A grenadier is a soldier who specializes in handling grenades and other explosives. Grenadiers were also a common rank in the German army in the Second World War and the Patrol Cap was common military headgear for Germany at that time.

The adds were on the Grenadier's side, so you should be subtracting 6, not adding 6.
