Resuggestion : thanks polar
2 Exist one of them finally sold on marketplace.tf for 1399.99 $
http://backpack.tf/item/918073315
https://marketplace.tf/itemstats?sku=590;5;u14
https://marketplace.tf/items/590;5;u14/Scorching%20Flames%20Brainiac%20Hairpiece (sku proof of sale )
Key price is 2.1 $ at Marketplace.tf
1399.99 / 2.1 = 666.6 Rounding to 667
Marketplace take 10 %
1399.99 * 0.9 = 1259.99
1259.99 / 2.1 =599.99 rounding to 600 keys
It makes no sense that if I buy a hat off a non-bp.tf related site for $600.00 with real money, that it should be priced based on what that site values keys at, not the price that backpack.tf acknowledges keys to sell for RWC, which is $1.80..
In that case, why don't I just go put $10,000 in my marketplace wallet from Paypal, buy 10 hats, suggest them all valuing keys at 2.10, then resell them for the same amount in Paypal and raise the price on backpack substantially and artificially?
good idea brb

Except if people know that Keys are different values on different sites (SCM and PayPal for example, which people do know), then they wouldn't pay the same on different sites.
Many don't want to risk the possible mishaps that can occur with buying keys directly; some don't even know you can. The point is, this suggestion is pricing an item for what it was bought with, with real money. Whether that website sells keys for $2.10 or not, it is accepted that keys are worth $1.80 each.
I'd also like to mention OP Skins has keys for 1.84 - 1.86 before taxes.
I go to buy a $3000 hat on marketplace, I find the owner and say ayy lmao 2x why don't you just put it up on opskins so the backpack price will be higher! Then, instead of my hat being 1430 keys from marketplace, it will be 1620 from opskins, which is still low cause it should be 1670!
Two things in my response here.
For one, this is no different from buying items on SCM. Keys sell for 2.50 there and SCM purchases when converted to keys always use the 2.50 conversion rate. You wouldn't buy an item on SCM and then convert at the paypal rate of 1.80 to get the item's value in keys would you?
Second, both the SCM and marketplace conversion values for keys are higher than the paypal rate because they factor in a certain value for the security for trading there. People buy keys from SCM or the Mann Co store at 2.50 because they are absolutely safe. 2.10 on marketplace because it's not quite buying straight from Valve, but probably more safe than buying from a single trader on outpost. 1.80 is the actual key value. When we are determining values on items, we are looking for their INTRINSIC value. The 17% higher rate on marketplace is not part of the hat's intrinsic value and should not be factored in.
Put it most simply, what we are trying to say here is that if Andrew, who sold this for 1399.99 was offered 600 pure keys for his brainiac, he would have taken it. That's why the low end here is 600.
