Maybe people get angry because they can change (through this site) the real value of money. Personally I think totally wrong to consider key as money instead ref. If you change key price you messed up a lot of item prices. (sorry, english isnt my born language).

And I have to add: there is not accuracy (or realistic range) if you are basing tf2finance as reference, you cannot change your reflection through the mirror (you have to change yourself). TF2finance says in a large scale how much people are selling keys (again, in a "large scale"). It includes those are selling for 2refs-6refs. Its only a reference. Theres no accuracy. If you are rich maybe keys isnt a problem for you.. but it is for mostly.

Carded keys are keys that were bought off either the Steam Market or directly from the source (Mann Co) using stolen credit card information. As soon as the keys are purchased, they are sold immediately through Paypal or Steam Wallet for cash or through Outpost for Earbuds, Bills and other promos. They pocket any profit off of the transaction, and sometimes, you don't know if you yourself have any in your backpack.

What Long218 did was buying the aforementioned keys even with the knowledge going in that the keys he was purchasing were carded. Of course, admitting to storing them in an alt to try and hide them from being removed by Valve, AND encouraging another user to seek out carded keys and hide them in an alt to avoid detection, does nothing but worsen the offense

Allow me to explain why people have lost their patience with Long218.

Long has a very checkered past, both on this site and off.

On this site, he has been given tons of warnings from the admins, and his overall mannerisms with keys has been rude to say in the least. He was banned during Christmas for using his alt for posting a troll suggestion for Earbuds (0.22-0.44 reclaimed). He has the infamous notion of having been the first person whose price suggestion was issued a warning because he named himself Key Manipulator. One of the things he has said is that he wants to make refined "worthless" and associates refined as poor people currency, in his opinions.

He is permanently banned from trading, due to his admission of knowingly buying carded keys, admitting to storing them on his alt, and suggesting the process to another user.

His SourceOp link on his profile reveals he has been banned due to this, and the last person on page five of his thread is also banned from SourceOp, and is marked on Steamrep as a known key carder.

Just a note on the Reddit ban, it was there in place before that, for attempting to sell an Unusual that he knew was likely hijacked, and was told not to; he then tried to continue selling it, and after a ban, tried to use alts to circumvent it.

I have kinda wondered about one thing. Now, granted, keys prices are going up, I do not mind that. I play the game, fun and such, you know, TF2. But the point is, I have been wondering about how the key prices could decrease?

The only thing I could come up with, was if Valve had a key sale week or something, so the key would be on sale, meaning the key prices would also drop, but that's about it.

Just wondering about it, so please, educate me about it. I would love to know. :)

As far as I can tell - keys aren't going up; metal is going down.

So while a key sale would help, what would also help is if valve came up with some better use for metal. Whether that be that one out of a million hats crafted is unusual, or what - I don't know. That's for valve to figure out I guess.

You might consider the fact that people will just give up trying to buy keys and supply and demand will just kick in.

This is actually ridonculous. I don't understand why people are in love with keys. I agree that nobody wants metal, but nobody us unboxing with keys anymore. I remember if one would go on a trade server for an hour, at least 3 keys would be spent unboxing. That's when keys were 2.33 each. I also agree that valve needs to make a new purpose for having metal, and someone said that there should be a puny chance of crafting an unsusual, which would be pretty sweet. But seriously the last suggestion had a score of -156 and got accepted... o_O does anyone else find that weird at all? I mean a 40% yes vote and 60% no vote should not be accepted. BPTF seemed like it used to be more of a democracy, and is now rued by aristocrats who use their accepting powers too much.

Valve would never implement the small chance of crafting unusuals. It's very simple... The only way to get unusuals is to open a crate. How does one do this? With a key. Where does this key come from? The mann co store. Where do the profits from the mann co store go? Valve. Creating another way to get unusuals would be counter-intuitive.

This is all legit proof, but i feel that all of it is just swaps between idiots trying to "make profit" see diagram: Trader1 = T1, Trader 2 = T2, Trader 3 = T3- T1 has key, buys it for 4 ref, sells for 4.11 to T2. T2 thinks he can take the key and "make profit" and sell it for 4.22, and he does to T3. By this time the key 'list price' has risen on bp.tf and T3 thinks he is getting a good deal since the keys are rising infinitely, He then proceeds to sell his key for 4.33 to T1, who now repeats it

Seeing he has a buttload of keys, he can always sell a few for an even higher price, increase the price on backpack.tf, sell more keys, increase, etc.

The bulk of the 4.88 ref buyers are still buying, establishing the high point and demonstrating they aren't overpaying. Some people that are buying for a little higher yet. No counterproof through the entire suggestion.

In my personal opinion, this should have been the accepted price two suggestions ago. Negative votes, but the proof stands. Accepting.
