Ok so if paint can be used as "proof", why not spells? They both modify the item in a certain way and they add value to the item. So here are two links for if you just want to see.

Yes I know why paint/spells shouldn't be used as proof, and this comment shouldn't be taken seriously, unless it helps. My posting of this comment is to prove a point. See the comments below for context.

Prices we list are for unmodified items ONLY.

"The Steam Community Market is great for buying items convieniently. However, the 15% fee on each sale means that item prices on the SCM are almost always inflated to compensate. Therefore, please do not use SCM prices as evidence."

Steam market prices generally are not reliable proof; Steam wallet funds are worth less than paypal funds.

Others using it as counter proof is like me using it as proof.

look for context below in comments

I'm just trying to follow each of the rules and make a good suggestion. Maybe the links above need to have their content updated to accommodate new normals or go deeper in depth. For now I follow the details in the links above fully. Maybe if it said yes you can use painted items to drop a price or have more description, instead of the we price unmodified items, then maybe I would accept the paint thing.

yes i know that it is suggestions on how to make a good suggestion, but this website has links to them and tells you to reference them, to follow them, to help lead you to making a suggestion that might get accepted.

    http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/23055149 1 key 2 ref

    http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/23071408 Bp.tf current price. (Young)

http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/22760343 Painted ones unsold for 2 keys, one even being Black paint.

http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/22323212 Unsold at 1.8 keys for over a month, not recently bumped but still.

http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/22352308 Unsold for over a month at 2 keys.

http://steamcommunity.com/market/listings/440/Haunted%20Haunted%20Hat Over two pages for less than 2 keys available.

      1. painted

      2. painted

      3. painted

      4. Horribly bumped, last bump was 5 days ago.

      5. poorly bumped/ backpack is set to private, can't check if he did actually sell, or didn't. That is why it is still included under selling.

      6. Steam Community Market is not a valid source of evidence because of steam fees. Also, the prices on the market are always very different than the backpack.tf prices. Look at every item in your backpack, and look at the SCM prices, they are very different from the actual price of the item.

I am making a suggestion for the unmodified version of this item. I did not include any paints or spells in this suggestion.

Painteds are valid if under your suggestion range. And though 5 days unbumped, selling for well over a month. Either way there's alot of counter-proof.

if you can count painted ones as proof can I count spell items as proof? If you think about it they both modify the item to give it different properties. Just using your own logic here.

SCM can be a valid supporting piece of proof if proof is limited.

You might need a little refresher.

Really? I have seen suggestions that have used SCM as SUPPORTING proof. You may make suggestions but I have seen alot more and have a fair amount of knowledge.

I'm just trying to follow the rules. If this is infact true the rules at the link need to be modified to accommodate this. Do you have proof for your statement?

                    More refreshing.

you are solely relying on the SCM as counter proof. Counter proof needs to be as solid as Proof and based on what is posted in the two links which i have provided in this comment thread it does not seem like you can or should use it.

as evidence you have it right, but shadrok has it right. you can support/ sorta counter suggestions with the SCM

                    here's a recent example http://backpack.tf/vote/id/5421a22cb98d889d6b8b45c9

I wouldn't say that is a very good example. The suggester is very lazy. He had a poor argument with definitely not enough proof. but besides that the SCM like it is for proof is not a valid form of counter proof. support... arguable, only solid proof/counter proof. No.

nvm too tired, didn't read properly

it's fine. The same thing happens to me when I'm tired.

Just saying that I bought the first haunted hat from the dude for exactly a key and 2 ref. Not entirely sure about this suggestion, but will stay neutral until more proof is stated. Gl with the suggestion spybug :)

Which guy and when? can you show screen shots? or a trade link? Thanks

Check the history, the 2 he "sold" are still in his bp

actually if im right, he might have sold those 2, they're level 51 and 57.

                The other 4 he has are level 1, 18, 49 and 91

tho the item history isnt updated

yes you would be right. He had an inventory of 4 a few days ago. He sold 2 of them, and bought a level 1 for himself. Check the notes of the trade.

Look at his backpack @ http://steamcommunity.com/id/imsorryrumham/inventory/

This proof is clearly INVALID. All four hats are in place which leads that "no sales actually occured". Downvote.

only 2 of them match levels in his trade. meaning he bought a few more. for what price? we don't know.

It also seems his "proof" was selected like "cherry".

                  1 key 2 refs (sold!)

                  http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/23055149

Guy offers to sell @ backpack.tf prices hours ago.... With his single sale, this is enough to counter his suggestion as invalid.

Cherry picking... no, put in search to not include painted hats, yes.

Can you please refer to my rant directly below my trade? maybe you can help me out and answer some of my comments. Thanks :D

I would just argue that there is no enough evidence to put this @ your mentioned 2 keys price range. It could range from 1key< but certainly not two keys. You need to provide more actual sold's of your suggested range to be able to rise price. Regards.

I don't know, i mean I saw a trade that had only one link to one sold and it got accepted with a really high %. And another time when I had extremely good counter proof, the mods missed it or ignored it because the price was accepted, then in my suggestion people were complaining that the range should be brought back.

Just wondering, based on my proof wouldn't those two trades which you have provided be called quick-sells? considering both of them are very young and not asking for a lot because its painted?

It is possible to actually remove any paint in-game. Because of this, I don't see particular reason to call them as "less worth". Paints are not free. There is no way they degrade value because it's presence.

I have to agree, in addition, one can restore any hat to remove the paint, making them equal, if not more, than the unpainted variety.

http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/23079850 Few here for 1.5 keys, still a bit young.

http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/23090321 Still unsold for bp.tf price +50% of paint price which would be less than 1.5 keys.

And SCM now has alot more under 1 key each in terms of funds. http://imgur.com/QFeEk9Q 2 keys is clearly an outlier.
