Now before anyone comment something like "did you even look at the previous suggestion?" or "You should look at the previous suggestion before converting back to keys", calm down and allow me to explain on why I did this suggestion.

Yes, I am aware that the currency change was due to the fact that this can be crafted with 4 ref and 1 weapon. I have been observing the trades in Outpost a day ago and collected links showing trades selling for 1 key. Today when I checked those links, more than half of what I collected was sold for 1 key. What I’m trying to say here is that, even though it is only logical that the price is set in refined due to constant change in key prices, but the fact that there are so many traders willing to buy at 1 key means that logic can no longer play a role here.

So now, the question that all of us have been asking. What if keys go up in price again? Let me answer that for you. If key prices increase again, I can assure you that the sales of this item will still not be affected. Yes, you can craft this hat for a cheaper price, but please do not forget the fact that Outpost is filled with traders who sometimes couldn’t be bothered much about these things. For example, why do people buy uncraftable weapons such as the cow mangler at 10 USD when they can get it from timed drop or even pay 1 scrap to other traders for it? The trading world is sometimes unexplainable in many ways. To answer the question earlier, if key prices do go up, the sales of the Familiar Fez at 1 key will not be affected at this point after seeing that most people will still go on and pay 1 key for the Fez. Could it be that traders are too lazy to craft one for themselves? Or they just couldn’t be bothered? We will never know.

As I noted on the previous suggestion, some traders are willing to pay a small premium for dropped vs. crafted items. I'm not sure whether that has anything to to do with the price of the fez, but it'll be interesting to see how the votes go with some proof around, and whether anyone provides any counterproof that ref is still a common payment method

it's maybe actual if item has craftnumber but Fez not has any craftnumbers at all, also it's better to wear hat crafted by yourself than unnamed one.

Also i don't think that trader who got 4 refs and want fez will trade them for it, that's why it's hard to show that sort of trades. Lazy people who don't want change just 1 key to metal trade 1:1 for fez, but when keys will rise, this will happen more often.

You can craft a Fez with 4 refined and a Saharan spy weapon (4.05 refined).

Our price should reflect the price of Fezzes in general and not just dropped ones.

Yes, I know that its possible to craft one for 4.05 refined and that the price should reflect the Fezzes in general. But the fact is that traders are buying and selling at 1 key regardless of the fact that their crafted or not. There is no particular craft no. for this item and ppl don't really go to the extend of checking whether its crafted or not. The main reason why I suggested this currency change is because of the massive amount of trades using keys instead of metal and I doubt that this situation will change even if key prices were to rise again.

The price of a key is probably going to rise again. Pricing this as a key may reflect the market, but there is no real reason why it should be worth more than 4.05 refined. By principle, we should change the price to a key if that is indeed what people are paying, but I strongly dislike that price.

Actually, this could be a breaking point in the price of keys to refined. Perhaps people will begin to realize that crafting refined together for hats is worthwhile again?

Well, I don't really like the idea of hats/misc being priced under key but we can't really control the market if they're willing to pay with keys instead of ref. But I totally understand what you're trying to point out here.

Crafting hats/weapons are expensive to begin with, but not in this case as of now. The fez is a very popular hat and this could be the only one worth crafting but I'm not really sure about other hats though. Some traders in general are weird in the sense that they rather pay more for an item which they can get for a cheaper price (like the uncraftable cow mangler example above). Well, let's see what will happen in future if keys were to rise further. At this moment, we don't even know the limit to how much ppl will pay for a key. Could it be 4.33 ref or even up to 5 ref a key? We have yet to reach there.

Why exactly was this like 3.66 earlier? Did demand go up to make it go up? Or just more metal (which i don't necessarily think that is legitimate or not)?

The point of the previous suggestion was, that in the future keys are probably going to raise further, thus making it cheaper to craft this hat than buying it.

Up until this moment key-prices havent risen yet so we can neither confirm nor deny the probability that once keys are worth more than 4.11 this is not gonna go for a key anymore.

The point being: at this moment this suggestion is pointless because nothing has changed, the argumentation for the previous, accepted suggestion still stands.

Though if key prices are actually increasing its probably a good idea to check how prices for this item are influenced.

You're making the assumption that people will still pay a key for it when/if keys are worth more than it takes to craft the hat. I don't think that's a very good assumption. The last accepted suggestion was more future proof.

This suggestion makes sense to me. Upvote. Wouldv'e done this my self, but I was out of town this weekend.

The convertion only makes sense if more people buy it at 1 key than at 4-4.11 ref metal. You provided enough proof that they do, so it is an upvote.

Whatever will happen when key price will rise again I don't know. Maybe we have to suggest a new price, but at the moment most of the deals are at 1 key. And backpack.tf reflects the current situation.

1. The purpose of this site is to reflect current trading values as accurately as possible. Including what currency is the most commonly used.

2. The OP has provided plenty of evidence that the Familiar Fez, even if it is craftable for slightly less than a key, is being consistently sold for 1 key.

3. I see a considerable lack of counter-evidence. Only counter argument which, by itself, cannot effectively be reason enough to deny a suggestion. In addition, these counter arguments suggest that the price of keys may rise again which is true. However, in such a situation the price of this item may be revised again in short order provided enough evidence is supplied that shows they no longer sell for a (now higher valued) key.

Given these facts, I see no reason why this shouldn't pass as people appear to prefer paying for these with keys and not metal.

well, if you only consider the crafting part to be 1 counter evidence, then sure, there isnt a lot. however, it wouldnt do justice for the site to price it over what you can craft it for. if this were accepted, we would see another suggestion reverting it back to this price once keys go up. So why bother?

It's our goal to report what people are paying, no matter how foolish or nonsensical the price. I do think that 1 key will be a stupid price to pay, but if people are paying it, then we have to report that.

Like 3800racingfool said, we can always revise the price later if people wise up and stop paying a key for it. If not, it'll remain a nonsensical oddity for us to wonder about.
