So i was just browsing backpack prices when i saw that my tossle cap's value had suddenly dropped. Upon closer inspection it was my own trade was used to drop the price below what I had bought it for.

I'm just going to paste randy's suggestion down here and point out the errors

Ah, my mistake then, nobody told me we switched the pricing to accept opinions in suggestions...

a hat is not worth more than it would take to buy it in pure. therefore its value is capped by the buyout of 40, even when someone overpays that buyout. the overpay metric here is arbitrary to some extent, different people want different amounts of overpay, and this helps neaten things out.
