People use scrap.tf because of the convenience, not because of it's good price currently. There are tons of people selling on outpost too for 4 ref.

Oh god not again, will those key suggestions ever end? A new price has been accepted 6 hours ago, yet they make new suggestions. I think backpack.tf shouldn't accept any price suggestion for keys for a while or this will never end - as soon as someones suggestion gets accepted they will try to raise the prices for another 0.11 ref. Downvote!

People keep on raising key prices because outpost traders sell at 1 scrap above upper limit. They say it reflects the market.

Here's a thought. People like to raise the price of a hat scraps above 1.33, or a scrap above the ticket price of 1.88. Pretty much everything on outpost sells a bit more than what is shown on backpack.tf.

If you people are so keen on raising key prices, why not do the same for all hats? Lets just make craft hats 1.44 or 1.55. Or increase the price of miscs and action items. Or raise unusual prices because everyone is selling them above the suggested price.

It is absolutely normal for prices to be above the one shown on backpack.tf and it is unnecessary to raise it every day. If you like doing that so much, go and increase the price of every hat. I'm sure you will find loads of "proof".

Agree with you. The key price has started going up since bp became popular. It's just this 'suggestion' system. It should definitely be changed.

cause otherwise situation will get worse and worse... Keys sellers GOT USED to the thing that they can INCREASE price by 1 scrap every week. Check the key price. It has never been constantly rising in such long period.

+ If you count all ref+rec+scrap and the quantity of the keys, you will find the ratio = around 3.55 to 1.

backpack is being used to lobby price of the key in refined up.

Here's a suggestion, backpack.tf price shouldn't be increased on keys unless it's more than a rec. That will at least delay the price suggestions on keys every 5-6 hours

And this is partially why I have stop bothering trading for profit.

The increase in key price would happen with or without bp.tf

bp.tf made be speeding the process along (but thats not necessarily a bad thing, since the faster they rise the faster they'll peak, and stabilize)

People use the marketplace as a means to drive up the price (and thats what set this whole situation in motion).

Heres what happens:

Current key price is 3.55 Ref

Someone sells a bunch of keys at 3.55 Ref and decides to bump his price to 3.66 Ref. People see he's succesful and bump their sell prices to 3.66 Ref, soon almost everyone is asking for 3.66 ref, and 3.66 is now the price of keys. Someone sells a bunch at 3.66 Ref and the cycle repeats.

This cycle has nothing to do with bp.tf, bp.tf might be speedingly it along, but it is most certainly NOT creating it.

Soemthing else to keep in mind, back when keys were 2.66 Ref, how many people traded? When i checked the number of users who used Outpost back in September, there were 170,000~ registered users...and now, theres close to 300,000.....FAR FAR more people are trading, which leads to an increased demand in keys, resulting in a higher key price.

Furthermore, people always say how there are more keys in existence now then ever, but they always skip over 1 small detail...How many of those keys actually enter the TF2 Ref market? and how many go to the market place?

History of keys:

Keys were 2-2.33 for the longest time because there was NO reason for them to go up and then halloween 2011 came along (the catalyst) and prices raised to 3 Ref, and remained at 3 Ref until about January (right after xmas), at which point they went to 2.66 Ref. Halloween 2012 came along, the demand for keys went up and the price rose to 3 Ref, then the marketplace was added, 2 critical events involving keys happening in such a short time, becoming the catalyst for key prices.....

P.S. Keys aren't going up Ref is going down, Why? Simple.... there are FAR more idle accounts now than there were back when keys were 2.66 Ref.

Price is x - x+0.11

Someone decides to set the price for his keys at x+0.22

In a week 6-10 idiots add him to buy some

People see this and start selling theirs at the same price or higher

This goes to backpack.tf

Price increases because "SUCCESSFUL SELLERS FOR x+0.22 HURR" and "SELLING FOR x+0.22 DURR"

This suggestion gets accepeted

New price: x+0.11 - x+0.22

Repeat.

Give up, you know this is what's going on.
