Random Fact #86: British Surgeon Robert Liston remains the only surgeon who has a 300% mortality rate. In his most famous case, he "amputated a patient's leg in 2 and a half mins, which later died of gangrene, in addition he amputated the fingers of his young assistant, who later died of gangrene, and slashed through the coat of a surgical spectator, who later died of shock." However, this case is considered dubious and there are no primary sources confirming that this actually happened.
