Sale 2 had a B/O of 35 keys
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/29697184
I closed that trade, and listed it on marketplace.tf for $80 on June 28th. Then it sold 8 days later. I can prove I traded it to marketplace.tf and that I closed the trade. Think I should still cap it at 35 even though it sold for 40 keys and the trade was closed?
Well, you were willing to take 35 keys pure for it. Marketplace/SCM sales can be capped at a B/O due to the fact that there are fees involved.
I was willing to take 35, but because the trade was closed before I listed it on marketplace.tf, the buyer wouldn't have known. The buyer was willing to pay 40 keys.
We are after the pure key values of hats: you were willing to take 35 for it, and after fees you got really close to that amount. Makes sense to value the hat at 35 in this case.
I see, what about the darkblze black watch? It was priced at the price the buyer paid, not the amount the seller received. If my buyer didn't know about the trade I closed 8 days earlier, wouldn't the kabuto be worth 40 keys to the buyer?
I didn't handle that, but if there isn't a traceable Outpost or classifieds B/O then it's fine to price it at what the buyer paid.
Whether the buyer knew that the B/O was lower or not doesn't really matter in this particular case. The hat was listed at 35 keys and you sold it for close to that amount after fees, which means that the hat shouldn't be valued above 35. That's the most accurate pure key value we can get out of a sale that didn't have keys involved.
Ok thank you for explaining this to me, I will close this and resuggest at 35 keys.
