England #304: As Richard came of age, Richard made Michael de la Pole chancellor in 1383 for his efforts to arrange politically significant marriages, as well as winning over the King's confidence, he was created him Earl of Suffolk two years later, this antagonised the more established nobility. Another of the King's favourite was Robert de Vere, Earl of Oxford, who raced through the ranks and became Duke of Ireland, which made the nobility jealous.
