That goddamn red arrow has caused a false impression that keys are falling, when they actually are not. Last suggestion was just meant to correct KoDoRiN's 6.11-6.22 suggestion that was wrong at the time.

While I do recognise that 6 ref is possible to buy at it shouldn't be in range because it sells insanely fast, and there's several willing buyers that go higher. Yes, that makes them outliers, and no, 6 ref doesn't represent the majority of sales at all.

6 ref - Dead price point, (almost) always sells instantly within 1-3 minutes of being posted, even if in great amounts. Although there's several buyers at this point, there's lots willing to go above, incluiding scrap.tf itself. On the seller side, it's less common than 6.22. Shouldn't be in range.

6.11 ref - Most common price point, sells fast and easily. Lots of buyers and successful sellers.

6.22 ref - Also sells easily, and usually fast. Few buyers, but still lots of successful sellers. Second more common price point.

6.33 ref - Possible, but sits around a lot. No buyers at this point. Outlier.

Again, any constructive criticism or proof/counterproof is appreciated. Please refrain from spamming unnecessary comments. sorry buy if it goes up to 6.22 then all the mass key traders will buy at 6.22 and then sell at 6.44 then people will request for the price to go up and then they will do the same buy at 6.44 sell at 6.66, this is what i think will happen

correct, that is how items always go up. bp.tf is considered the "law" of tf2 trading, this is true because everyone uses it. and when bp.tf creates a price, people will buy for less, and sell for more than the suggested price, then people create price suggestions because of the people who sell for more and buy for less, because of the price suggestion has so much proof, people generally accept it and the cycle repeats

so yeah, if someone makes a price suggestion for 6.33 ref, everyone will sell at 6.44 and buy at 6.22. then a price suggestion will be created for 6.44 ref because so many people sell at 6.44 and so on

We went two weeks without a key suggestion passing, and the price still rose. Some people treat bp.tf as immutable, but they are not as common as you are implying.

Please go check the steam market. The price there is 2.45 for a key. When Halloween began I could buy keys at 2.24 - 2.3 and I did. Around 30 - 40 of them. That is all the evidence I need to know that this is suggestion is likely true and the key has returned to rising again.

It is an upvote on the price range but atleast filter your links before posting that scripted text for us. It is more of an annoyance to click on a link and find out that it is not what it is said to be.

the point of labelling trades as quicksells (which is what i think you are getting at) is to mark them out as anomalies, and shouldn't be accounted for in the actual price (similar to outliers in unusual pricing).

With keys everything trades fast, i would be surprised if i had to wait more than a day to sell a key at even 6.33. This does not make it a quicksell. What does make it a quicksell is if a clear minority of the market are selling at that price, which it clearly isn't true here.

Lower end: Item X sells fast at this price, but if you're patient or look around you can find someone selling at this price.

Higher end: This is the most you could realistically expect people to pay.

People's selling prices on outpost don't mean shit. I could say "selling 8 keys for 9 ref" but that doesn't mean I'll get 72 ref. Keybankers with a "sold at this price" number don't mean shit. There have been several cases in the past where they lied, and honestly, what incentive would they have to even list that other than using it in another key price suggestion? Trades on outpost that are closed with a green checkmark don't mean shit. Many key resellers repeatedly (in violation of outpost's rules) close and relist the same trade to effectively bump within less than 30 minutes. Given the previous point I made, I don't doubt some of them are using that for shady proof here too, so check their inventory.

If you're trying to prove a new low-end price, show trades with 6.11+ refined on the left side and a key in the right side, and make sure these traders have a solid indication of new items to support their claims of successful sales so we know they aren't just posting fake trades for a price suggestion.

I don't vote on key suggestions, but for the crowd I say this: If backpack.tf hadoesn't change the keyprice

the overal buying and selling price will be the same as now. The price will never go higher, because people won't buy for higher. that is how tf2 trading works. In the real world the supliers decide the price, because the people can't produce all the food and electronics themselves. In this economy the supliers do NOT decide the price of an item. If items if the buyers aren't stupid enough to buy at a higher price, this inflation crap would be over. Many people say it is backpack.tf's fault that the key price is raising. that is half true. The ones who vote on the prices are guilty as well. Don't go full hating or retard mode on this comment. It is just a comment to let the people see how they can do something about inflation. If you don't want keys to go high, don't buy high!

We went two weeks without a key suggestion passing, and the price still rose. Some people treat bp.tf as immutable, but they are not as common as you are implying.

Jokes aside, I have placed a comment on the other key suggestion about this exact same problem. People are going to look at a person's badges, and medals, and think "Geeze, that guy is one heck of a connoiseur, he must be an expert at economics!" while all that happens is that the person explains his points in such a manner that people believe him, or that people believe him no matter what.

That doesn't mean that the range is wrong, but I am very skeptical about the conclusion of this suggestion, the price count and the conclusion that is being pulled from it. For example, why is 6.00 ref an outlier if it is 20% of the current market? It is just /slightly/ below the others in the price range. Not to mention that this is out of 240 links total, solely on Outpost. None of the other trading sites are being concerned at the moment, while these also consist of an enormous database with people buying/selling keys. Not to mention that there are waaaaay more than 240 people on Outpost trading keys, and most likely, only the recent trades are being listed, because these are the ones that pop up when pressing 'Search' and putting a key on one side and a ref on the other.

As I said, I am okay with this range, but the key doesn't reach its top if all that happens is the main site for the key price keeps topping it up with yet ANOTHER layer of fabricated key prices, where people will buy/sell key prices on top of that, and then the suggestion will be applied AGAIN. Imagine if you were putting whipped cream on a cake, someone placed a cherry on top, and you whip creamed it again. Now imagine that the cherry has to be on top according to the other person, but you like it covered in whipped cream. It would either just freeze (as it has done now for a while) or you keep building it up until the economy crashes, as ref cannot cost less than so many cents and keys cannot cost more than they cost in the Mann. Co store.

Other way round: If someone buys an item I listed at 1 key + 3 ref for 2 keys and asks for change, how much metal do I need to add before he accepts?

I have made the experience that I and many other traders accept 6 ref as virtual key price just for the convenience. Isn't that another sign 6 ref is supposed to be in the range?

I think it's a viable point you have there. It, sadly, does not take away that if the price changes on here, the price changes on many sites and in many minds. If a suggestion for 6.22 would be added, and someone would sell something for 1 key, he would request 6.22 in metal instead of the key if he were to sell it to the buyer.

That is where this economy hangs everytime.

I've had a buds for keys trade with over 1000 views where I tried to sell it at 17 keys and nobody bought it even though 17 keys was in range.

I think this suggestion is better than the other because 6 ref shouldn't be in the range. I've tried buying keys for 6 ref to no avail, and have bumped my price to 6.11, and even then I still haven't bought any.

Despite all the 6 ref proof in the other suggestion, they go insanely fast. They are selling it probably because they need urgent metal at the moment, which could explain why most of them are only selling ONE key for 6 ref.

I just skimmed through all your links, and again, a whopping 0 out of 74 were even open for 20 minutes before being closed. Any "added" comments on those trades were posted up to 3 minutes after the trade being posted, in most cases.

My point still stands - 6 ref, while seen on a daily basis, is basically an instasell and outlier.

Why is that a problem? They sold the keys less than 20 minutes. So what? That's normal. If you need a key, you'll search for it: 2 @ 6, 10 @ 6.11, 8 @ 6.22, 4 @ 6.33. How much will you pay? You wanna make profit, so 6 ref. It's fine.

Anything that Pyroman says get tons of dislikes. It is probably from the mass of people who know he is right but hate him for being good at proofs. I upvote this after looking at a few of the proofs. Dislike this post all you want, but keys aren't dead on the rise. Pyroman's proof shows that. Sales at 6.22 common, 6 ref sells as soon as it is seen by someone on outpost.

I think at this point its pretty safe to say, upvote!

I remain neutral on key suggestions. I consider myself a fairly inexperienced trader. However, i agree that 6 ref sells fast, i also believe that rarely anyone sells to 6 ref buyers because they know they can sell it at 6 ref easy, so why put the effort into searching on outpost?

The reason why buyers doesn't get too many adds may be that there are so freaking many and people want to keep their keys since they are rising, thus putting the demand greatly over the supply. There are loads of people buying keys for 6 ref just because they can resell for 1 scrap higher or more and see that as profit, although they can only buy 1 at a time. The majority of buyers are only resellers

proof and votes are pretty much pointless on suggestions with high priority..because the mods are just gonna check for themselves..making a key suggestion like pyroman did here, collecting tons of proof and probably spending several hours on outpost, is a complete waste of time..I stopped voting last year when they accepted a suggestion on the strange sapper (there were 4 different suggestions with different ranges) and the accepted suggestion just had no proof at all..if you go through the effort of making a suggestion don't bother making a suggestion on a popular item, because it's a waste of time..

votes, proof, and mods are all part of a system of checks and balances. Of course none of them have total control over the other, that is how checks and balances are supposed to work; in tandem.

On the vast majority of accepted suggestions the voters, proof, and mods all agree with each other, and it is those suggestions are easiest to defend after the fact. If a moderator is accepting/denying a suggestion against the voters wishes, they are required to post a comment explaining their decision. There is a way to publicly ask moderators to explain their decisions on the bp.tf forums.

This is one of several reasons why key suggestions take so much time to moderate; a third of the system can't be relied on, so there is more strain put on the other checks (mods and proof).

Upvotes doesn't necessarily mean it is the correct price. Some votes will occur based upon what prices traders want and not the proof presented. The mods on bp.tf have the final say after looking at the proof given, along with comments and counterproof in the suggestion.

Why my suggestion was the 2 or 3 last days with constant "enough positive votes", and my rep downed from 604 to 603 later of 5 "enough positive votes"? And on the last day to 602? And JUST on the last day the suggestion haven't "enough positive votes"? I'm really angry with that because it seems to be a thing very... rare. Not a conspiration, but something rare, YES. If we give a suggestion 2 extra days, and block the upvote bottom, is obviously a thing: We are giving time to the users who don't agree with the suggestion for downvote it. So, 3 days later i suggested the new price. It has "enough positive votes", and i have'd 604 of rep (See my profile now, I have 602). Normal things. On the day, the fourth, i have'd 603 of rep and constant "enough positive votes". The last day i haven't "enough positive votes", and my rep down to 602.

Why if my suggestion have'd 2 days constat "enough positive votes" (I suppose in the third day it has 75-80%) in the fourth day don't close it and done? Why did it? For give time to the users who don't agree with the suggestion and they can downvote it. And, passed the 3 days (2 with "enough positive votes") the users who downvoted the suggestion will be so many than the users who CAN upvote the suggestion. Not just who upvoted, too the users who CAN upvoted it. And my suggestion have'd 500 or 600 less voters than it. How you have 400 voters (Up or down) more than my suggestion, if yours was created many hours later? How you suggestion NEVER has "enough positive votes" and still alive? Lucky? I don't think that.

Ive sold 9 keys in the past couple hours with them being priced at 6.22, and i had to remove my post for all of the requests i was getting. easy upvote.

What else can people do? No one will buy a key for 6.11 if they can buy it for 6 ref. They won't wait 2 days just for fun, they won't buy 100 keys at 6.33 ref just because of this website. constant increasing of them doesn't help the market. eventually they will be 7 ref, then 8, then why trade for them at all. A fixed price is not manipulation, the keys will fluctuate, but upping them every 1-2 weeks is beyond market fluctuation(usually mark-up and greed), it changes too often, setting a fixed rate for a longer length of time, let the price settle in and adjust accordingly to the actual market. All we have here is: oh I sold a key for 6 fast, so Ill sell for 6.11, oh it sold fast, I should sell it for more, then someone undercuts to sell faster. At some point people won't pay it and look elsewhere, let the price sit fixed for a while so the market can determine what keys are worth(not those who buy for 5.88 and sell for 6.22 for the pure sake of profit)

We went two weeks without a key suggestion passing, and the price still rose. Some people treat bp.tf as immutable, but they are not as common as you are implying.

As soon as this price range has been suggested I can barely find anyone selling keys at 6.11 (I think I found only 1, which was sold).

Nobody on backpack.tf is selling keys for less than 6.33 (apart from one guy, who hasn't been online for 5 days)

I tried buying keys for 6.11 but no luck and had to resort to buying keys for 6.33. (Everyone one TF2 Outpost selling keys for 6.22 is out of stock)

I think 6.33 should be included in the range and perhaps 6.11 be removed. (Its only a matter of days till its removed)

the metal prices has gone a little higher maybe the key prices must go down a bit

So... Any reason why this suggestion hasn't been accepted yet? I've been trying to buy at 6.22 refined for a couple days now with very little success. I ended up buying 10 for 6.33 refined each.

After extensive discussion among the mods and thorough review of the proof, it has been concluded that this suggestion is accurate enough to be accepted.

While 6 ref IS a very common price point, buying keys for 6 ref takes too much active effort to justify putting in the range. 6.11 and 6.22 are trivial to buy and sell for, but anything lower or higher takes a noticeable, non-trivial amount of time to trade at.

The sales at 6 and below seem to match the sales at 6.33 or above; since 6–6.33 would be a very unwieldy range for a currency, 6.11–6.22 is a better range to list.

I feel compelled to remind everyone that backpack.tf tries to list the most commonly traded prices. This does NOT mean, however, that the prices we list are the only ones that happen. It is implicit that trades will happen outside the range we list in both directions, and nowhere is this more obvious than with currencies. Just because some people are successful at 6.44 or 5.77 doesn't mean they deserve to be included, but that doesn't mean bp.tf is ignoring those trades. The same is true of 6 and 6.33 here; they do happen regularly, but given what a sellers market keys are at this time, it isn't feasible to include them.

The mods were a little divided on this decision; the abundance of proof, the votes, and the strong community reaction are what caused it to be open for so long. In end, however, we need to be honest with the community about where items are trading, and this suggestion matches the market the most.
