Valve allowed them on the SCM. Hundreds of people trying to sell their earbuds at lower than the current market seller by 1 cent,which caused them to drop subsequently.

The main reason the were so 'expensive' at first is because they kept inflating due to being a popular item to value higher tiered unusuals with back in the day that you could only trade 8 slots worth of items. They arent cheap now, they were always way more in value than they should actually be. Also, when steam dropped the SCM on TF2 items, nearly everything dropped due to f2p-player being able to mass-dump these things on the SCM.

I can probably google that, but rather focus on the suggestion.
