magenta says
"Doesn't matter if sole mate wasn't outdated at the time, it's outdated now, when you're pricing the hat. If the system worked how you're proposing we'd never need to update unusuals ever." i do not understand the first statement or the connection to the second statement.
The Sole Mate is outdated.
Cheat Sheet:
Hats with an outdated price (>3 months old) are not valid proof. Again, please include links for outdated hats in your suggestion as supplemental proof. Just don't rely on them to set your range.
I never knew polipolop had this o_o shes lucky
the sole mate being outdated means you can't assume the value is still 23. you should provide a mini-suggestion within this suggestion. dig around for some sales and offers to base an estimated value on, and use that rather than the outdated price. if there's nothing but the price to use, say so, but that's usually unlikely.
also the waxy didn't quicksell for 6, since it took 2 weeks to go. judging from his backpack it didn't sell for 6 pure either unless he spent it on a blizz tossle and also cashed out the rest in 2 days, cause the trade finished on the 18th and this is his bp on the 20th: http://backpack.tf/profiles/76561198080562434?time=1411196400
you should ask sellers to find what it actually sold for; or find some other sales.
also your 5 pure guy is admitting in the notes that he should have taken 4 pure... who read that and thought; i'll pay 5? wheres the proof it sold for 5?
ya that's why i took the GBH at 6
and the sole mate wasn't outdated at the time of trade which is why i am almost positive magenta is wrong(his second statement makes absolutely no sense in any context) and he is just misapplying a rule
you took it at 6 without proof it sold for 6, and also no proof that it sold for 5, and also what amounts to an implied buyout of 4 or less?
also, you're suggesting now, not then. you will be estimating the value of this hat currently, so the prices you use should be up to date, or at least estimated values based on up to date sales and other info. do you see what i mean?
his second statement really just means that there would be less pricing necessary if we could say "well this unusual was in date at the time of the trade", because then the price wouldn't be updated. this rule not only improves the valuation you make by making it rely upon current or at least recent values, it also encourages more updating for other hats.
"also, you're suggesting now, not then. you will be estimating the value of this hat currently, so the prices you use should be up to date, or at least estimated values based on up to date sales and other info. do you see what i mean?"
I do see what you mean. If, a week after the trade, the Sunbeams sole mate became an all class misc and went up in value to 140 buds, would you believe that the ghosts gibus is now worth ~140 buds, too?
If I am wrong polar, cashew, or whoever else is a price mod are going to be the only person I believe because the arguments you two are making are fundamentally wrong.
there are exceptions to the rule of course; for example my arcana tyrants sold once for 2 dbd hat of cards, which were worth significantly more at the time than they were by the time of the suggestion, and a mod overruled. i understand your point, it feels like if it was an up to date value when traded, then that should represent the value of this hat now.
i think the main reason for this is that when 3rd gens dropping and currency changes caused significant market distortion, people had to use the original price values for a hat that was out of date. if it was priced 6 months ago at 3, it might have since inflated to 3.5, but in reality gone down in value to 2.5. the suggester could just use 3 and that would be apparently fine since that price was the originally intended one and may or may not have been in date at the time.
considering your sale is obviously in a valid time frame you could even try to give a snapshot of the sole mate's value during that time frame, and it might still come out as 23.
http://backpack.tf/vote/id/5421c708b88d889e438b45ce - has been a recent sale on the sole mate that probably comes close to the current value of 23. Value on that is probably close enough.
Also offered the burning stash which is close to this after overpay. Seems fine.
