is this a stretch? idk
Also for my sanity, I will be ignoring every stupid and irrelevant comment.
will be adding more soon. additional proof is appreciated also.
Not for changes of .33 or greater.
Can someone explain to me why keys are fluctuating so rapidly? Iv'e ever seen keys go up and down like this, ever
well, they dropped once, everyones now panicking, and trying to get rid of them for ref so they can rebuy later.
Seems fair enough, thanks.
A post can have 99% votes, mods dont have to accept it for "community's vote".
If the proof isn't there then they can choose to not accept it.
yep.
They flew too high, too fast. And now they're crashing down.
when people mass buy keys from the market during holidays and valve adds a one week no trade period, after the week ends, we have a mass amount of sellable keys, more than buyers. Then prices go down. Its a system of supply and demand. The supply and demand was consistent during the steam winter sale, however, during the sale, many keys were bought. Increasing the supply while not reaching the demand because of a one week grace period. Finally, when the supply can be open to the demand, there isn't enough demand, so the supply has to slash prices to keep up with demand.
pretty much this
Keys value have, IMHO, been at around 10 refs for about 4 weeks, or so. This was not reflected on key market where traders are against giant traders.
XMAS COMES.
>DISCOUNTS ARE COMING
>Traders Need Cash to buy games for cheap and sell for higher when discounts are over.
>Traders Sell keys on SCM.......................................>Traders Convert everything into keys. Items and stuff.
>Traders get cash and buy discounted games.........>Demand for keys increases
............................................................................,,,,,.>Price increases as demand increases
Buying SOME games for keys is CHEAPER than buying for $
>Customers want keys to buy games for keys.
>Demand for key rises
Now. Xmas passed. A REASON for them to go UP disappeared. Now it's just returning back.
More proof, just sold 7 for 70 ref, http://puu.sh/e2l8n/1a557024df.png

Good Proof, Upboat.
previous accepted suggestions has no effect on the whether they are right or not. I regularly comment on suggestions and give feedback, only got 2 accepted suggestions tho.
Well I believe this is the biggest crash in TF2 history, and it's still crashing. SAVE YOURSELFS FOOLS.
I'll upboat.
Great proof.
Especially because my outpost trade is in there somewhere ;)

The keys to 11 ref or above didn't get any trade within at least 3 hours. And at this time keys are just falling down so much per an hour it's getting outdated pretty soon. Don't get me wrong but trying to make suggestions on keys is a horrible idea now... If you post the prices of the keys at this point it's not guaranteed your price is +/- 2 ref after an hour...
then when ref starts to rise, you don't have to worry
I'm not sure that keys falling means that ref will rise. The amount of ref in the economy hasn't decreased and is still getting larger principally thanks to ref farming etc. That inflation is still a long term structural trend in this economy.
if ref doesn't rise, and keys keep falling, we'll have 1 dollar keys.
Wooden is right, as it's only ever the value of ref that changes, never keys. Keys have been VERY stable for years, and will remain that way for years to come. It's simply that the value of ref changes, so the amount of ref each key costs is then based on that.
Well, yes and no. Yes in a very general sense, in the sense that keys cannot be farmed and are limited in their supply in the economy by the fact they are tied to a real-world transfer of currency into this virtual currency/tool. Ref of course is meant to be chewed up in crafting but in practice floats around in ever larger amounts. Hence keys get priced in more ref as ref loses relative purchasing power.
However, what we're seeing here is the influx of keys after christmas, meaning that perhaps the ratio of keys to ref has been altered to the point where the average key commands less ref than before. This will change as keys are destroyed via unboxing, which remains potentially profitable (if risky). This current crash feels like panic selling, I think we'll see stabilisation and then rising from there until xmas next year, or maybe after halloween.
bought 3 keys for 30 refined http://puu.sh/e2c4x/56d061b488.png
Well, looks like there's a lot of keys available for under 13 ref, so that is out, and the most common sellers under 13 appears to be 12. Looks good to me, upvote.
i same 20 people selling at 7 ref, bought em all and sold them keys for 8-9 ref
xD
profit
More proof.
Sellers under 13 ref (supporting why it shouldn't be 13 instead of 12):
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/24451519 12.33 ref
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/24310503 10 ref
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/24451494 12 ref
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/24451103 12 ref
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/24451599 2 keys for 18 ref (that's 9 ref each, lol)
no shit, you are like the 3rd person, you see when thsi is created? over an hour ago, I can't remove it
removed it, didn't see the time created
enough proof i would say c: upvote
and i just bought 2 keys yesterday.. can someone please explain what exactly is happening?
panickers
panic about what? 17 was a really good insta-sell, hell, thousands of people added me and spammed with trade offers when i sold 1 for 17.33, oh well.. rip
Plenty of people who are advertising low key prices aren't actually selling them; they're just trying to manipulate the price.
Edit: like your very first link. Stuff like that seems banworthy to me, and makes it difficult to take this suggestion seriously. They're all panic sellers and price manipulators.
no, plenty of people are not doing that. a few maybe, but not as many as you think.
I bought a few keys yesterday and a few keys today. Even yesterday at 14-15 ref, I had to add two sellers for every 1 key, because around half of them were just attempting to manipulate the price and had no intention of selling me anything. And the very first link I checked from your suggestion is also someone who is attempting to manipulate key prices.
Now on what basis are you saying that there aren't many manipulators?
I didn't say there weren't any, but I'm not saying that there isn't any in my proof. I doubt that there as at the suggested range. Stop being paranoid, the government isn't corrupt, you can go outside and ride your bike.
"I didn't say there weren't any, but I'm not saying that there isn't any in my proof. I doubt that there as at the suggested range."
Is your strategy to create confusion so that you don't have to answer questions?
You don't need plenty to manipulate here. I was there today when keys literally jumped from 13 to 12 ref in classified listings, because about 6 people listed their keys at 12. There are a total of 2 listings between 12 and 13 ref, and those two came to life after this.
6 people was enough for people panic selling to see the visual representation of the key price on the stats page, and it was telling them: "Half the listings are at 12 ref already, better list it at 12 or even lower too, else I'll never sell my keys before it's too late"
Perhaps backpack.tf doesn't want to be influental, but it is so very much.
Works in the real world that way sometimes too, some big corporations like walmart sell cheaper than other business so they sell their shit. Some places will match other people selling cheaper than them. Some businesses will sell slightly less than everyone elses so their shit sells. It's not a horrible thing that people are doing the same thing with keys.
The panic is real!

Does the Price at Scrap.tf have any influence buying for 12.22 ref selling for 12.66 ref
It proves the price shouldn't be 13 flat because scrap.tf currently has 66 keys meaning people are still selling their keys to them. It doesn't disprove 12 because of the sheer about of 12 sellers still out there. So yeah it does.

lmao
unsolds at 14?
I wonder if they'll make it back to 7 ref
if ref adjusts soon, I don't see why it couldn't.
Who knows.
oh
Wat
12 ref? I don't think so. look at bp classified. 0 at 12 ref currently
I have been buying them for 12 REF pretty easily today.
Below 12 ref are quicksolds.
Most of your 12 ref sellers have either sold their keys fast, or raised the price to 13-13.33 ref.
I'm gonna have to downvote this.
Indeed, just checked outpost, no sellers below 12.66 (most common price is is between 13-14).
Upvote for the comment, downvote for the suggestion.
