I think this deserves an upvote, despite what others may think i can only go off what i have seen, in the last 2 days i have seen buds sell rather easily for 19 keys and 19 keys + 3-4 ref. I think 19 - 20 better suits what people are willing to pay right now. I am going to sell a couple of mine and come back with some proof. =]

I am not at all defending nerd baller's rude comments. But his point behind all his comments is still cannot be denied either. The moderators of backpack.tf and defenders of backpack.tf have to agree that no cool-down rule can defend hype train created by a suggestion approved on backpack.tf. There had been numerous arguments/ counter arguments but this had been a perfect example of backpack'tf's role in the price manipulation. Moreover, one of the moderators in your team broke the cool-down rule and even after admitting the mistake failed to reverse the mistake when it could have been easily fixed, again fuelling the hype train. So I think it is now time for you guys to accept some responsibility of this price manipulation.

I guess it would have been better to mark the 1st suggestion as closed and only show the 2nd suggestion as accepted. Or like polar bear mentioned there, consider the 2nd suggestion as counter suggestion to the first, since the price seemed to be 17 keys already at the time the 1st was accepted. Ha ha I love exceptions. But anyhow what's done is done. Now, I would only request moderators to think about backpack.tf's role in community pricing, and do something to curb this hype train. First step towards this could be stop entertaining suggestions with +/- negligible price differences. Just one suggestion from an over ambitious suggester, approved by a conformist moderator and exploited by shrewd traders led to an increase from 16-20 keys within days.

So because the 16-16.5 key suggestion got accepted the price is 20 keys now? If bp.tf would have such a strong influence why didn't people keep selling at 16.5 keys? Why didn't it stop when the price was 17 keys for many hours...

And if we wouldn't want to curb the hype train (possibly) amplified by bp.tf, there would be no cooldown in the first place.

I guess no one was expecting that big jump in such a short time, but it seems the price has been stabilized kinda.

You were the only one, I believe, who did not expect such a huge rise, everyone else did. I like the way when you say so many hours. It feels ironical somehow.

The mods had a long discussion about how to handle this unique situation presented to us. This huge jump in price within 1 DAY is unprecedented for any kind of currency, even keys when they were at the peak of their rise. There is nothing else to call this situation but an exception that has never been seen by the community before. By the time the 16-16.5 suggestion was accepted all 18 key sellers were gone and most 19 key sellers were gone. We then raised the question, do we let the price sit for the 3 days of cooldown and continually misinform people about the buds price? We were off by 2.5 keys, which is preposterous. We ultimately decided as a team we would much rather reflect an accurate price so that sellers who missed the dramatic change wouldn't get picked off as easy prey selling at 16-17 keys only to be resold by these predators camping outpost for 19 keys. This had happened several times to unsuspecting sellers, and as a moderation team, we felt it our responsibility to inform the community of the situation.

There is simply no other way to describe this rise other than a dramatic anomaly. It CANNOT be compared to the buds fall which happened over a month. This rise happened within 1 day and was largely beyond bp.tf's influence.

It seems you missed the main point, so I'll say it again.

A 3 key rise of buds in 1 day is not at all like the rise / fall of any currency we have seen in the last 3 years. Buds were already at 19 keys BEFORE the 17 key (second suggestion) was accepted. This is a complete anomaly. If you can't see that, then we will just have to disagree. But it seems like your mind is set on the matter.

Why are people downvoting you? I've had my buds under 20 in the classifieds for teh last 3 days and I can hardly sell any. Even 19 keys and 2 refined isn't happening.

Everyone wants buds to rise. They had so heavily invested in them they caused a huge spike and now i am proving( IMO the truth) that buds are going down, they are gonna be angry. Notice how not all dislikers comment. I take that as encouragement though >:D, since they could only dislike

Sold one for a 12.5 key item and 8 keys within 30 minutes of putting the trade up. Item overpay makes this fall within the 19-20 range. I've been looking for a while and haven't seen a single 18 key trade since the start of the week. This gets my upvote.

It's more like so many people don't like or know about bazaar as all people use proofs 90% of the time from outpost. Bazaar does have some nice features I wish outpost had at times but it is what it is.

It was at 18 keys before now it's nearly 18.9

It's more that it is surprising that finance is at around 19 flat rather than 19.5 as that would be the median of this suggested price. Either sales are occurring below 19 or not too many sales are at 20 keys recently.

Think they take into account all sales including quicksales as well? (not sure if they take into account unusuals)

I believe finance only keeps track of pure currency transactions, although it could do unusuals quick sells but seems unlikely. Regardless this seems like the hype train came to a stop earlier than anticipated and has stabilized since then. Either that or finance keeps track of all bud transactions, maybe a mod will have more information on the matter

No idea, it really wasnt a hype train tbh buds were kinda overdue for an update since a few weeks ago just some reason people kept selling at 16 keys. It dropped only because of halloween people dump buds for keys to uncrate.

I was selling for around 17 keys pretty easily since last 2 weeks ago (might have been earlier? idk i wasnt flipping buds then) and buying for 16 keys. I reckon it probs hit 20 flat and slow down, then drop around christmas.

I agree saw people selling comfortably at 17 keys on servers time and again. Just think the spike was people trying to inflate the price after they saw it rose, buds going up so fast was unprecedented. Though we can expect them to drop during Christmas for all those festive goodies heh. Maybe a festive shotgun?

Fairly certain tf2finance only takes into account pure trades. I believe it takes into account outliers, but does so on both sides and to a limited extent (only within a few keys on either side, so straight up sharks wouldn't be included).

Take this with a grain of salt, relying on memory here and I'm not affiliated with tf2finance in any way.

I think the problem is that 18 has to be disproven, and all the OP did was prove that 19 and 20 were in the range. We already know that 19 and 20 are in the range.

Personally, I had not voted until now because I didnt know if 18 was still possible. I just got some buds for 18 now, but considering how long it took, it's probably not in the range.

The idea about a suggestion is to prove that range is currently in action.

Find as much proof for 18 as there are for 19 and 20 - then your thesis might have some weight.

Well, what I meant is that people trying and failing to buy at 18 would be what this suggestion should be doing. Everyone knows that 19 and 20 are in the range, it's not up for debate (at least not here. If you think it's up for debate, then you should be on the other suggestion). All the proof in that range is completely irrelevant.

I agree that 18 keys isn't in the range though, but I know this through personal expirience. This suggestion has failed to disprove it, which was pretty much it's only job.

I only agree with it because I spent time on servers watching people failing to buy at 18 keys and because I tried to buy for 18 keys on OP for 3 days before I got a pair of buds. The suggestion itself fails horribly at proving that 18 is not in the range. I'd imagine that the mods were waiting for proof of that to be shown before they accepted it.

Now it's not being accepted because there's a counter-suggestion.

I see buds as more of a currency rather than an actual thing people want. Who would give their extremely rare UNUSUAL or AUSTRALIUM WEAPON for just one of these? There once was a time where 3 buds could get you an unusual, but what happened to those times? What next, the Vintage Fan o'War will be dropped to 1 bud?!

Agreed. They are most likely discussing the matter, but they should at least tell us what's wrong or concerns about the suggestion as well.

This is a tricky suggestion; buds have fluctuated wildly in the last few days, and this is one of those cases where leaving a suggestion up for so long affected its accuracy. After reviewing the proof and counterproof, the mods have concluded that this range is not any more accurate than the current one.

18 is definitely a quicksell, but 20 takes a noticeable effort to sell. The counterproof shows lots of 20s taking days to sell, and several that remain unsold after as many as 5 days. 18 and 20 seem to match each other for sales--buyers at 18 can buy them eventually, and sellers for 20 can sell them eventually, but neither is as easy as 19. Including both outliers is much less ambiguous than only excluding quicksells but not slow sells.

19 flat may be a valid suggestion in the near future, but the previous suggestion for that had insufficient proof to be accepted. The same is true of the 19–19.5 keys suggestion opened shortly afterward. At times like these the mods are very wary of accepting suggestions too quickly and causing a feedback loop, and it looks like the current price is plenty representative of the market.
