What in the name of all that is holy is .9 key?
I accepted that the ugly ranges .2 .4 .6 .8 are respectively 1, 2, 3 and 4 ref. But .9 is 4 ref, 1 rec, 1 rec, 1 scrap, 1 weapon. Nobody pays like that. The mods either need to accept a metal suggestion for this (which they shouldn't, almost all trades happen in keys) or make a normal range
Only like 5% of the trades happen under a key. Those who are under a key sell very quickly, thus making them quicksells.
I'm quoting from the rules here : Invalid proof examples ...
Quickbuyer or quickseller trades (people who are buying or selling substantially below market price, either to make profit to get rid of an item).
Now let's take a look at cleverpun's sellers < 1 key.
His own buy trade
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/10580072
NO adds in 3 days, on autobump
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/10568889
his sell trade, sold all (at least 8) at 4.77 within a day, meaning they sold quickly.
(he has 2 left, one new.
http://backpack.tf/classifieds/search/5042/6/0
NONE of the sellers <1 key have been online recently (8 hours, 23 hours)
Also, the key price changed since they listed it there, and they fell within the last key price, meaning they sold at 1 key in metal, now key price changed and they didn't change classifieds
http://bazaar.tf/trade/191336
cleverpun's seller at 4.66, but he changed to 4.88. He just goes with the key value here, and at the time 4.66 WAS a key.
These all are BUYERS at 1 key

http://postimg.org/image/3lsd4n3h9/ also sold one for a s. flare gun, with crits and posthumous kills, then sold a regular s. flaregun for a key + rec and gonna keep this one for use.

i'm with you mate i downvoted the other suggest price and i lose reputation D:
yeah, .9 key doesn't excist. Maybe if he listed it in metal, but they still were quicksells
how dafuq did the other one get accepted? o,o
that's what I was wondering, I downvoted with all my heart, and said I'd resubmit at 1.
Before cleverpun starts raging and warning all comments (he did that somewhere, can't seem to find it)
yeah, i found it, but was on a different suggestion
http://backpack.tf/vote/id/5189f9164bd7b82a5c00000e#5189fa21ba2536a67400000d_row
upvote, anyhow
thanks, but I saw it on yet another suggestion, he seems to be doing that more these days.
Under the new website rules comments without content are spam, and spam is a warnable offense.
i'm sorry, but if someone makes a suggestion like that, they kinda deserve to be ridiculed
Or they need to be taught how to use the site better.
Even if they are a troll (see Hanlon's Razor) hostility and vapid responses are not an appropriate response, because that's exactly what they want
I once told the suggester to provide proof, or "downvote train inbound"
Got warned by that, by cleverpun to be exact. Oh well.
I was just trying to sell the guy to provide proof, or else he'd get LOADS of downvotes (-rep...)
I highly respect that you are trying to teach people to be more polite , but I think you are taking this too far.
Was he trolling? that's abusing anyway
who?
Cleverpun on the Bill's hat suggestion. Warn and hide every comment?
ahh yeah, sorry, I kinda forgot what we were talking about.
sorry - not enough content in the above comment. warning
o.O :D
some of the comments in there are hilarious. lol,
http://puu.sh/2PwNL.png You seemed to have missed this.
I did not miss that, however cleverpun warned a bit too many people. The suggestion was utter shit, so it wasn't needed to take serious. The first admin to come online would have closed it, however cleverpun made 20+ warnings to people. Some of them were correct, as "lol free rep" shouters are really annoying, BUT some of them (samson, loga jake, pk blaze, and tuco) were actually commenting seriously on the suggestion. I think they did not need to be warned. THat's why I said he went out of hand, the warnings on the annoying guys like kingofhopping and philliphuang were quite right.
Add him and tell him that. Ranting about him looking like a tough guy will solve nothing. I'm sure he'll be more than welcome. If you have a problem about any of our methods or comments, then discuss it with us.
Look man, I'm not trying to look like a tough guy. I'm a little whimp, and I'm aware of that. Maybe this solves nothing, and as this is none of my comments so I don't feellike I need to add him. You may recall I added you once to ask why you warned me, and if one of you guys warns me without me seeing a good reason for it, I'll add the mod who does so and discuss it with him. After seeing your point of view I agreed to the warning you gave me, but that was as it might have insulted somebody. And I'm pretty sure I'm discussing some of my problems right here, right now, with you.
You spelled 'wimp" wrong
But everyone does that all the time and doesnt get warned and stuff
Mods making decisions on things mods suggest?
how did the other one get accepted? the proof was bad.
upvote
The thing is. I buy atleast 10 Hats per-day For 1.22. if cleverpuns logic is right. we should all make craft hats 1.22-1.33 range.
And no one would want that. Neither i.
her logic will make it 1-1,22, because 'people shouldn't be ripped off'.
oh wait, since she love stupid ranges, it will be 0,2-0,3 keys
wouldn't it become 0.02 -0.03 buds? Didn't do the math, so my values might be wrong, but you get the idea
It should be like "OH HEYAH IM SELLING A S.HOMEWRECKER FOR 0.000001 BURNING TEAM CAPTAINS!! ADD ME FOR THE PRICE!!!
http://backpack.tf/vote/id/50b0575fba2536192b00001f.
Craft hats are a different case; since there are numerous buyers for 1.33 we need to inform sellers they can get at least that for them.
Ohh cleverpun. You're totally speaking yourself away her. there are also numerous buyers with buying trades for 1 key, so we should inform sellers they can get at least that for their item. Sorry but you just totally talked yourself into a dead end street.
As I pointed out below all your 1 key buyer links are invalid; they were successful in a very short time frame and are no longer buying wrap.
your buying links for below a key were also invalid as i pointed out in this suggestion and your in suggestion
Why? Very simple. Because most people just want ONE wrap to wrap their item with. You don't need three wraps to wrap one Voodoo Juju. Craft hats a different in a sense because people who buy for 1.22/1.33 are prob gonna be crafting them, and will need multiple hence the trades stay open. By the reasoning of "The trade happened quickly" people should struggle to get wrap for a key...
yay, you've done this as promised, before Long =) upvote, mate, easiest upvote
As I said in my suggestion, all your 1 key buyers bought one immediately, within a single bump. The "unsuccessful" buyer for a key - 1 rec was successful. The unsuccessful buyer for 4.66 hasn't bumped their trade in 20 hours.
And as stated elsewhere, .2 keys = 1 ref
And .1 key is? I could accept an .8 range, but .9 just is comolete nonsense.
surely 0.9 of a key is 4.5 ref?
but admittedly it looks quite silly
Dat range is enough for an automatic upvote from me.
And for the record i do think alot of admins lately have been making mistakes, silly ranges like this one or not going through obvious counterproof (veil dropped to like 3.66 refs with crap of counterproof. The next day counterproof was just used as a suggestion...same with the g. awperhand)
General reminder, it's a price guideline meaning people will be selling a little more or a little less no point including it in some silly range, or just change the currency to metal >_>
0.9-1 is a stupid range

.8-1 (4 refined - 5 refined) was too low. But .9-1 is alright
Captain obvious note: 1 key is still in range
wtf, it that even a reason? or even counter proof? It more looks like an admin chucking the backpack.tf rules in trash just to help his colleague.
well the one 4.66 seller already sold out in like 10 hours, and he had many. the seller at key-scrap isn't .9 key, it's more like .98 key, and we're not going that pathetic. there's one seller for 4.66 out there who still has it. One seller is not the market
and this was cleverpun's proof:
i looked through the trades when the suggestion was up and found this, no idea why it got accepted
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/10496873 no gift wrap in backpack
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/10306585 bought one 5 days ago, no further interest in his trade

gift wraps he has now are from selling unusual hard counter to this guy: http://www.tf2outpost.com/backpack/55523

yeah, thanks but I explained how these links failed in my original proof (that's probably too long for the internet to read)
The admins are just making a mockery of themselves.
yes they are lately, though mostly cleverpun (warning way too often + this pushing on the gift wrap) and chief shoe (his raging and ignoring of long. Long isn't the nicest one some times, but he's supposed to be an authority, and stand above that level.)

That .9 key suggestion actually got accepted? LOL
I did buy a couple gift wrap yesterday for 4.66 each. While most trades do occur at a key, there was enough proof that they were sold for less than a key to convince me to upvote the last suggestion. I know it's not legit proof, but the WH also sells wrap for 2k less than a key.
However, you do have several buyer links at a key flat, which makes the argument of this suggestion rather convincing. I think I'm actually going to stay neutral for this one.
there was no where near enough proof for .9 It's a stupid range, he had like 5 proofs of under a key, some of which were >.9 (.98, .96) and most were sold very quickly. Very maybe a price under a key is needed, but let it be in refs than. Even the .8-1 was acceptable (well the suggestion wasn't, it showed only some quicksells, but at least .8 key is something (4 ref, stupid high key prices, I liked working with the .25, .5, .75 a lot better))
can't we go at least a day without a gift wrap suggestion? #savethetf2giftwrap /s
sure we can, if the admin's wouldn't TWICE accept a suggestion based on a few quicksells. They just accepted it because it was made by an admin I think. If it stays at 1 key, nobody (accept cleverpun, the one who's messing with the prices here) will care.
yeah, I was just makin a key suggestion joke. I have no issues with this suggestion.
I thought you were, but I took you serious anyway. Because IF you were serious, I just wanted to make sure you wouldn't live in a delusion
Yes, because obviously the admins automatically accept each others suggestions. /sarcasm

No they don't automatically, but a suggestion from long/hugh jazz/admin/baloo/peasant will get accepted more easily (i'm not saying more, I'm saying more easily than one by a white belt user. It's bot your fault, but you trust they make good suggestions, and will automatically be less critical to their proof. This is just human psychology, nothing to do with you personally.
oh and, just saying, you provided nearly no change on the safe 'n sound, the gift wrap was just quicksells like your other 2 suggestions and the other one I actually think SHOULD have passed.
wait...you wanted to make gift wraps 4-4.33 ref?
inb4 closed by cleverpun
Upvote. I see no reason for the range.
For the record, I approve of this.
great, if cleverpun closes this I'm seriously losing my faith in him as an admin. I really hope he keeps his dignity and won't rage out here. I think this is a tough case for you admins too. But everything under a key REALLY is a quicksell, so either you should edit the rules, where it says quicksells are NOT allowed, or you shouldn't accept suggestions based on quicksell. (The you here is not you, mr bucket, but the group of admins here. This is one of the few flaws of the English language, both plural and singular forms are you.)
Edit, if you want, you might accept this suggestion in some time. hehe.
I already accepted long's counter-suggestion to the 0.8-1 keys, but cleverpun resubmitted 0.9-1
and I re re submitted 1
next one from cleverpun would be either 0.85 -1 or 0.95 -1 perhaps :p
well, or .02-.021 buds or something like that. That range even makes more sense than .9-1
or, 0.93-1
0.81-1
I don't moderate suggestions that I've created counter-suggestions for, and I try not to moderate the same item twice in a row.
Please don't insult me by assuming I'd be that petty.
I never did insult you in that way, and if I did I'm sorry, but I never meant to. I was talking about your 2 suggestions, which according to me were utter shit, but you kept pushing them on. that's what i was talking about. it waan't meant as an insult, it was meant as advice and critics. If I ofended you, or anyone, I'm sorry.
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/10382093
not succesful for a week at .9
.9 is 4.5 ref not 4.33; that link is below current range. Plus they have 3 wraps in their pack
.9 is bloody nothing, just accept it. I'm sorry if I posted a link at .84 keys, but as .9 just does NOT EXCIST, how could I find links at it. That's like saying a hat should be worth 1.35 It's an imaginary number which stands for bloody nothing. If we do the math completely correctly, a key is now 5.05 ref. .9*5.05 is 4.53. Nothing in the world sells for 4.53 ref, it really doesn't.
4.55 ref is a commonly used price for all sorts of things. 4.5 is less common but doable if you use weapons.
Gift wrap sells so often for one key that putting the range in ref would've been just as inaccurate as leaving it at one key flat, and Sir Jon correctly closed my suggestion that was in ref
Yes, he correctly closed your suggestion in ref, as it wasn't correct. I never said it SHOULD be in ref, I just said it should NOT be at .9 key, as that's just plain bonkerous.
Cleverpun, Y u no give up?
I think the fact it got accepted has to do with the fact everyone upvoted it for being made by a mod. Backpack.tf does not reflect quickbuy/quicksells so the range suggested by cleverpun was inaccurate in the fact he's quickbuying, and using that as proof. So many sales at a key there's no way his several purchases outweigh the vast majority that can successfully sell at 1 key.
TL;DR: 1 key was still in the range, obviously, but so obvious that .9 is a quickbuying price.
Here's mine:
Sold for Lumbricious Lid (1.5-1.75 keys at time, now 1.5 keys)
Sold for G purity Fist + Tough Stuff Muffs (1.32 keys)
Sold 2 for 1 key each
Sold 1 for 1 key + 1 rec
All within 45 mins of each other: http://imgur.com/a/LnhaT
thank you, but you used that as counterproof on cleverpun's suggestion. I just copied all of that and pasted it here. Thanks anyways.
Just got back from speech class and was going to do this.
I think this should be accepted and cleverpun should realize that this is a more general range and that .9 is ridiculous.
Yes he should, and I think this should get accepted (kinda obvious, I suggested it, but still)
Admins are human too, and we can make mistakes. No need to go judgmental on us, we have feelings you know *sniff*
http://backpack.tf/classifieds/search/5042/6/0 - a few here selling for a bit less than a key, one of which is cleverpun's.
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/10323651 - buying at 4.33, a ton of adds
Cleverpun's reasoning was that it is possible to get these for slightly less than a key, which is why the price shouldn't be one key flat. While there are buyers for 1 key, they are mostly just looking for one wrap, for the purpose of using them. Gift wrap re-sellers like himself and others are able to sell for a key, and in order to make it worthwhile, it must mean they are able to buy for slightly less than a key. Thus, he thought a ranged price would be best.
So he's buying quicksells and reselling them at the highest range price?
I've never liked the term "quicksell." Just what makes something a quicksell? Is it selling for 50% the base price? Is it selling for slightly lower than what other sell for? Is it being able to sell really fast for less than the majority price? At what point in time does a "quicksell" become part of the non-quicksell market value?
I'm just suggesting the possibility that, since there are so many sellers at 1 key, and it is safe to assume they did not buy from the store directly, that most of the big wrap sellers have to buy from someone for less than one key. This is what I believe cleverpun's logic behind suggesting a ranged price was.
That logic of cleverpun can be used anywhere where most of the price suggestions are declined. There are trillions of traders who buy cheap stuff and then sell for huge or small profit. According to that theory every item should have a wide price range because whoever is selling an item then must have bought it for cheap somewhere. Therefore all the prices of items on backpack.tf are inaccurate because it does not account that someone must have bought those items cheap and does not show that price.
Well yes, that would be a valid counterargument.
Still though, what constitutes quicksell versus market advantage? For example, if I sell a burning TC for 30 buds, that would undoubtedly be a quicksell. However, if I sell a normal TC for 4.66 ref, is that a quicksell, or is that me trying to have competitive prices?
That is exactly what you admins have to figure out collectively and post a rule outlining everything clearly.
Each one you have been sailing on a different boat thus leaving the whole system in disarray.
100% the same can be done with craft hats. Many many people buy for under 1.33, but that's not the price. Neither should it be on giftsraps. These things are exactly the same, except that way more people succesfully buyfor under 1.33 If you're saying hats are different, please enlighten me how and why. Of course mods can make mistakes, errare humane est, but I can point out that they did, as ii amd doing right here right now.
Umm... I didn't say craft hats are different. For me personally, I will buy any craftable hat at 1.33. People who sell for less are missing out, especially when there are always ready buyers at 1.33 ref. Based on the buyers you've shown, they've all finished buying for 1 key, and have since closed their trades. There's no scrap.tf-esque feature where someone will instantly and always buy for a key.
In regard to your suggestion, I don't think it's bad at all.
Please do not give that "ton of adds", if you are going to use that (quick buyers) then we can bombard our suggestions with quick-buyers too. If you guys have made a rule then better stick to it.
Well "Thus, he thought a ranged price would be best. " he already had got his range of 0.8-1 key accepted, which was countered by 1 key from long which got accepted again. Then y does he had to introduce 0.9-1 key when his range of 0.8 got accepted? It was proved that sellers are successfully selling wraps for 1 key then y an immediate response (suggestion) to the 1 key corrected range? That is called ego mate.
Read above. This term "quickbuyer" is much too undefined for my liking. Also, I haven't stated my opinion on what the price should be, but I'm arguing for why cleverpun did what he did.
Ok, long and some other people say clevers a girl, but u say clevers a guy. is she/he a guy or girl?
what if she's not?
We're straying off topic now, these are warnable offenses. http://backpack.tf/vote?showrules=1
um....so if for example, i post a suggestion that is defiantly going to pass and i'm bored, I can't start a conversation with someone about basketball or abortion or osama?
In response to your other question, please keep unrelated things in the forums or in forum chat. This rule was put in place so that people won't say things like "free rep downvote" or a large amount of spam that buries actual proof for or against said suggestion.
errhrmmm...it seems like the admins have been making a lot of mistakes lately
Look at pudding's proof. Now look at your proof. Now look at other users' proof. Now look at your proof. Difference, huh?
I think the point clever and I were trying to make is that the market is so clogged up with 1 key sellers, that its becoming harder and harder to sell for 1 key and easier and easier to buy for 4.33 or 4.66. I have spent weeks selling wraps + scrap for 1 key, I only sell one every 3 or 4 days.
I found ~52 key sellers in the first 6 pages, extrapolate that to 19 pages (and subtract 20% just to be conservative) and you get Almost 125 traders selling gift wrap! about half of them with many still in stock
Mate there are heaps of people selling heaps of things on heaps of pages, which in-turn is used by heaps of traders to post heaps of suggestions which seldom meet heaps of criticism and if heaps of people were just to say that there are heaps of sellers on heaps of pages which could be extrapolated to heaps of pages and the resultant is again heaps of traders; then heaps of suggestions which were declined by backpack.tf admins should have been heaps successful.
check Bill's sellers for 8 keys on outpost and approve price decrease for it then? Maybe 7,9-8 keys range?
Leave Bill's alone mate, many have their souls bound to them
Bill's is a sacred item, doesn't really mater who has bought how many and for what price. </bonkers>
ikr, i just show how his point works
I think 0.85-1 key will be better range
0.85 x 5.11 = 4.3435. How is anyone supposed to pay that?
I don't like the idea of using 0.9 keys. Part of being a price guide is having prices users can readily understand. 0.9 keys is rather meaningless upfront.
If gift wrap is reaching the point where 1-2 reclaimed makes a significant difference, maybe it's time to turn its price into refined?
I disagree. Gift wrap is most often traded in keys, putting it in refined wouldnt make much sense.
A fair point. Even if it does turn out it's at the point where it's transitioning, repricing in refined before it's become an item more commonly traded in refined would be premature.
I agree with Mr. Bucket. It would throw the items which have their costs associated with a gift wrap into total disarray.
People have been happy to pay a key for a gift wrap, if some one chooses to sell it quick to just have a quick sale then let it be, but if 100 out of 150 sellers do that then its a reportable price.
I think it isn't a key anymore because key's price has risen but Gift Wrap's value is the same. I think it must be 4.66-5 refined.
keys haven risen at all it has been 2.5$ from steam (only way to get it) and it always will be 2.5$ it's that metal has been losing it's value since alot of idlers and new players have made a massive inflow of metal/demand for keys. Making it cost more to buy keys but since keys have the same value it means that metal is losing value.

Items in the currency of keys usually stay that way because the price of keys only increases by a small amount over a few days.
The last accepted AWPer Hand suggestion to 1 key was actually meant to LOWER the price, but it ended up raising it instead :P (http://backpack.tf/vote/id/514e0f8b4bd7b8e75300000c)
absolutly agree, selling those for key daily

The price ranges I see on this are laughable
I think I've got a new record, most admins on a single suggestion. I've currently got:
Cleverpun, Chief Shoe, Mr. Bucket, shenanigans, a distinctive lack of vincent, sir jjon warrior of redwall. That's 6 out of all 9 admins here, I only miss Soundtrack, Brad pitt himself and Michael Puddington. Somebody with a better record, please send me the link.
Lol how can they have 6 of the possible admins on this suggestion and still havent made a stupid decision on this suggestion?!
It's like having key suggestions open for a week and by the time it's accepted it's already old...
btw totally agree on the silly price range, either close the suggestion or change the currency to metal, what the hell is 0.9 keys?!?!?!...
yes it is a bit weird, but with so much contradiction (cleverpun, long, cleverpun again and now me within a week), they need some time to think about this. I think I receive more + than - votes, so they are free to keep this open for a week. The longer they keep it open, the more rep I get. It's as easy as that.
It's a price guideline people will be selling +- 1 key, it's no point including the smaller changes in my opinion. If it did matter that much simply change to a more easier to convey currency.
Don't even need to look at proof for this one. 0.9 key is about the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
I'm no fan of .9 of a key or the last suggestion.... and I believe in buying them for a key.... butttt....

Clever pun is in there somewhere.
Good proof and logic.
If 100 people sell for one key and 5 sell for 0.9 and 5 sell for 1.1 why would you have a range like that at all. You don't have a range for the oddities. People sell unpainted bills for 7-9 keys, there's no range for that? If 50 people start selling for 0.9, then you've got yourself a point!
are we really going to keep doing this? There are people selling for under a key so it should be reflected in the price. Sure it isn't a very nice price range but the fact remains that there are sellers under a key. Although I think the range of .8-1 was better some people just couldn't leave it alone... but either way its ridiculous to keep suggesting it down and then back up.
but there are also people succesfully selling for over a key, shouldnt that be reflected in the price too?

READ THIS:
According to http://forums.backpack.tf/index.php?/topic/792-how-to-make-a-good-suggestion-bullet-points-version/
(written by cleverpun, no less)
"Quickbuyers buy to resell; they are rarely good evidence for a price decrease"
Why were profit traders used as evidence in the last suggestion?
"Trades will happen outside the range we list (in both directions) no matter what. All prices in our range, however, should be relatively easy for the average trader to obtain."
Of course some trades will happen slightly below market price, it's a big community.
"Steam market prices generally are not reliable proof; Steam wallet funds are worth less than paypal funds."
Look at the last sentence in his proof (http://backpack.tf/vote/id/518652ab4bd7b8845500001b)
"Provide multiple links of proof: one trade does not represent the entire market."
760 links (19 pgs x 20 links/pg)x2 (buyers and sellers) and he had ~10 links of proof.
1 key is much more representative of the whole market even if it's already in the range.
Definitely Upvoting this suggestion.

lol its really easy to sell at 1 key... I dont even have to make a trade or anything just search for a buyer for 1 key and its just EASY.
upvote :/
"Gift wrap re-sellers like HIMSELF and others are able to sell for a key, and in order to make it worthwhile, it must mean they are able to buy for slightly less than a key. Thus, he thought a ranged price would be best. "
I think it is morally very, very wrong that a moderator who actively makes quicksell trades makes a suggestion on said item.
I know there are a lot of items, and there arent enough people making suggestions. (Although, all the more reason to concentrate on other items, rather than make a row of suggestions for same item)
But if moderator makes Suggestion, and then other moderator Passes it. That gives Huge control over the market for a small group of people.
To me it looks blatantly clear, that the group that makes the decisions on what suggestions pass, shouldnt be making the suggestions.
AND, NO. I'm not saying it happens on this item. I'm saying that possibility should be ruled out altogether.
Also, I've sold all my wraps (meager 2) for 1 key, and yes you can obviously buy them below 1 key. But what the heck is 0,9 key? Is it impossible to have Ref And Key price? Say 4,66 ref - 1 key.
As the site stands, the low and high ranges must be the same currency. One can't set the low range in one currency and the high range in a different one.
I'm kinda late to get to all this. I'm just gonna echo everybody else by saying what the hell is .9 of a key? Upvoting this for sure.
Differing opinions on this one, but between the vote difference (77% positive here vs. 62% positive for 0.9-1) and the general concensus within the comments, it's clear the community prefers the pricing of 1 key. While gift wraps do undeniably sell for slightly less, 0.9 keys is not an appropriate pricing, gift wraps aren't selling low enough for a usable pricing of 0.8-1 keys, and refined pricings aren't appropriate at this time. It appears best to keep the price as 1 key until either the price differences on the gift wrap are sufficient for a 0.2 difference in key range or if/when the key outpaces it and people more regularly sell it in refined.
Accepting.
