Sold for Fountain of Delight Flippin Awesome(not priced)

Current seller

http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/21287843 b/o 6 buds. One week with no offers.

Eww, sold for a pillar of shades? That price is way outdated. They are like 3 last I checked a week ago. My friend had a pair and every 3 bud offer was being snapped up

The range should be like 2.5 -3 based on these 2 sales

I am using the price of it nearest to the accepted price(Accepted on the 1st of july 2014) which is 4-5 buds.

Oh, I gotcha. They were selling for that much back then so I'll switch to green chk.

That logic is off though. Isn't the value of the hat tied to the value of the traded good? If a 1:1 for shades was ok just 40 days ago then the value is the same today.

There are a number of increases/decreases done after recent price changes that weren't the price a month ago. Look at a few of the newer hats that fell in price. Slippery slope if you use "at that time" pricing for a price check in today's value. Hey, buds were only 14-15 keys back then...Or keys were 7 ref back then. Becomes a mess. I'd value the proof in today's cash. Not at the time something was all the rage and traded high.

4 pure makes more sense for that hat and effect but I'm not discounting that its even less. Especially when the only pure offer was a little over 2 and we call it an outlier. I call it probably a true worth when using pure. This hats for hats or items for hat pricing is shit today. You price in pure with some freak multiplier when hats are offered. It doesn't work. Not a 4 bud hat because no one would pay 4 pure....ever. It will be a hat and some keys. You got 1 pure offer and it was over 2 pure. That's not an outlier..........Hats for hats are outliers.

Back when this trade occurred the shades could have been sold for 4 buds. So the seller was obviously valuing them at what they were worth at the time, not what they might be worth in the future. It's stupid to retroactively reduce the price of the hat because the shades dropped. In the same way we shouldn't look at trades that took place a year ago for something like a max head and say it's worth more now because back then it 1:1d with a max head. (Which have increased)

The keys and buds at the time if sale matters as well on higher stuff. I know I personally, as well as many others, adjust their prices based on the conversion rate as it adjusts.

I could argue this all day but get nowhere. Unless this site or any other site can automatically adjust all the prices can be shit. Hats rage all the time. So if you have hat A that is bought with HAT B and HAT C because they are rage does that mean HAT A is still that value after HAT B and HAT C crash like cannonball fever? Answer is no. Hat A was priced out of the park when HAT B & C were way high.

I love the term stupid.....Summer shades used in June during rage value is more proof than a PURE offer later in July as shades wore down.......Again, you got me BP.TF........

                A story....

I like your Erie Crones. 70 buds,,,,,,,

                Yes, epic hat.....Your offer please

I have a Kiss King, Viewfinder and an Exe that total 80 buds....Deal?

                No, I want 70 buds.....

Pure? At $32 a bud that's $2240 in cash. I have hats and I don't mind overpaying 10 buds. You profit mate....$2240 in pixels is an absolute no way. But 80 buds in hats I don't bat an eyelash.

The game is entirely hat pricing. Monopoly money and many of these hats are rotated dozens of times because they all have a time limit of movement. Ask yourself why a top tier and a real GOD tier hat rotate hands more than you respawn in-game. Because everyone understands (except a site using "buds" as pricing) you flip because most don't retain much of their elevated value after the rage and settle back to a much smaller figure.

This is my 2nd decent sized BP. My 1st I cashed out almost 2 years ago. All polycount hats energies and above. I paid a fraction of BP.TF pricing. This time around I picked out hats I really like and in the event for classes I don't play I went with a polycount hat with mid tier effect. I paid half in most instances from what the price here was in pure.

Monopoly figures...Using buds (pure) in pricing is "stupid"...........Pricing should be in "general hat pricing" saying pure says you should roll out with buds to sell the hat. RARELY ever happens.

I'm also not a fan of the collusion issues. Not unlike spreadsheet when you have a few people involved you can get fixing fairly easy. We know votes don't mean anything in terms of acceptance or not even though the site was created on that very principle that the traders could approve moves. But with F2P and alts we know that can't work. but as long as those approving prices are active traders and some very large active traders pricing in pure is suspect. If you went to "average hat pricing" I think that says allot more in terms of true trading value. Buds does not......

This is something we have considered carefully. First, when assessing suggestions, I don't always look at the prices at their nearest suggestion. I look at the prices at the sales that happened nearest to the actual sale. This is not always at the nearest suggestion. I don't have a bookmarked suggestion off-hand to link you atm. But I list out sales all the time with exact dates showing what sales happened closest to the sale in question in the suggestion to derive its value at the time.

As for why we even bother:

Let's say someone sold a hat for a bmoc when they were 20 keys and sold the bmoc for 20 keys pure the next day. Would you price the hat at 10 keys 4 weeks later when bmocs dropped? No, you wouldn't. The trade was valued at 20 keys and it should be taken as that.

Similarly, here's something I see every day. A first gen unusual - let's say a burning dappers - sells for a disco menco when mencos were selling for 8 in pure. Now the menco can't even sell for 6. You wouldn't go back and price the dappers at 6. Old effects don't trend down with new ones so you cannot assume that the burning dappers trended down with the menco and is reflected in the current price.

I emphasize this a lot, especially on high tier suggestions. New effects / items are moving targets. It is very difficult to figure out their value at the time of the trade. These should be avoided if possible. But sometimes there just aren't many sales for a hat because the buyer / seller gap is too large and you have to narrow it with a conservative drop. That's what is happening here.
