It's been five years, and these crates have definitely risen in refined metal.
Marketplace.tf Proof
Proof in Marketplace.tf. In the past week about 40 have sold, each for a minimum of 2 ref. A few days past that, they sold below 2 ref, so 1.33-2 ref is fair.
1.33 from a baseline of 5 cents (1 ref = 4 cents, divided by 3 roughly equals 1 cent). I used 5 cents as a base as some sold in early July for that amount.
1 ref would be too low as a base because the sales for that amount and below are anomalies. The average price for the crates goes a couple cents over $0.04.
just link the mptf page, don't screenshot it. and should actually show the math
1 ref = $0.04, find your sales and divide them all by 0.04 to get the price in ref, still curious where you got 1.33 ref from
where does 1.33 ref come from?
https://steamcommunity.com/market/listings/440/Mann%20Co.%20Supply%20Crate%20Series%20%2328 - lots of sales on scm as well, quite a number of sellers below 2 ref here making that look a bit high here
There's a ton of buy orders at 6-9 cents however so it balances out well.
Besides, since August 14th a majority of the sales were 6 cents or above. Since then, only a few sales have crawled under 6 cents.
i would suggest analysing both marketplace and scm sales here and then deciding on a range here as at the moment, your low-end is coming from nowhere since there have been no recent sales at $0.05 on marketplace which is what you are solely basing this on atm
