Hitler incarnates who go around dictating prices because we like being rich and the economy has nothing to do with supply and demand and is solely based off of the prices here.
If we prices a key at 2 buds, people would be more than happy to pay 2 buds, because we set the prices, not everyone else.
A lot of people have so many misconceptions about this site and this suggestion truly is bringing it out. :(
OOH OOH my turn. Do we get to use the "You do realize" line. COOL!
You do realize that if you took "extreme care" the price of keys wouldnt be this high.
I'll use everyone's favorite resource, tf2finance. According to tf2finance, the price of keys skyrocketed 1 month after the halloween event and (what i believe, please correct me if im wrong) the release of backpack.tf. No site becomes famous instantaneously so, why not a month for backpack to get popular. It gives users a more user-friendly experience than spreadsheet, so people would prefer it. Lets see the average thought process
New User- "OH, look guys, its a democracy here, we can help with the price of keys. Well, outpost has them selling here, so lets make that our price."
Capitalist Trader- "Poplar trade site lists price here. hmm, i should sell slightly higher to make a profit. ILL BE RICH"
Users- "Hey, that price is slightly higher, we should make a vote for new prices with the proof Capitalist Traders trade."
Capitalist Trader- "Hey, that price rose. I need to increase my price to make profit. WEALTH!"
Users- "Hey, that price is slightly higher, we should make a vote for new prices with the proof Capitalist Traders trade."
Capitalist Trader- "Hey, that price rose. I need to increase my price to make profit. WEALTH!"
and so on and so forth until you have this. A mass increase in prices
price of keys skyrocketed 1 month after the halloween event and (what i believe, please correct me if im wrong) the release of backpack.tf.
So wrong it hurts. The reason they sky rocketed was due to mass unboxing.
That has to be the worst analogy I've ever read as well. Keys aren't rising. Refined is dropping.
The mass unboxing happened because of, wait for it, the Halloween event.
You claimed the rise was because of backpack.tf, I just said it was due to the mass unboxing. I was clearly referring to the "mass unboxing" as the Halloween event.
The rise in keys was due to the mass unboxing, and now it is due to the value of refined dropping like a rock. "You do realize" that, right?
Highballers will always 1-up the book price of an item. It is only when people actually start buying from them because there is nobody selling at a lower price that the price increases. It is actually a very complicated situation. When you have players like me that could completely manipulate the market if they wanted to if they put all of their resources into it. I could drop around 700 keys into the market if I wanted to.
Another factor is you have people that do nothing but buy up anybody lower than their price and resale at higher prices. If you have 20-30 people doing this, they can easily increase the overall price.
But yes, and increase in the backpack.tf price will eventually influence the perceived price on the market and the highballers will start charging more. But it is only when the buyers start paying their prices that the price actually changes.
"Will there ever be as many keys as there were before the halloween update. No."
There are MUCH more keys in existence now, compared to before the mass unbox. Also, very will buy keys from the MannCo store because they can easily be purchased for $1.30
I realize that the unboxing caused it all, but people wouldnt have had as great a resource to help "fix" the price of keys if it weren't for backpack. I'm sorry if you feel like Im trying to vilify you or the website, but if prices are capable of moving like this, then something needs to change.
Hypothetically, lets say metal farmers continued, but no price change happened. Keys stayed around 2.66 ref. If keys are this easy to get, people start competing to get them the fastest to get that pretty unusual first. As a result they make bots to make their buying instant. Now, no one can buy keys for metal, so what do they do, they buy keys. And more keys slowly enter the market.
Will there ever be as many keys as there were before the halloween update. No. People can still try to buy keys from Mann Co, but they wont because no one wants to spend money on something that can be gotten by farming metal up to the highest point. "You do realize" that keys need to be stabilized in order for more to enter the market and then reach a real stabilization, right?
>Also, very will buy keys from the MannCo store because they can easily be purchased for $1.30
Looks like you're working at Valve, so you can prove how many keys are selling in Store.
Check this, you can test buy yourself, how long (in seconds) you need to wait, before you sell key for 2.4$ (2.1 w/o fee)
http://steamcommunity.com/market/
Key prices here will not be accepted without adequate proof that they are already happening. Do you want us to lie and say that keys aren't selling at X price but at X price - 1/2 scrap? If people are willing to pay what that trader is trying to sell them at, then there isn't enough competition to lower prices and that is the price.
Key prices are not really rising. It's the refined prices that are dropping.
That is the first valid argument i have seen that was put together decently. Thank you. I would like to know, because i may not have noticed, where the refined prices dropping part came from.
I will be done arguing (not done understanding and learning your PoV) if you can honestly say that backpack's ability to let players vote on prices(not necessarily just key prices, but in general) has absolutely nothing to do with the inflation.
My final question to you is, if the key prices are moving around this fast, why arent buds. In a year or 2, will you be surprised if a key is worth the refined that a bud is now?
Refined is lowering in price due to the mass farming of it.
Buds price is based on keys.
As I said, the value of refined is dropping. The value of keys is staying relatively the same. The devaluing of refined has no influence on the key-bud price. But if you look at the price of buds in refined, the price has soared. It would take you at least 100+ refined to buy a bud. I was selling them for 80 refined before Halloween.
Thank you for helping me understand the situation better. I didn't realize that refined had been so devalued.
I am stubborn and will never agree to an increase in these prices, but i am glad that you helped me understand the why and get another perspective to contemplate.
Thank you very much
I've been playing TF2 for almost 3 years now, have voted well over 1000 times on this site in the past 2 months, and over 1000 correct as well.
Don't see why I shouldn't be allowed to make this post based on your standards, but I believe this site does a fine job of recording what the items are being sold for and purchased for.
Please take the time out of your day to make a proof filled suggestion and then say it is disgraceful how this site is run. We also only make suggestions, we don't dictate the prices.
You are right. You do only make suggestions. Unfortunately, people seem to agree with the same idea that prices need to always reflect the profit making trades. I dont hate this site. I hate the community who use it and believe that changing prices constantly is a good idea. You and everyone else who are a major part of this site(which i respect) say you don't dictate the price. The sad truth is that it does. So many traders view this site as the ultimate resource and will pay for whatever is close to its prices. When they cant find the price that this site displays, they go 1 scrap higher and the perpetual loop continues.
@Ingeniosi: While I hate the decision making process here (mostly on Unusuals where a single low sale will lower the value while a single high offer is not even considered for a bump) when it comes to key prices, it really is documentary of actual supply and demand.
Scrap.tf is a very good indicator for this as well, they currently buy at 3.55 and sell at 3.66 and every time I checked, they were out of keys. So while they do offer the "fair" price you seem to suggest, they have a lack of supply.
The main problem is that keys have been undervalued for years now, staying at 2.33-2.44 for ages, while loads more metal entered the system. The community market then reminded us that keys can very easily be resold for close to the $2.50 mark which made keys a lot more valuable in comparison to before.
I realize this sucks for the small guys, who need to collect metal for ages to get a single key. But it is not backpack.tf that is to blame.
I updated my submission and thought I would share the proof for my lower end (which incidentally disproves your lower end):
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/8638249 (Buying at 3.77)
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/8634448 (me, buying at 3.66, so far not takers)
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/8608556 (Buying at 3.66)
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/8558936 (Buying at 3.66)
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/8557992 (Buying at 3.66)
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/8536408 (Buying at 3.66)
If so many people are quickbuying at 3.66, the people selling at 3.55 should be regarded as those who cannot use search. We might as well set the lower bound to 3 ref if we take those people into account.
Damn you! I was about to do this suggestion!
It was desperately needed haha.
im selling keys for 2 keys each, add me if interested :>
The keys are still 2.66 and every seller knows this, especially when his keys are sold out and he's looking to get new ones. Once he gets enough keys to resell, he suddenly forgets about the real price of the key and for some reason the price reaches 3.66+. Keep making silly excuses like "there are not enough keys on the market and the demand is growing" or "people are willing to pay 3.66+ for my keys". You should be ashamed of yourselves since you even manage to make trades with descriptions like this: "I am selling keys for 3.66. Price is firm. I am BUYING keys for 3.33, not a scrap more"
Crabislav, you don't understand. Key prices are NOT rising, they have remained stable for ages.
REFINED prices are plummeting, not keys. Keys have remained at a stable $1.25-$1.30 for months now, refined on the other hand, heh.
http://i.imgur.com/jC7wkjq.png Saying keys are still 2.66 is just ignorant.
The ONLY thing driving up key prices is refined value. That is all.
NOT
Demand- very buyers of keys now a days, many more sellers
Supply- there are more keys on the market now than there has ever been
Backpack.tf- We just record what people are selling for, the price has already changed by the time we make the suggestion
Updated proof:
Keys need an update, let's face it.
They have always been a 1 scrap range so I cleaned up the proof for this updated range of 3.66-3.77.
Many people are not quickbuying for 3.66 refined, so anybody selling for 3.55 or less should not be considered (otherwise we'd have to put the lower range at 3 ref since some people naively sell for that). Incidentally I found nobody selling for 3.55, even my offer of 3.66 didn't attract any attention in 2 hours.

Disclaimer: yes I have keys in my backpack, like any somewhat serious trader. However you will also notice that I have like $4000 backpack value. I do not care if I can sell a few keys for a scrap more. But I care about finding misleading values on backpack.tf. Even when selling for 3.66 my friendlist got flooded in minutes. At 3.77 I sold 19 keys in 47 minutes. That is why I made this suggestion.
The backpack.tf price suggestions are TOTALLY MAD! You keep raising the price here and try to affect the others, but one day you'll fail and the backpack.tf price system will collapse, keep that in mind.
