(avg. key price) / (avg. key-ref exchange) = (avg. refined metal price)
Since the latest key price suggestion was accepted: http://backpack.tf/vote/id/5148cdbeba2536916500000b
Using a generous key price average (USD $1.35) and the low-end key-ref price, refined metal is currently valued at the most USD$.33-.34.
(Keep in mind using a realistic key price of $1.25-1.30 and exchange at 4.33 ref, the 'actual' price is closer to $0.29, but I will err on the side of caution for this suggestion)
See: http://forums.backpack.tf/index.php?/topic/264-key-prices-in-usd/#entry3437 and the last refined suggestion for rationale: http://backpack.tf/vote/id/514381894bd7b8af36000004
Until the site is fixed to do these calculations automatically, it is required to suggest a new refined metal price each time an increase of key-ref is accepted, in order to correctly value everyone's backpack in USD.
we don't base it off key:metal ratios. we base it off what people are buying and selling refined for in the paypal market. Intuition would tell you they are equal, but the economy isn't perfect.
Unfortunately you provide no proof. You do have logic, but if you stick around a bit you'll see that logic rarely paralells these trade suggestions.
This game's market is going to crash at this rate if this keeps up. refined has lost near 1/4 its value in the last month....
logic rarely paralell with the people acting in the market. the suggestions here parallel with the market just fine. I'm intrigued to hear what your explanation of a "crash" in the tf2 economy would be.
Obviously they don't or else a suggestion like this would pass. What you said doesn't make any sense. Sometimes it would make sense for things to rise, and they don't and vice versa. I'm saying logic and what happens in the TF2 market don't always go together. You seem to be picking at words.
I was saying the price on backpack.tf is usually accurate, and it is the traders (buying refined at too high a price) that are illogical. Perhaps we're saying the same thing and I was confused by the wording.
true. It would get rid of the people who are only involved for the trading/profit rather than making their characters look pretty. I wonder what the trading community would be like without them.
The actual formula is:
KR=M
Where:
4.11 as median key price. (K)
$.35 as average Refined metal price. (R)
.35 X 4.11 = $1.45 (M) = The current price of keys.
Your logic has a slight flaw. I won't say it's bad (It makes sense that refined or keys need to go down in price.) but do a little more research (and proof).
Key sell for around $1.25-$1.35 nowadays, not $1.45. If you know anyone buying for that much, lemme know!
I was refering to the people who sell them on TF2 Outpost, but now that I think of it, they're probably high-balling.
Carded keys are all over the market and no one buys that cheap keys anymore. (Unless you want to risk getting flagged by Valve)
Your argument is invalid, and your knowledge of the cash market is weak.
Carded keys? Please do inform.
I strongly disagree. I am selling keys for $1.25 to a friend, and a reputable trader. People on Source OP pay $1.29 per key (1 Euro). I did not make an argument, merely a statement. Insulting my knowledge of the cash market is a personal attack and as such a logical fallacy; if you disagree with my statement, prove me wrong.
Carded keys? Please do inform.
Keys bought by (surprise-surprise) Russians with stolen credit cards, using the Mann Co. Store to launder the stolen money and selling the keys on Paypal for a considerably lower price than average.
I honestly don't see the risk involved in actually having one of those keys, but some people (like AcesGamer) said that bans have been handed out to those who purchase said keys. Didn't see many sources on it though.
no way the buyers could figure out such scamm involved, cant ban someone for that...
If you want a simple example. Long218. Backpack.tf top contributor recently bought carded keys ( accident or not) and is possibly getting marked, but did get a trade ban from Valve.
http://imgur.com/a/4Ufv7
Not only did Long218 admit to buying carded keys, he KNOWINGLY did so, admitted he was storing the keys in an alt, AND suggested it to another player.
Whether or not he was sarcastic (which I strongly doubt), you don't joke about that shit.
since i cant see proofs of the actual cash trades that is taking place auto valuing refined to keys usd and vise versa is a legit way to suggest a price in my opinion.
i cant imagine something more efficient.
No offence but I think you're a bit too "new" to lower the price of such a crucial item. Just my insight though.
You're judging my suggestion on what, exactly, then? Did you even read what I posted?
still need proof
Which was the thing I was judging it on. Don't wanna start a debate so that's it.
Idiotic to think one has to be experienced to get important stuff accepted
But, one must agree proof to be shown. Have you checked ref buyers?
Being new doesn't make much of a difference. If you wanted to lower the key prices to .33, and this was your first suggestion, with sufficient proof, you could bring it down.
Unfortunately, Refined-Key-Bud USD do not align nicely alongside their item to item trading ratios. Refined must be priced based on what it is actually selling for in USD. Key and Bud USDs will have to remain high until the site allows for their prices to be properly accomodated.
The question is: until the site is updated to fix these issues, is it better to correctly value backpacks in USD, or to get the Paypal market rate correct?
You need actual proof, not theoretical conjecturing.
The old backpack.tf was better when they still use keys price instead or refined price to evaluate backpack value.
TF2's Economy is really bad right now , and you are making it worse
needs proof. critical role in backpack.tf suggestions.
I've still been buying mine for 32 cents. Seems like whatever the price there are people on SOP willing to undersell everyone by a nickel.
Links to those sellers would be good.
same thing is going in the market.. nickel by nickel..
NO. No Proof, DOWNVOTED.
That logic never works.No proof?
Easy downvote.
Taking a look at sourceop it's easy to see that nearly all the refined trades are happening at $0.35. However, there are some trade to be found (about 1 out of 20) where someone is selling refined for $0.33/0.44. There are also handfuls of people looking to get $0.38-$0.40. $0.35 seems like the right price for now.
Srsly i dont give a fuck what keys are worth if you keep putting the keys up ref will go down and its an endless cycle JUST STOP THIS SHIT AND KEEP IT AS IS. fucking hell a 14 year old need to tell you this shiz
y u mad tho
A fourteen year old who cannot spell properly, nor can he use proper punctuation. People are buying keys for higher and are still buying keys for higher with or without the "help" of what the current backpack.tf price is on the price list. Using curse words and caps do not further your point in any manner and, on the contrary, makes many from taking you quote: 'srsly'.
Shiz, Baloo tellin' it like it be.
no proof, downvote
Honestly the price is generally correct, but the fact of the matter is that proof is needed. If there was solid proof I would see no reason to lower ref by a cent or two.
no one wants metal... ill give you a key for 100ref :D
Who gives a shit, just leave a price of something at ONE PRICE. for at least a month not every week..
He's probably just trying to balance the key price with the refined price. Keys are actually worth $1.25 - $1.35 and with the current key price at 4.22 ref, thats like $1.44.
I agree with you dude, But there are so many idi*ts Who wants to make ''REP'' Or Points making suggestions...
While you have logic, you have no actual proof. Downvoted.
Come back with proof that 35 cents doesnt sell and people actually go down to .33-.34
