This price is somewhat outdated if you look at it, most of the sellers who are in the crate trading business who still have active trades are selling for more than 1 ref. Outdated trades as well as one-off type sellers are the only ones asking 1 ref or less.
Disclaimer: I own a bunch of these and have a vested interest in the price. That being said, I've already had my price at 1.66-2 ref for a while, and more recently at 2.33 (last 1.66 or below sale was over a month ago). Links to past month of sales:

Only looking at prices that have a bump within the last 3 months (using discretion within that range as well, it's just 3 months is the last price update)
Steam Market prices have for the most part been above $0.30 which is slightly more than a ref is currently worth.
---Buyers:---
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/18047235 -- 1.11 per (Stated below bought 10 in past few days)
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/18142363 -- 0.77 per
I personally am trying to buy at 0.33 per, but if I need to restock, i'll pay 1.00 per.
---People still selling at 1.00 or less:---
http://bazaar.tf/trade/703221 -- bumped withing the last day (no stated price, appears as though 1 scrap per)
http://bazaar.tf/trade/193396 -- bumped 6 days ago (0.66 per crate (says he uses bp.tf but not the most up to date, last post on the trade was 10 months ago)
http://bazaar.tf/trade/557535 -- bumped a week ago (bp.tf price (1.00) cheaper if bulk)
http://bazaar.tf/trade/604593 -- 3 weeks ago, (1.00 looks from the trade to just use bp.tf prices, scottish was sold 2 months ago when price was dif.)
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/8738519 -- 1.00
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/12173013 -- 1.00 sold within the past month
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/18290895 -- 0.66 (sold within past 3 days, no idea how many he initially had)
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/18254873 -- 1.00 (sold out withing 4 days, had 16)
---People Selling for more than 1.00 and less than 2.00:--- (a week ago when I looked, there were more in this intermediate range, can't find them now :( )
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/18352554 -- 1.33
---People selling at 2.00 or more:---
http://bazaar.tf/trade/674373 -- 2.00 per (only 1 left in bp)
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/15444100 -- 2.00 (ignoring his multiple trades all selling #42)
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/17003371 -- 2.00 (made within the last month, so more recent than current price, also look at the offers, 1.33, 1.66, 1.88 (quickbuyer at 0.44))
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/10628763 -- Currently at 2.00 (sold out within the past 6 days, maybe raised after sold out)
Clearly there's a large variation in price. None of the one-off sellers had a high price, most of the crate dealers have higher prices (me included). Given The number of people wiling to sell at 1.00, but also the decent number of sales at 1.66-2.33 ref per, I've put the range to 1-1.66.
Let me know if anything seems astray or whatnot.
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/10628763 -- 2.00 (sold out within the past 6 days)
prove it :u?
edit: where are your 1.66 sales?
edit 2: http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/18142363 -- 0.77 per
I personally am trying to buy at 0.33 per, but if I need to restock, i'll pay 1.00 per.
quickbuyers ^ irrelevant (well not you necessarily now that you're paying 1, but saying you're paying .33 and selling for 7x that amount is kinda bleh)
edit 3: http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/18290895 -- 0.66 (sold within past 3 days, no idea how many he initially had
quickseller, does nothing to prove your point
edit 4: http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/17003371
has he actually sold any :| (no he hasn't just bp'ed him and all 6 are still there as of 7:43 pm 3/3/14 EST)
edit5: http://bazaar.tf/trade/604593 -- 3 weeks ago, (1.00 looks from the trade to just use bp.tf prices, scottish was sold 2 months ago when price was dif.)
couple things, the bit about the Scottish has 0 relevance and so you have a 1ref unsold... this goes towards disproving your suggestion you realize?
Modified the statement after, ty for the heads up.
edit 1: My 1.66 sales were more than a month ago, but has stayed at that or above for multiple months. The disparity between what I have sold for recently and what others have sold for was so large that the range would look a bit odd, 1-2 ref seemed kinda wide although both get you sales.
edit 2/3: Showing what quicksellers/buyers are offering is not good? I figured it was worth having because (for me, full disclosure) if anything, you could get at minimum that value for the crate (a bottom line price, but I guess that's not really what the pricelist here is for, it's to show average value). I see it as, if every price is 50% current, are they all quicksell and the people selling at current nominal have disappeared for the time being, or is the 50% current the true new value. --TLDR, Remove the quicksell/buy except for mine then?
edit 4: Acknowledged but -- also look at the offers, 1.33, 1.66, 1.88 (quickbuyer at 0.44)
edit 5: Scottish has relevance, if he was dealing in crates and maybe paid more attention to prices, he wouldn't put it in same trade as scottish. The scottish there shows he most likely acquired them both and put them for sale for what bp.tf showed was the price. Didn't do any research to see if he could get higher. Using bp.tf price is not the same as saying that's what the market should be at. It's saying you don't know the price and therefore you put what's currently accepted as roughly the market price. People who use bp.tf to price should really be excluded from any price suggestions, but that's close to impossible to weed out. Also, If I don't include links, all people will do is find them and say why didn't i provide it. So I include it.
quicksells don't prove your suggested range .-. now if you prove 1ref (or more :o ) is a quicksell, that'd help :| but what you seem to have is you're buying at 1ref now (with no proof of you being able to quickbuy) and the other guy is paying less than current value
I've been able to buy 10 within a few days at 1.11 ref: http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/18047235
so you're buying above the current range and you get sellers coming to you .-. fascinating....
Thanks for the link, wish outpost would let us put crate number in what we want to buy.

Updated list of personal sales. I don't have the time this week to make an updated price suggestion (thinking around 1.66-2.33, maybe 2-2.33), finals are about to start. But If someone wants to make a better one, let me know when you post it and I'll remove this one.
Selling =/= Sold. Also a lot of these links are completely irrelevent.
Which are irrelevant? Thought I'd weeded out the irrelevant ones
see my comment with the edits and such
Thanks, posted my replies
I feel that these crates are hard to sell for even 1/3 off the value so therefore I could not see them increase value. Nor do you have an ample amount of relevant proof to support your new suggested price.
Could just be me though but. Downvote.
It really depends on what type of quantity you are trying to sell/amount of time. I would agree that if you had to sell 10 in one day, it might be tough unless you find someone who wants to unbox, but that's essentially the case for every item, if you don't find the people who want it then you aren't going to get sales. Find them though, easy sale.
Buyers -
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/18357165 - 1key?
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/18355235 - 1ref
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/18343934 - 1ref
Neutral.
1 key buyer is actually looking for crate #42 offers on the key. He isn't actually selling his key for 1 crate #42.
Not sure how I missed those, I searched for all crate #42 trades. Thanks for finding them though, 3rd link has closed his trade.
frankly your proof convinces me that it should go up, but I don't think you have the range right as most of the solds provided are at 2 and up
I somewhat wanted to put 2.00 flat, but I've been buying somewhat regularly at 1 ref per to keep my stock, that's why i felt 1 ref needed to stay in range and a 1-2 ref range felt quite wrong.
Just sold 12 #42s for a White All-Father. if you look at high end - 4 keys, 2.33/crate.
Painted objects are not valid proof to begin with, and who would pay 4 keys for a white all-father when I can find so many white painted ones for 3 keys?
someone who was careless about pricing cause it's a friend. Probably should have looked into the price more.
so well if we take your claimed added paint value and calculations there, your suggested range is disproven further :u it looks more like it should be 2-2.33
So either way I have gotten the point across that the current price is too low which is what I really wanted to get across.
If we take Eldric's probably more accurate 3 keys, it's 1.75/key which is still higher. wish there was a way to suggest that the price is wrong, without having to suggest a better one, leave that to people who are more experienced.
you could be the one to suggest a better range >_> you have proof for a higher range...
I have bought about 12 crates at the 1 ref price in the past month, and would add to the proof, except than i consider 1 ref to be a quicksell, and would buy anyone's crate 42 at that price, in any quantity
Been doing the same actually, even though it's still listed at 1 ref per, most people who are in the market know to snatch them up at 1 ref per cause it's a deal. I've actually been scouring websites for people selling
So you are buying from 1 and selling from 3? https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Al8xTQvLWC0idGIwN0FlMW5BNjNIT1B4cHBlZmthUEE&usp=sharing#gid=0
Now I am, yup. was 2.33, but kept running out, so i bumped price to 3 ref. (and someone still bought 4 for 1key+5 ref)
This suggestion has been up for a bit now, and given the rush on #42s, it may be that the suggestion range is old now. And I feel 1 ref is quicksell, and still feasible off people who just check bp.tf since the stated price hasn't risen yet.
i think price change is outdated. I'm suggesting close this and open a fresh one with solid proof and accurate range.
agreed :P somewhere with 2 in the range has felt better since that start frankly .-.
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/17731580
This was my listing, I sold over 250 of them for 1.66 (or 5 for a key, which is approx. 1.33 each) I would say this new price is pretty accurate
The crates sold pretty fast too, so, I'll use my personal listing in favor of this

Seems like 1 ref is a quickbuyers price. And comments in proof show 1.66 happens without any issue. Seems like a straightforward decision here.
