RESUGGESTING FOR ACCURACY IN KEY PRICES - changed high end, since keys ≈ 5.44 ref.
The reason why I'm doing this is because the 5-5.33 suggestion is right, but these are also abundant at 4.88, sometimes lower in the event of a quicksell.

Some proof thanks to Phanatic and Seanxprt
Q: It's way easier to price in keys, why don't we keep 0.9-1 keys as the range?
A: No, it's not. Pricing in metal is far better than pricing in keys, for the following reasons:
-Pricing at "0.9-1 keys" leaves people wondering how much 0.1 keys is in metal, which is a misinterpretation
-Pricing at "0.9-1 keys" can cause people to misinterpret 0.9 keys as either 5 ref or 4.88
-Pricing in keys doesn't work as a quick reference, people need to know what "0.9 keys" is in metal at a glance
And, most importantly:
Pricing in METAL allows accuracy down to every 0.11 ref. Pricing in KEYS only permits accuracy down to every 1/10th of a key, or 0.55 ref. You can't suggest a price at 1.87 keys; you'd need to round up to 1.9 keys, and that's just inaccurate.
Not saying I know what our friend Jym was thinking when he made the suggestion at 0.9-1 keys, but I believe he was valuing 0.9 keys as 5 ref since 5/5.44 = 0.9. And I would imagine that your proof of sellers at 0.9 keys would really be people intending to sell it for 5 ref (4.88 is just awkward).
But I guess enough people took that literally and started to sell for 4.88? Either way, I just don't like ranges that inhibit easy transactions. Who would want to pay or sell an item for 4.88. So annoying to get that kind of change.
My proof of sellers is not people intending to sell for 5 ref; 0.9*5.44 = 4.88. Therefore, 0.9 keys ≈ 4.88.
>But I guess enough people took that literally and started to sell for 4.88? Either way, I just don't like ranges that inhibit easy transactions. Who would want to pay or sell an item for 4.88. So annoying to get that kind of change.
What people want to buy or sell for has nothing to do with this. There are MANY items priced at 4.88. It's all about accuracy; pricing in metal is far more accurate than pricing in keys, since metal pricing permits accuracy down to 0.11 ref, but key pricing only permits accuracy down to every 0.1 keys (0.55 ref).
"There are MANY items priced at 4.88." Do you mind showing me one? I can't seem to find it.
0.88 as part of a price, I can see. 4.88 is just inconvenient. My opinion only. The website is designed to smoothen transactions. I agree that 0.9 keys is ambiguous. But I would prefer a range of 5-5.33. That's all.
I had just previously made a suggestion of 5.00-5.44 ref for the El Jefe and was going to make the same range for the awp, but was faced with enough opposition (saying that most sales happen in keys) that I switched it to keys. I just kinda lucked out that 0.9 keys was within a scrap of my intended low end.
While I agree that pricing in metal allows us to be more accurate, most sales do seem to involve a key and it will be hard to prove that this item's value no longer rises as keys rise.
For the love of God, stop with these AWPer hand suggestions. Seriously, this is fine as 0.9-1 key. If someone is trying to buy this thing at a cheap price, they should be able to look up what 0.9 keys is in ref.
You're counting on the fact that people aren't going to be lazy. Have fun.
0.9-1 key simply means that you can sell this for 1 key, but you can also buy it for a little bit less. That's all. Easy. Not pretty, but simple.
I meant that people aren't going to buy for 0.9 because they're too lazy to convert the price.
^ This - or they'll misinterpret 0.9, thinking it's 4.88 or 5 ref.
I have to agree I've always liked pricing in metal for the convenience of being accurate.
Agreed, metal pricing is accurate down to every scrap, key pricing, only down to every 0.55.
But trading with keys is more convenient than dragging five items over into the trade box thing whatever.
I was actually opposed to the 0.9-1 key suggestion partly because of that reason. I believed 1 key flat worked just fine, and some sellers will quicksell a bit lower than that. I was wrong and it passed, but the only way I can justify keeping it as a viable part of a range is that most people will take it as slightly less than 1 key, not whatever exact value 0.9 equals.
Why am I getting so many dislikes?
I'm not sure why you're getting so many dislikes. Maybe it was your AWPer hand suggestion?
Like I said in my previous post, there are many reasons why "0.9-1 keys" doesn't work.
-People are too lazy/hasty to look it up and are left wondering what the hell "0.9 keys" is in metal.
-At a glance, 0.9 keys could come across as either 4.88 or 5 ref. It's worth having the accuracy for a quick reference.
-It just doesn't sound good.
>You're counting on the fact that people aren't going to be lazy. Have fun.
Agreed - many people count on bp.tf as a quick reference, and that's the way it should be.
However, it's illogical to change the price to ref if the price continues to rise with key prices.
Changes in key prices have slowed to around one every week, some of those not even being accepted - therefore, it's probably going to stay valid for some time. And if not, assuming the GenAwp suggestions carry on at this pace, it'll be revalidated very soon afterward.
I think it's irresponsible for us to expect this to be accepted and then leave it to the community to re-update it every week. I think a range of .9-1 keys or .8-1 keys is the best option.
Like I already said, keys have been settling down lately, so not 'every week' - 0.9 keys, like I said, is inaccurate and can be misinterpreted very easily - 0.8 keys is just inaccurate. And due to the pricing system, we can't use 0.87 or whatever 4.88 ref is - it only allows tenths of a key, whereas if it has a price in metal, it's far more accurate.
I'm not making this suggestion so it can be updated every week, I'm updating it for accuracy.
I'm sorry for the monster I've created :P
This is why I was so opposed to your suggestions... If it already follows the price of a key, why change that? Since keys are already so volatile in their price, the price in refined already has a range in it. Well, it's near impossible to change it back to 1 key now.
Also, 5.44 ref ≠ 1 key.
Neither does 5.33 ref, nor 5.55 ref.
1 key = 1 key.
No, 5.44 ref = 1 key. The current range is 5.33-5.55, which averages out to 5.44. Trade.tf counts keys as 5.44. It has a pricing in metal too.
Some people value keys over ref, so actually no. Keys are keys and metal is metal. Trade.tf values items based on the prices on this site, which isn't 100% accurate.
It doesn't matter if people have a "preference" between the two - they're both viable and major currencies, and they can very easily be interchanged. There are even bots for that. Keys always have a pricing in metal, and vice versa.
However, the price of this item changes with the price of a key if you look at past suggestions. If you change this to ref, you will have a new suggestion every week.
Restating what I said in my other comment: key suggestions have slowed to around 1 every week, sometimes not even being accepted. This means the ref price of the GenAwp will stay valid for quite a while - and as you can already see, there are many people more than ready to resuggest the price for this item. Additionally, the fact that key suggestions have slowed down (been sitting at ~5.33-5.44 for quite a while) might mean that they're settling down for good.
This is like the 6th genuine awper suggestion in the last hour, calm down guys.
And like I've previously stated,
4.88 is not common.
the last 2 0.9 key trades sold extremely fast.
one of the 4.88 trades is unbumped.
another is quickselling.
Not enough proof for the low end.
with your price the suggestion gonna change every time like the key price ... i think 0.9-1 key is better but your suggestion is very good
too many sales happen at 1 key for it's currency to change :L
downvote
1 key is included in the range, and like I mentioned before, there are reasons why I'm making a suggestion with a different currency (leaves people wondering how much 0.9 keys is when pricechecking, doesn't work as a quick reference, and metal pricing is way more accurate than key pricing).
traded for a key 2 days ago: http://tinypic.com/r/2n00oia/5
leave the price as it is
That's nice. Do you not see where I included 1 key in the range?
Plus, yours is tagged.
hmmm i guess os.
There are way too many sales at 1 key to change the currency into refined.

Did you read any of the comments I posted earlier, specifically opposing this?
First of all, look at my proof. I'm using your counterproof as proof, because I included 1 key in the range. You're saying that it sells at 1 key, and I'm agreeing with you: it sells at 1 key, or 5.44 refined. Same thing. It doesn't matter whether the sale happens in refined or in keys: they are both perfectly viable and interchangeable currencies.
You're saying that it shouldn't be converted into refined. I'm saying that it should, because:
•Pricing at "0.9-1 keys" leaves people wondering how much 0.1 keys is in metal, which is a misinterpretation
•Pricing at "0.9-1 keys" can cause people to misinterpret 0.9 keys as either 5 ref or 4.88
•Pricing in keys doesn't work as a quick reference, people need to know what "0.9 keys" is in metal at a glance
•Pricing in METAL allows accuracy down to every 0.11 ref. Pricing in KEYS only permits accuracy down to every 1/10th of a key, or 0.55 ref. You can't suggest a price at 1.87 keys; you'd need to round up to 1.9 keys, and that's just inaccurate.
And for the last time: 1 key = 5.44 refined. They are the same thing. It doesn't matter if the sales happen at 1 key; 1 key is 5.44. Therefore, this is not valid counterproof.
It's hard to respect your opinion when you don't respect mine. Disliking comments won't get you anywhere.
From my experience on this website, sales at 1 key don't directly translate to refined. Think about it the other way. What if I tried making a suggestion for 1 key by only showing sales in refined. It is not the same thing.
1 key ≠ 5.44 refined. 1 key = 1 key. 5.44 refined = 5.44 refined.
I just sold a key for 5.66 refined by the way, so 1 key should not be valued as one specific amount of metal.
http://i.imgur.com/LuCAZB4.png
Edit: And yes I did read all of your comments and your whole proof, but I don't agree with it.
>It's hard to respect your opinion when you don't respect mine. Disliking comments won't get you anywhere.
It appears to me that you originally disliked my comment, but then changed your mind, opting instead for personal attacks in lieu of proper arguments.
>From my experience on this website, sales at 1 key don't directly translate to refined.
There is no proof behind this logic, only opinion.
>What if I tried making a suggestion for 1 key by only showing sales in refined. It is not the same thing.
If the item was selling for 1 key, then it's perfectly reasonable to suggest the price of 1 key, because people generally tend to know the price of keys off hand. If the item was selling for, say, 1-1.1 keys, on the other hand, then it would probably be a wise and well-acclaimed decision to suggest a price of 5.44-6 refined instead, because it's far simpler and more accurate.
>I just sold a key for 5.66 refined by the way, so 1 key should not be valued as one specific amount of metal.
And? That was a quickbuy trade, and it has nothing to do with my suggestion. If you think keys shouldn't be valued as one specific amount of metal, you can take that up with the people who suggest key prices; but again, that is irrelevant to this suggestion.
>Edit: And yes I did read all of your comments and your whole proof, but I don't agree with it.
So? That's the equivalent of posting a comment in a suggestion saying "Downvote, I don't agree with this range".
The problem I have though is that when 0.9 keys was accepted, it was based off of 5-5.11 ref, not 0.9 keys exactly. It would be even worse (but more accurate) to have suggested 0.93-1 key. In this proof, you have not shown sufficient proof of 4.88 ref other than basing it literally off of 0.9 keys.
I'm not entirely basing it off the previous range - in fact, I hardly am. I've shown several links displaying that 4.88 is a viable price, and in the event that this is deemed insufficient for whatever reason, there's the previous price of 0.9 keys to back me up. I'm not relying on it, I'm providing proof as a primary resource, and using it as a backup.
4.88 ref is a quicksell price though. There are 5x more sales at 1 key than at 4.88 ref. I don't think this range does this item market justice.
There aren't as many, but there are still several. Ideally, if the suggestion excluded 4.88, there'd be pretty much none - the amount that I've shown here denote that there are too many to consider it quicksell, and that it should be incorporated into the price range.
While you're at it, you should convert these to refined then based on your reasoning.
http://backpack.tf/stats/1038/6/0
http://backpack.tf/stats/5061/6/0
Theoretically, yes, I think it would be more convenient and accurate to convert those to refined.
Ok, let's imagine a little scenario:
Gen. Awpers were at 1 key for 3 months. http://backpack.tf/vote/id/514e0f8b4bd7b8e75300000c
Now let's say it was never converted to metal.
Today, Gen.Awpers would be at WAYYYY less than what a key is worth.
Now, say we changed this to metal, yet lots of sales at 1 key still occur.
What happens when keys hit 6 ref?
No longer accurate.
Yes, this range might be correct in the short term, but in the long term, no.
1. I think you right.
2. I can't sleep now because you said keys and 6 ref.
"What happens when (key word is WHEN) keys hit 6 ref"
I know you said when and I also know it will happen soon.
Hopefully not too soon :/
Yes, but think of it this way - every time a key suggestion is accepted, this item can be updated.
This might seem really inefficient, but look at they key figures - they're slowing down. The last successful key suggestion was almost 2 weeks ago. They're settling down.
But the majority of sales are still in keys, why not keep it in keys so there won't be need to constantly update it?
Like I said before, it's less accurate - pricing in metal uses 1 scrap as an increment, but pricing in keys uses 0.1 keys as the increment, which equates to 0.55. It can also be misleading, since anyone who buys/sells this item at 0.9 keys will be using metal.
Simpel multiplication.
0.9*5.44=5 ref
If someone can't do that, then they shouldn't be playing TF2.
Or they're in a hurry, or just stupid (like many tf2 traders). The main thing is that people will see 0.9 keys and automatically ballpark it instead of calculating, and find either 4.88 or 5 ref. As well as the whole accuracy thing.
Open calculator app, type in the numbers, and click the equal button. Takes like ten seconds for me.
if this everyone agree to drop the price u sir are good
no seriously 1 key for this =.=
1 key is just to much for me imm trying to be a collector and i want this wep
Stop being greedy. Prices here are not for your personal profit.
Just sell your hats and the bat and you'll have enough to buy it for a key.
im not being greedy check my backpack and u will understand what im saying...
and im NOT going to do profit on this wep.
"1 key is just to much for me imm trying to be a collector and i want this wep" = greed
and i did check your $6 bp, you have enough to buy one.
dude i know ur rich on your backpack i have a hat that i get 2 YEARS ago and again u may not understand people who dosent waste their money on hats
1. I don't care, you're still being greedy, trying to lower the price of a item so you can buy it.
2. I've spent $5 on this game.
3. I really don't believe you've been playing this game for 2 years and only have 200 hours on it.
i stop last year ok -.- and a lot of people want this item its not being gready and lastly i saw some one buy a unsual team captain burning effect for 5k usd i can can the vid link if u want to
Trying to manipulate prices so you can purchase that item is greed
your link 1 sold for 5 ref.
better to keep this in keys as the key range may change again.
>your link 1 sold for 5 ref.
And? I mentioned there. 5 ref is in between 4.88 and 5.44.
If by range you mean keys, then I also already mentioned that - key suggestions have slowed to 1 a week or less, with the last few being closed and the last accepted suggestion being almost 2 weeks ago. This indicates that key prices are settling down - and if they start changing again, this item can be changed as well. This might seem like a lot of trouble, but the reason why I'm doing this is that pricing in metal is far more accurate - you can make a suggestion for 1.33, 1.44, 1.55, etc. with the increment being 1 scrap. However, when pricing in keys, the increment is 1/10th of a key - for example, 0.5 keys, 0.6 keys, 0.7 keys - and 1/10 of a key is worth 0.55. So pricing in metal is roughly 5 times more accurate than key pricing.
I agree that pricing in keys is still efficient for higher-priced items, but for ones like this, which are partially under 1 key, should be priced in refined.
4.88-5.44 is basically 0.9-1 keys, don't see why you need to change currencies.
This site is only suppose to serve as a guide, if you're trying to pinpoint prices to within half a scrap then you're pretty much just dictating the price. People can find out what the average price is in metal by hovering over the price, so in the case of 0.9-1 keys the mean value is 5.17 ref.
If you change this item down into ref now it will only further depreciate in value as the price of keys goes up. The same thing happened with the g. machina.
>This site is only suppose to serve as a guide, if you're trying to pinpoint prices to within half a scrap then you're pretty much just dictating the price.
That's partially why I'm doing this - the prices on this website are for use as a quick reference, and 4.88-5.44 is a far more understandable number than 0.9-1 keys. It may seem that I'm trying to pinpoint prices for a very specific amount, but if this system is used in the future (specifically, for items partially/fully under 1 key), then it could be far more accurate than key pricing - metal pricing has an increment of 0.11, but key pricing has an increment of 0.55.
>People can find out what the average price is in metal by hovering over the price, so in the case of 0.9-1 keys the mean value is 5.17 ref.
It does this? I've just tried it with the Gen. Awp, and it doesn't work. Typing 'convert 0.9 keys' in the searchbar does work, but it rounds down to 4.9 ref. Which brings us back to my original point: the prices are made as a quick reference - people aren't gonna want to find out the price of the GenAwp, then calculate it themselves.
And about it depreciating in value as keys rise - key suggestions have slowed down, the last successful one being almost 2 weeks ago. This indicates keys are settling down - and if not, this item can always be updated as keys rise.
Yeah hover over where it actually says '4.66-5 ref' or whatever and it should tell you the equivilant in keys; vice versa. Also key suggestions have slowed down only because of the 3 day(?) restriction between voting new prices but as far as I'm concerned for the time being they're still perpetually rising.
http://backpack.tf/stats/526/1/0
Notice that the machina was a key and went UP to 3.33-3.66 (which was at the time more than what keys were). They then slowly went back down to 3 ref and has since never been changed; this is what happens when you have an inconsistant rate of conversion. Once you convert an item listed in keys into metal unless you keep updating the price of it (which means there has to be a constant demand to prove on a price suggestion that they're still worth the equivilant) they will only further depreciate.
>Yeah hover over where it actually says '4.66-5 ref' or whatever and it should tell you the equivilant in keys; vice versa.
Yeah, but the major issue with this is that for some reason, it only appears during suggestions. It would be better if it appeared on the standard price (in the searchbar).
>Also key suggestions have slowed down only because of the 3 day(?) restriction between voting new prices but as far as I'm concerned for the time being they're still perpetually rising.
The 3-day rule has been around for quite a while IIRC, at least since keys started to get mass suggestions (around 4.33 I think). Formerly, new key suggestions would be made the instant those 3 days was up, but not so much anymore.
Yeah, but the issue with the genuine machina was that it wasn't maintained as key prices went up.
Just go onto backpack.tf/pricelist/spreadsheet and it will tell you the prices when you hover over them.
Also in regards to the machina that's precisely my point in regards to items being maintained. This happens nearly to every item that gets turned into ref that isn't in a high demand.
I find it ironic how the Gen. Awp suggestion to 1 key was actually meant to lower it
http://backpack.tf/vote/id/514e0f8b4bd7b8e75300000c
actually have you ever think of what are you suggesting? because this is not changing currency, this is dropping price a lot
price of awp rises with price of keys and people still want to buy it for key. when price of key rises, price would normally rise too but when this suggestion passes price of awp would rise but wont since people will look at bp.tf price( but i think key sales will continue) so this is prie manipulation in some way
do you really think ONE SCRAP is important when it comes to 1 key(5,44 ref) worth item? i really dont and have a look at all prices in keys that are hard to convert, because price of key changes and will continue to change unless we stop it. actually it s pretty pointless to make price absolutely correct and it seems fine as it is right now. 0,9-1 keys is actually about the range you suggest(ask jym why he changed it from 1 key flat).
whole problem of the market are stupid dumb people who dont(or cant) think or count but changing currency isnt way to help them. its just stupid and pointless change that changes much more than accuracy of this price
just btw 5 ref buyer for awp http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/11871754
http://puu.sh/3oLeX.jpg (sold it for 5 ref to him)
I'm sorry, I had trouble understanding about 98% of what you typed.
>actually have you ever think of what are you suggesting? because this is not changing currency, this is dropping price a lot
price of awp rises with price of keys and people still want to buy it for key
Already mentioned this - this can be updated as keys go up, which might not even happen, since key suggestions have slowed to almost 1 every 2 weeks.
>do you really think ONE SCRAP is important when it comes to 1 key(5,44 ref) worth item?
Yes, it is - and it's even more important when it comes to other items, seeing as metal pricing is accurate down to every 0.11, but key pricing is only accurate down to every 0.55.
>so this is prie manipulation
Price manipulation? I'm sorry, do I have one in my backpack? Maybe I have an alt account with hundreds of GenAwps, of which I'm trying to drastically reduce the value of, for some dastardly reason?
>just btw 5 ref buyer for awp http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/11871754
http://puu.sh/3oLeX.jpg (sold it for 5 ref to him)
And? You're helping me by posting that - 5 ref is in between 4.88 and 5.44.
1. changing currency to cover another scrap in range is pointless and will need lots of changes as key rises to keep price updated (if price dont change according to bp.tf , but that means manipulation)
2. can you tell me why would it be so important, because i really dont see reason for this, actually Awp is mostly sold for key flat, rest is quicksell and I got no idea how .9 got included in range, anyway when it comes to key, scrap is really pointless(unless you re reselling keys but i think you make about rec profit on each key resold) and I think everyone makes profit more than scrap a day
3. price manipulation doesnt mean you want to change price for your profit but that if bp.tf accepts this price it may change price of this item on market which is pointless since price doesnt change at all for a long time and it would be just manipulated
4. I m not about helping you and I got awp on server for like 3 ref and I wanted to get rid of it and just want to show you that you could make 5-5,44 instead of this awkward ACCURATE range since there are still even buyers ABOVE your low end
hope you understand this now because this item was sold for key for like half a year and I dont really see reason why should stupid counting be reason to change it and make it worthless. thanks for reading, if you dont understand i ll get you doctor
>1. changing currency to cover another scrap in range is pointless and will need lots of changes as key rises to keep price updated (if price dont change according to bp.tf , but that means manipulation)
Did you read what I typed? Key prices might not even go up very often, the last one was almost 2 weeks ago. Price manipulation is irrelevant.
>2. can you tell me why would it be so important, because i really dont see reason for this, actually Awp is mostly sold for key flat, rest is quicksell and I got no idea how .9 got included in range, anyway when it comes to key, scrap is really pointless(unless you re reselling keys but i think you make about rec profit on each key resold) and I think everyone makes profit more than scrap a day
The rest isn't quicksell, there are enough links to prove that it isn't. If it WAS quicksell, there would be almost no links at 4.88-5.33. How 0.9 got into the range is not my problem, that's from the previous suggestion.
>3. price manipulation doesnt mean you want to change price for your profit but that if bp.tf accepts this price it may change price of this item on market which is pointless since price doesnt change at all for a long time and it would be just manipulated
Prices on backpack.tf don't reflect on whether an item has had a specific price for a long time, they reflect on what the item's selling for.
>4. I m not about helping you and I got awp on server for like 3 ref and I wanted to get rid of it and just want to show you that you could make 5-5,44 instead of this awkward ACCURATE range since there are still even buyers ABOVE your low end
Well of course they sell above my low end, that's why I have a high end. Disliking my comments will not help your case either.

I think that'll be my new signature on the forums.
ok man. let the mods decide. I cant say im worrying about gen awp, and I dont see your point and neither you see mine. dont want to get to war against Hitler. lol
Price manipulation would actually work the other way. Since you don't have one in your backpack, you are effectively lowering the price, so it is easier to buy one in the future. I am not accusing you of trying to manipulate prices, but I am just clarifying that point.
so if it 4.88-5.44, dont u think people would sell it for lower than that price too? then eventually someones gonna be like 4-5 ref lmao then people sell at 4 ref-3.66
0.9 - 1 key = 4.89 - 5.44 refined.
nothing is changing
