http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/26250138 - sold for Scorching Pugilist (30, based on a pure sale and a seller, not applying overpay)

--

Can't track any other sales, seems to have traded backpacks rather oddly. This should do.

shouldn't you be applying overpay anyways, regardless of what it was priced with?

I wouldn't value it less than what it sells for in pure, considering these values are to show what these items sell for in pure.

which is what you're supposed to do for minis, however it's a different story for suggestions. Imagine having to look at each suggestion for the hats you're using and seeing if there are pure sales, it would be really inconvenient, as well as bp price is always supposed to represent the pure price, so overpay should be applied since the pugilist guy should pay more for the copper since he wants it, or whatever the reasoning behind overpay is, I forget

I always check each suggestion for any unusual involved in a sale I'm dealing with. It's really not that much hassle, it's just routine.

Regarding my reasoning behind overpay (which is explained in a post in the unusual suggestion guide thread: http://forums.backpack.tf/index.php?/topic/6033-guide-for-unusual-price-suggestions/?p=335052 ) I believe that a pure sale at 30 for a duped scorching pugilist is convincing enough to not account for overpay.

I've also had many suggestions accepted using this logic (here are a few, all of which in different circumstances:)

I believe I've made a justified decision for not applying overpay here. If you still don't agree, then feel free to counter-suggest.

those were all different circumstances, only once in those 3 did you not apply overpay because a hat was priced using a pure sale, and it was so minor you would have rounded it anyways. The forum post states that with reasonable evidence, like offers of 30 pure or fast sales at 30 pure, that a suggester can use his/her judgement. However, every suggested price shows what is supposed to be the pure value of a hat, so a hat that sold for a 33 key unusual and got priced at 30 has the same pure value as a hat that sold for 30 pure.

I'm going to counter, not because I disagree with you, because I've had this discussion a few times before and the mods never gave an answer

^I think you might both find the last comment in this suggestion useful. It provided me with some clarity at least.

thanks, it seems like it's up for interpretation, I'm just looking for a more definitive answer from the mods

Unfortunately, we can't make hard and fast rules about things like this. Every situation is different. Consider all the circumstances here. The seller of the hard top never had an outpost trade. Almost always this means that he was the one who offered it on the pug.

As Marty indicates above, the point of overpay is to determine the pure equivalent value on a hat. If a hat sells in a day at 30 keys in pure, it probably shouldn't get valued at less than 30. If it takes a week to sell for 30 keys, then it probably shouldn't be considered a pure equivalent. This doesn't matter if there was a previously accepted suggestion or not. Now, we can't make suggesters look at previous suggestions. This sort of debate is a higher order one that we leave for experienced suggesters, and we leave decisions like these to the experienced suggester. For everyone else, applying overpay is just the easy way (though not always the right way) to do things.

That's verbose. To make it simple, when in doubt, apply overpay. If no overpay is applied, you must provide justification. It's at the discretion of the suggester and the moderator assessing the suggestion whether the justification is appropriate.
