I fully expect this suggestion to be disregarded because it's SCM or whatever, but how else are you going to price 1 of 1 stuff?
SCM can be used to price hats. However, the question is as to whether or not he will resell it
I think it's impossible to predict what a buyer will do, especially one crazy enough to pay 80usd for a virtual hat
It would amaze you of how a reskin like a G. Frying Pan is worth 2500 bucks that people are willing to pay.
People can pay more than you think for pixels.
I guess you have not seen the Burning Flames Killer Exclusive that sold for 6000 keys, that is more than 10000 usd.

People will pay money for things they like. This is a fact.
People like burning killer exclusives. This is also a fact.
Given this, it stands to reason that people will pay money for a burning killer exclusive. The only difference between this and a key or something is the amount of money exchanged.
In the same vein, I could blow $10k on a superbowl ticket for myself and a friend. Would that be crazy? If I like football, then no.
If I like tf2 and I have $10k to spend, it's not crazy at all to spend the money on the game. I end up with a hat I like, and the other person ends up $10k richer. It works out for everyone.
Well if you know people that can just toss around 10k for bits of data that could evaporate any second, send some my way to buy the rest of my hats

And you're welcome to talk to bobsplosion if you think any of those people are charities, though to make another comparison, I'm not about to share my $5000 superbowl tickets with someone I don't even know.
Let's do some math.
80.01 / 2.49 = 32.13
80.01 / 1.15 / 2.49 = 27.94
With some rounding, this comes to 28-32 - should be good :D
Using SCM isn't a problem. But in cases like this, we prefer to wait a month to see if it sells again because 2 sales give a better indicator of value than 1. If in a few weeks, the person still doesn't have it listed it probably won't be resold any time soon and it's fine to price off what we have.
It would be cool if the rules had things like this in them

"Any hat can be priced based on a single sale if ALL these criteria are met:
- There are no other recent sales in the last 3 months
- The effect is not a summer 2013 effect. (robo effects can be used as they are often rarely traded and rarely unboxed)
- The hat went to a collector or person who intends to keep the hat. A collector can be identified by looking at the person's trade history, item history of similar unusuals in the backpack OR if the owner has not resold the hat 1 month after the sale occurred."
