I think the reason behind the constant drop of price is that there are too many supply of bill's hat. U can see there are about 170000 bill's hat exist in tf2. How can the price not drop

It's not main reason however. The price is dropping because Valve has allowed Bills to be sold on the Steam Market.

It's a shame because Bill's was sort of a currency. We need another item that will bridge the gap between keys and buds.

Buds are already dropping like this as well. It's time to staple all prices in refined metal.

But that's a bit impractical. Surely it simplifies things a bit, but I really don't want to see unusuals with a three-digit price tag of refined. Having in-betweener currencies makes prices a bit more neat and up for discussion.

That was KIND OF a joke, but honestly there isn't a more stable currency that we can price things with. Buds have lost almost 25% of their value (21->16 keys), Bills have lost almost 20% of their value (6->5 keys), and keys have gained a little less than 25% of their value (7.33->9 ref), all within a few months' time. Also, any item worth more than 7 buds now would have a price with 4 figures in ref :P

I think keys have stayed about the same relative to real world currency, its the ref that is losing value in comparision.

Maybe we can stat using other promotional items such as Max Severed Head, B.M.O.C, or etc?

Don't see Max decreasing often for me, so may be practical as a form of a currency.

B.M.O.C seems Unstable though, so it might be impractical. And if you were to pay about 78,950 ref for a Burning TC, there won't be enough space anyway, so it does seem impractical..

Literally saw someone selling a Value of Teamwork Bills for 4 keys on a trade server. Rest in pizza bills :((((((( Upboat because proof is supporting prices under 5 keys

5 keys is stable. Those selling at 4 ebev 1 scrap are obviously quickselling.

Well go ahead, make your own suggestion and find some 5 key sales.

What's interesting is that none of these items are actually "dropping" in price. That's the scary bit. What actually happened was keys INCREASED in price, and anything even slightly related to them tanked like crazy. Keys were a little over a euro/a bit more over a dollar around a year ago, but with the addition of the Steam Community Market and a few other factors, they're very very close to the stated price now. If a key was $1.25, shall we say, and now they're $2.40 (ish), then that's about a doubling in price. If a Bill's was up around the 9-10 key region before, and now it's dropping to the 4-5 region, that's not a true drop in price, it's a drop in relative price. There's no reason to freak out, it's just that some items were artificially inflated and now they're settling back down. Upvote! Fantastic proof.

Edit: I'd love to hear from some other people to see if they agree with me! It's mostly personal conjecture on my part, but the data seems to hold when you test it on a number of items.

There's no way they would ever, EVER do that. Keys are far and away their most profitable source of income from TF2 historically, with the possible current rivalry with Tour of Duty tickets, which I doubt.

Yeah, it probably would affect the price of keys, but honestly, the addition of the Community Market introduced a LOT more players to tf2, and therefore increased the traffic for everyone's basic sales. The rise in key price is a good thing for TF2 traders and the game in general; all it means is that more people are interested in the items.

And more money for Gaben or Volvo.

But anyway, I agree with you Zarvon. We can only see what happens when keys drop back into their old range (2 to 2.33 ref).

What caused the crazy key inflation in the first place?

Like I said, from what I can tell, it was simply an increase in demand; I've talked to some of the bulk key traders at the time (most have retired now since ref isn't very profitable to own and people are mostly buying keys anyway), and they have said that they just couldn't keep keys in stock. Eventually, we'll hit a price that's high enough that keys will be sold at a moderate pace for ref, and that will become the new normal. We certainly haven't reached that limit yet.

Guess we can wait and see what happens when keys go back to their 6-8 ref range. It's seems like its happening to every item, the higher the key, the lower the price in metal, just look at buds! They were at 18 keys and drop to around 16 keys.

Yeah I would have to agree with you that the bill's hat does need a drop in price. It's not highly in demand lately, also considering the SCM value for this hat is $10 even with some 1-2 key paints on it. Up-voted.
