i could suggest the same thing,just taking x0.9 instead which would lead to a different price

its not silly. everyone did so over a year ago. people started doing 0.9xmid price. should i've just said the same thing to them like you do to us? no, let people use what they want, when both are valid.

you're right " people started doing 0.9xmid price" - I also do it , but it fomul not work for hight tier unusual and now I use only pure price~lower end , I came to this after many suggestions.
I use this formula - based on their experience, none of the admins (I think so) does not forbid doing it. I advise everyone to do it, if the price of the hat above 8-10 buds.

this is not a rule , its said here http://forums.backpack.tf/index.php?/topic/7-how-to-create-a-good-unusual-price-suggestion/ to use lower than their normal values, but not said which technique must be used. Both are good, the low end one is better with low tier unusuals.

there's no admins in there saying "0.9xmid price is the way to go". its just what they accepted.
I never ( recently ) use formula " pure price~0.9 X average(midle) price" if price range highter then 10 buds . Believe me (I've seen many thousands of trades) is not correctly .

Here is obtained we use unusual overpay 2 times , and price falls artificially .

If the low end was never even allowed then this would be much easier. People can buff there hats way to easily
Sense price range : same unusual may not be sold/bought at the same price : You sold for 2.5 buds I sold for 2.3 buds 2.3-2.5 -price range
