I think he simply did not understand what you meant; you said he needed a range, and he probably read that you cannot have a range with a single sale elsewhere.

I presume that he - not knowing that this situation was an exception to that rule - replied by telling you it would probably be the only sale (indicating that under normal circumstances he wouldnt need a range)
