Verdict: As a seller, 5.44 sells instantly, and is a complete quick-sell with all the buyers at higher prices. It is not difficult whatsoever to sell at 5.55. 5.66 also sells rather quickly as well; however, there is not enough conclusive proof to put 5.77 in the range due to the lack of buyers, and skewed, small amount of sells.
As a buyer, you will be extremely hard pressed to buy at 5.44 with the large amount of 5.55 buyers. 5.55 buyers receive keys, while 5.66 is a sure-fire way to buy keys. 5.77 buyers simply do not exist.
Leave your logical thoughts/arguments in the comments below. I will try my best to answer questions, or provide more proof to those who ask.
I can't even begin to guess how this is going to go. So I'm not voting. It seems to be a 50/50 on key suggestions now.
More unboughts at 5.44?
i want unboughts at 5.44 too ;)
Almost all of the "unsolds" are either closed or umbumped. A couple are on autobump and at the time of this writing are offline. I'm not totally convinced.
he doesn't have any unsolds in his proof.
At least you could show that the buyers are from Hatch Rawer Beryl -.-
For me, It should even be 5.66 - 6 , by looking at all the bots and people...well : upvoted
I was on a server yesterday and there was a guy who buyed like 5 keys fore 5.44.
Just saying
Pics please
i was on a trade server, guy bought 1 key for 5.66...gnna have to upvote this
Yes, because the entire market is represented from that one sale on a trade server where evidence is more often not collected then it is.
I bought 5keys @5.44ref this week. 5.44 should still be in the range, since we can still buy keys @5.44.
Pics please
Just the other day I sold 4 keys for 5.44, all of witch sold within 5 minutes, 13 people in total wanted them, only 3 got keys. Next time I get a nice number of keys to sell I'll try selling at a higher price and see how fast they go. Until then, downvote.
Pics please
There is a slight problem with key prices increasing (major), for starters, on the market, they have went down to £1.25 average, from which every other time of the year is £1.50. And of-course, there is No reason to bump up key prices, so what if other people are selling and buying at that price?, doesn't mean you have too and maybe Its time to put keys back to their original Price. Thanks for reading :)
The price is set by what people are willing to pay. You can't just put the price back to how it was.
well there is the re-sellers that set the prices hear(yes i´m in this too) and peeps who just wanna buy have to buy at the higher prices cause they wont find it cheaper.
Just saying
If people are impatient and keep buying at prices higher than the suggested range then the price will continue to go up. It is not the fault of backpack.tf it is the fault of impatient people paying above the market price for keys.
well if they try to buy at backpack.tf price they will not get any buyers so they are forced to buy at a higher price
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12687311
It takes seconds to find keys for decent prices. I do think the price should go up but it isn't hard to find a good deal if you have some patience.
i totally agree with this if ppl like to get scammed just to buy some keys that's not a community problem
if they cant afford to buy the keys from the market witch is in historic lowest price let them get ripped a scrap or two who cares
They went down in the Marketplace because of the Steam Summer Sale; people want cheap games that are usually like 30 or 40 dollars.
Hell, not just keys, everything is cheaper by the looks of it.
It may be slow, but I've been able to buy keys at 5.44 each. I bought two today, and am working my way through my queue.
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/10833610
If you want screenshots of the trade (inventory history) I can put it up, but there are still keys that can be bought at 5.44.
Doesn't matter that they take time to obtain. They can still be bought.
Those are my thoughts, anyway. If I'm wrong about 5.44 buying, just let me know and update me on how key suggestions work. Because if they can still be bought, no matter how long it takes, shouldn't it still count?
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12462011
succesfully bought for 5.33
if you keep raising the price people will keep asking for higher prices than price range. this is an infinite process
so stop raising the price
"owns 25" that explains a lot
upvote. when bots can buy and sell at this price and make a profit its time for a market change. anyother trades are irelevant even below this price becuase there are people who rely on outdated backpack.tf prices way way to much
I'm pretty sure Gaben is just sitting on a couch laughing as more money rolls in to his bank account...
Well...... I don't know

Anyways, a couple things to note about your proof:
1.) TF2Finance is not good proof, stated by cleverpun
2.) Some links of your proof fall in the category of:
-Misplaced links/Troll links. Ex. http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12495024
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12467246 <- buyer for 5.55, you put him in the 5.66 category
-Key Bots. Ex. http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/11699011.
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12253775
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/10685146
You have a ton of key bots as proof.
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/9725989 you also have links like this, where they constantly update their prices, so you can't tell how many have been sold to them.
I am removing all the bots now. Don't be stealing my counter-proof now. :P
You countered your own suggestion. And I added some links.
I suppose I'm just that awkward.
5.44- is quick sells and should not be hear.
I believe you mean "here"
By that logic, 5.66 is also a quicksell because I sold a key today in sixty seconds at that price.
There is NO such thing as quicksell keys.
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12699094 --- Trade posted at 3:13 PM
http://puu.sh/3D48G.PNG --- Sold at 3:14 PM
Your argument for such a thing as a "quicksell" key would define a key that sells quick, which by your logic also means even 5.77 proofs are invalid. Which also means keys should go down, as higher prices are quicksell/quickbuy.
*Sigh* Dumb keys. Anyway, seems good. Proof is solid.
To be honest, I don't think you even clicked any clicks and checked them.
I thought you had to wait a week for a change this small?
It's getting really close to 1 week, I believe only a couple more hours.
He just couldn't wait :3
y people so eager to bump keys up D:
2 cents is huge money, you know. These traders need keys to feed their growing kids.
Well, 3 ref since september is a little over a dollar, times the amount of keys the people who make these suggestions have and you probably could feed a family of four for a week with the keys if you think about it. :P
So if you disagree, you are welcome to try and make a counter-suggestion.
Will never understand people like Tick. The god damn keys are raising not because anyone wants them too, it's just because of an increase of profit margin. At LEAST 50% of the time, people will make only 1 scrap off of a key trade, maybe 2. No one cares if the actual value of the keys change, since profit margin stays the same. Only people hit hard by this are the people who store their investments in ref, which even before the key raise, was a real stupid idea.
solid proofs upvoted
Didn't even look at the links did we?
6 Days =/= 7 Days.. Resubmit It Tomorrow
HUGE difference
well now it turns to 6 days.. next week it'll be 5 days, next time it will be 4. After that it will turn into 3 days. Then 2. And eventually we're changing the price of keys every single day. Every little think can make a difference. Once a week is enough
Yeah, just imagine if bp.tf prices were up to date instead of 10 days out of date. Sounds horrible.
1 day=24 hours=1440 minutes=86400 seconds=86400000. Dats a big difference :O
Even if this is accurate, hasn't been 7 days since the last key suggestion. Can't bump it up a scrap until tomorrow.
Well idling is now near impossible since -textmode idling is not possible anymore, so key prices aren't going to rise soon.
They will rise more slowly.
Or drop since the 6000 accounts idlers just lost their counterfeit machines.
Prices going up on here, & on the market you can get keys @ $1.92 & still dropping! XD people are paying 6 ref on outpost, & bazaar! just crazy!
They going less on market because people want to buy cooler keys. Wait for 2-3 more days when cooler key rush is over and then see the key price going back up to 2.38-2.40$$.
The steam and refined market are totally different in this aspect.
No market price is low because people buy games. Cooler keys are gey. On topic, what chigga said. Wait till the week is over, and get better proof.
Ah yes, I totally forgot about games. Its summer sale, off course. On topic, the only problem here is the week, and for proof there is ample. I could add my trades where I bought a shit tons (35-40) of keys yesterday for 5.66/5.77 because there were none/very very very very very few available for 5.55 ref.
It has been repeatedly announced by the mods that links salvaged from trade.tf cannot be used if the keys do not last even for 10 seconds.
I agree with the range, heck saw 5.77 and 6 BUYERS today. But I disagree with the proof. It's simply not good enough atm
Want me to prove more? I don't believe there is much to prove, considering the 5.55 - 5.66 buyers, and the successful 5.55 - 5.66 sellers, and the unsuccessful buyers at 5.44. Then again, this is probably an opinion.
If the moderators of this website are pretty much certain about their " proposed/implemented" 7 day rule then this should be closed today.
However, the suggested range is correct. It is troublesome finding keys at even 5.66 ref, forget about 5.44 or 5.55 ref.
I sold a key for 5.77 refs : http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12581561
I think it took 30 minutes to find someone for the trade. I ask him to put a message so i could check the "accept offer" but it seems he was busy and i didn't know since you mark as done a trade you can't comment afterwards.
Screenshot?
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12583862 - heh, i'll honor his request, although it's not proving anything
At the time I am posting this, you can get them for cheaper on the Market http://steamcommunity.com/market/listings/440/Mann%20Co.%20Supply%20Crate%20Key
how does steam wallet money = price of keys in refined
please explain
Backpack.tf has a suggested price in USD for refined. Take the price of a key, divide it by the price of refined, and you have the refined value of a key. Problem is if you do this you get 7.11 ref (2.49 Store price of keys/.35 max value ref). So either ref should be worth more or keys are being undervalued.
Which sucks.
You have to use the paypal number, not the mann co number. The top paypal number is around 6.33 ref after you subtract fees.
So..either way...ref should be worth more or keys are being undervalued.
Undervalued is the answer big guy.
I know this is speculation and not evidence based, but with the downfall of textmode idling (bundled with the giant summer patch supposedly), I think we'll start to see a decline on the metal injected into the market daily, which could result in key prices settling down a bit, and possibly even dropping slightly.
I've been selling keys at 5.66 in the current range in a few minutes, even getting multiple adds in some cases. Here are a few of my trades under the current range that are most easily used at proof:

Any proof?
IDK how to take pics of my inv history, but here is my trade, http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12471814 the guy who commented sold me 2 keys at 5.44 earlier today.
Alright, item histories match up. Legit counterproof.
Ahem. http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12509150
So? 5.55 is in the range.
If it took me less than half an hour unbumped to get 2, I don't think that should be the minimum.
Feel free to post actual proof of your supposed buys. Please, it would help my proof a lot. :)
In that link I got 2 of them for 5.55, which if it's the minimum I shouldn't have gotten so fast. I tried to pick up another at 5.44 but the guy that added me said "backpack price" then said "oh, high end so 5.66," which I ended up agreeing to.
I also have no idea how to do inventory history links.
All that I am saying is that if 5.55 is the low end, like you propose how did I get an add to sell to me at that price in less than ten minutes?
I'm also not denying that some people are selling for more. I've seen them and they get adds, sometimes for as much as 6 ref.
I'm starting to think that while you may be right that they have increased, with pkms post, and chigga's post, and the fact that your "unsuccessful" buyers might have been successful, I think that the range itself might have increased. It might be 5.33-6 ref.
Hate to say it but upvote. Keep seeing 5.44 sales go in literally microseconds. Like, I'll sit and refresh the page on trade.tf to try get on and add instantly and still won't be in time. 5.44=super quicksell.
So you're telling me 5.55 isnt quicksell?
They probably are but I wouldn't go as far as to say that 5.55 shouldn't be in the range right now.
No such thing as quicksell keys because even 5.77 sells nearly instantly.
Why is the price of keys in the steam store getting lower while the price si rising?
People are selling them to get steam wallet funds. The summer sale has caused the supply on the market to increase.
some on classifieds for 5.44. if u hang on trade servers they go for 5.44-5.55 even 5.33 on occasions and the 5.66's hang a little longer. but if all proof is based solely on tf2outpost then the price is 5.66++++
even IF this suggestion is 40% or less admins still decide the price...
Amazing proof, upvote!
Downvote.
The only reason is that it's been 6 days, not 7. If the moderators actually uphold the rules they've established, this suggestion will be closed.

When he made this post, the last one was 6 days old, so simply is right.
about half your unbought at 5.44 have bought some
Valve just took out easy idling big time with this last update so expect key prices to go down again (or metal up) unless someone can find a fix, which at the moment doesn't look easy with the way they have done it.
It's not gonna be a easy fix at all. Textmode won't work, that will mean that you have to run the game properly in the background. And then you will need a script that automatically "confirms" the item when you get it.
Pretty much yeah, there are ways around it but the system resources are going to be hella high, tf2idle will need a total re-wright to work in windowed mode set to auto minimise and run the accept script. I'd say 99% of idlers are fucked right now and that remaining 1% are going to find it a pain in the ass.
Ok, I'll let you in on how I idle without textmode.
I'm on a Mac (holy os warriors out please), and textmode has never worked on Mac. My method of idling is to press Esc while in an idle server (usually LAN since I don't have the best internet). Although it pops a notification when you get an item, everything else continues in the background. Occasionally it becomes a multi-notification (i.e. '9 new items acquired!') as well.
Still, there's the problem with system resources.
That's small scale idling, with 1 account. We're talking about giant idle farms here, ones with up to hundreds of copies of TF2 running in text mode, effectively getting like a bud for free each week.
"And then you will need a script that automatically "confirms" the item when you get it."
I was addressing that
Well, I can understand why it's going up. Because people are desperate to get keys to buy games for. But on the other hand, tf2 idling is dead. That will mean that key prizes will drop very soon. It will happen. It looks like valve stopped idling on purpose, not by mistake. So that means it won't get fixed.
But of course people with keys will push it to the limits and then sell their keys before the key prize will drop like a rock. Pathetic.
http://puu.sh/3BwRA.jpg Still possible to buy at 5.44 !
Now let's examine your unbought for 5.44:
L1: http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12542033 bought
L2: http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12559294 has some keys in his bp, whether they were bought for 5.44 or not, we don't know
L3: http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12505072 bought
L4: http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12568093 bought
L5: http://www.tf2outpost.com/backpack/76561198031011685 lots of new keys in bp
L6: http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12542033 bought (you listed this link twice)
L7: http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12466842 ok legit
L8: http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12232853 has keys in bp, same as L2
L9: http://www.tf2outpost.com/user/283807 i dont know wtf he's doing with all his key trades
L10: http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12302640 actually a 5.55 buyer
L11: http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12115321 bought
Let us look at it from an unbiased stand point.
L1: No comments, No bookmarks, 73 views, and because he closed it, we automatically are to assume he bought a key?
L2: He has keys in his backpack. which means he bought them all for 5.44?
L3: See L1
L4: See L1
L5: He is selling many items, but because he has a lot of keys, we assume that based on his commentless, bookmarkless trade, that is where he got them all from?
L6: See L1.
L7: Of course it is.
L8: Once again, Keys are relevant in anybodys backpack, so automatically assuming that a trade with no bookmarks, 100+ views, and only 1 post of somebody who was going to sell, but then opted out is outrageous.
L9: He has relists of trades buying for 5.44 and 5.55 for some reason. To sustain the burn, his 5.44 trades have no apparent adds, while his 5.55 does have apparent adds.
L10: Simply proves my point further. Failed 5.44 buyer converts to 5.55.
L11: Actually the only trade that - oh wait. Check his backpack. http://www.tf2outpost.com/backpack/76561198043872163 - I'm counting no keys.
Regardless of how pathetic your review of my proof was, which by all means was absolutely lazily accomplished, links like that do not prove a lot considering the difficulty it is to record them. Regardlessly, I put them there as a request and an interesting review to those who chose to actually view them. The fact of the matter remains with the large amount of 5.55 Refined buyers, and even 5.66 buyers, 5.44 will always remain irrelevant, especially with the constant failiure 5.44 buyers endure.
Not all people comment when trading. It's generally accepted closed=sold. And did you not see "has some keys in his bp, whether they were bought for 5.44 or not, we don't know." We don't know, I never said they bought any for that price. That solves the issue with L2 and L8. For L11, http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/11721961 he's a key reseller, must've resold the key he bought.
So now you are assuming a biased opinion? You are literally saying that every closed trade means that person has bought/sold their item they needed, which is ridiculous. All your review is is simple speculation and assumptions, which is laughable, to be honest.
...what? Go on price suggestions, it is accepted that closed=sold. Not being biased...
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12552108 no comment, did it sell? Yes
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12549023 no comment, did it sell? Yes
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12551865 no comments, did the things there sell? Yes
Closed=Sold, that is something that is accepted on backpack.tf.
You do realize if you click on those items, they show you a history of it, and who now has that item? That is easily tracable and legit, while the trades you claim to have been bought keys are not? Not to mention that with your logic, every closed trade means that the trade fell through, and you do not see that as being slightly biased?
You do realize, that if you click on the keys, they show you a history of it, and who now has that key? Oh, some other guy, well, no shit. The keys sold, stop trying to derail the conversation.
I would be making about a 50 cent profit.
Just bought 3 more keys at 5.44 ref from the guy who posted in my trade, the second one ~ http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12471814#p41138854
Item history links are appreciated.
I am here to prove keys are 5.44 ref, chigga did searched the item history himself and said it was legit counterproof, so yeah xp
You need actual pictures of your trading log. It seems funny that you don't want to show it. xp
IDK how to take pics, and its funny how you cant look it up yourself, what scared that this wont pass, it seems funny since this wont pass xp
If you want to show counterproof, post the image yourself. Hit 'prt scrn' on your keyboard if you're on a qwerty.
I'm just objective. You say you have bought 3 for 5.44, but refuse to post proof of it.
Agreed, but is there anyone you can prove that sellers have actually sold it at 5.66?

Unbelievable, but I was able to sell one of five keys for six refined within one hour and thirty minutes of posting the trade. Obviously this person added me out of convenience but it is still undeniable that people are willing to pay more for Keys.
I see no reason why have voting when we basicly have no say I mean seriously 48.59% voted no a month ago yet they still accepted it this site is not even close to legit
50 - 48.59 = 1.41. Not even close to legit? Meh, its all about the proof man, if there is a huge majority that votes against it then there is a problem if it still gets accepted but come on. 1.41%? Pish posh
Voting loses its meaning when people stop looking at the proof and vote for what they think the price should be rather than what it actually is.
See, when Outpost overcharges for keys, people use it as proof to increase price. When price is increased, they overprice that price is well. Therefore, if we DON'T INCREASE THE BLOODY PRICE, THERE WILL BE ACTUAL STABILITY FOR ONCE. LET THEM OVERPRICE. JUST KEEP THE PRICE NORMAL FOR ONCE.
This is what happens when people take price guides as price bibles...
That and that people pay too much. Why would you pay the full price/overprice? Be thrifty.
this guy who make this vote he bought key like 5.44 ref like 2 days before
now he want increase price
it is so sad .... people keep looking for profit not looking to play ... it is so shame ..
I'm wondering, if Valve put the keys on sale, would they drop? ah, would be fantastic. Well, I'm staying neutral, because of shown counter-proof.
Yeah... but Valve would most likely not do that.
I voted against the raise because the Mannconomy is going to change and Fast: as of the latest July update, idle farms are gonna be screwed up. No textmode idling is allowed nor any unattended idling, as you'll need to click every item you're got to be entitled of the next drop. Refined metal is going to be rare, and I'd say RARE in comparison to the current situation: no-one can buy Metal from the store and the accounts willing to real-play will be a fraction of the total we're used to. By no means a Key will be sold for more than 4 Refined; expect that in a month from now.
My 2 cents.
And I have some.

There is a way around everything. It may take time, but worry not dude, it will be back.
Fact that you must run 100% GPU for getting this screws entirely the idle farms, even if someone creates a macro for simulating accepting every drop. Imagine 100+ accounts all driven by a single GPU.
The Idle farm time has dead.
lots of people complaining, pretty sure they will either bring it back or raise the drop cap (at least)
1.5 million pieces of ref out there; define "rare."
If you want to have this discussion take it to the forums, this is not the place.
This is a verbal warning for off-topic behavior and flame baiting.
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12645535 -- 5.44 ref
http://bazaar.tf/trade/303628 -- 5.55 ref
Yesterday I very easy (2 min) bought 2 keys for 5.33 refs each .
I think selling out in steam store influenced the cost of.
5.66-6 ref
Downvote is a downvote
UpVote to much prooofs !!!!!!
Upvoted.
For any future suggestions though:
It would be very inadvisable to raise the price above 5.66 ref, as keys recently fell in price on the market, and now are worth about the same amount in real money, if what's displayed on here is correct.
I just sold 2 keys for 6 ref in less than 5 hours. The ranges are all outta wack yo
a.k.a 10 ref each
Some time ago keys are 2 for 5 ref. So keys already are 2 keys each :3
Although, the price on the steam market went down 20%, keys go up in ref? Cruel world!
I want a little more unsuccessful buys at 5.44. I occasionally get added and my trade's up for 5.44 (although, I do agree that 5.44 is getting more and more rare, however, I haven't been trading much for roughly three days so I can't vouch for the recent)
Narrow it down .11 ? Really? your info indicates a range of .33 < 5.33 /5.66
You have too many keys to suggest this in the first place
First comment correct you counter your own suggestion
amount of keys owned doesn't matter http://backpack.tf/vote/id/515e3c864bd7b82a25000009
: ( .
Actually no matter how much they rise, they will stop at 7.33 ref because that's about 2.50 USD, the price Valve is selling keys at.
well people are now saying that since idlers are gone that keys will go down
No idlers =/= no weapon drops. Oh well, we'll see :D Maybe keys will = 0.33 ref in the future :O
maybe I just say invest in refine metal since it can never go wrong since its the base currency of tf2, it's like the 1$ bill
Good idea, poor example... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_dollar#Current_exchange_rates
lol my bad, and can I ask you a question? why is circling hearts unusual effect higher than tf2 logo and peace sign?
Voting threads are not the place to discuss things like this, but the short answer is that effects are not only established by rarity but also desirability.
That was the logic back when keys were 2.33 refined..."They won't go over 2.5-2.66 refined since that's equal to 2.50". Turns out the USD price of ref can just drop instead. :/
The price of keys to ref is dependant on the price of ref, which fluctuates, in recent times, ref is slowly dropping, so keys can go as high as they want. Not saying that I necessarily want them to but just saying that if ref was priced at 1 cent then keys can go for 200+ ref (exaggerated example)
I wonder how long the rise in keys will go on. I mean, its gotta stabilize at one point right?
Do you have any way to draw off Scrap.tf's key trades? That's where I usually go when Outpost is acting crazy.
I dont see any reason to change current range.
I do, proof outlines the reasons very well.
Hell, 5.77ref has been a relatively easy sale for over a week now.
5.44ref is a downright quicksell, you need to add within 20 seconds of trade creation to have any chance. Hell, 5.55ref goes just as quick.
Show me some counter proof of several sellers @ 5.44ref.
If so, I'll go gather a greater or equivalent amount of proof of 5.77ref sales.
5.44ref simply does not belong in the range anymore.
very democratic.
People always buy for less and sell for more, if you raise prices, people will buy for less and sell for more, just like always.
There should be a rule on here, if there is a diffrence of a scrap or two between bp.tf price and the price people sell keys for, making a suggestion should be abadoned.
Because right now, its vicious cycle.
Vicious cycle of key's price.
Of course, something has to stop with those little price bumps, if you put something for 6 ref, people will buy for 5.88 and sell for 6.11, then we'll notice that a lot of people sell for 6.11 so a price bump will be made.
Once price is bumped, people will buy for 6 and sell for 6.22, and this will never stop.
Feel free to post counter proof if you think this is the wrong price.
http://steamcommunity.com/market/listings/440/Mann%20Co.%20Supply%20Crate%20Key Going for the cheapest they ever have since the Market came out, I believe that this is fair proof.
People want to turn their TF2 Items into Steam Wallet Funds to buy games because it's the time of the annual Gaben Giveaway
(Not to get off-topic here)
You mean a pet Gaben!? I've always wanted one! XD
That is Steam Wallet cash gaining value rather than keys losing value.
And the reason the price of keys are going up is because everyone wants profit from them.
